Since I heard him with the Allmans in 97 I've loved Jack totally. Here's one more reason. He is one of the underdiscovered treasures of the music world. An amazing combination of bluesy soul and jazzy sophistication with some of the best tone anywhere. As noted before, he could play through a toaster and sound fabulous.
I saw Jack at the Dallas International Guitar Festival in April '11. He was there all weekend. Once when they had several "name brand" guitarists on the stage at the same time (All Star Jam), everyone was trying to out-do the last guy when it was their turn to play. When Jack took his turn he played about 12 or 14 notes and everyone on the stage just smiled and shook their heads as if to say "that was awesome" Greg Martin - the Kentucky Head Hunters just stopped playing and clapped his hands.
I am deeply concerned over the mental health of the people representing the five down votes here. Good grief people! Jack Pearson is just a beautiful, beautiful musician. Absolutely stunning.

Such excellence is unparalleled not only does jack have the best tone with the double hotrail pick ups, can exhibit world class blues that is on the top shelf. But nobody else can savor the refrain , taste what the music asks . Totally virtuoso type musical talent but clearly schooled in classical /jazz theorem , he could blaze the frets from end to end with unrelenting fury , yet he has invested his most serious practice into smoothness of execution and of transitioning efficiently and obviously this kind of practice has paid off magnifold ,in not only technical prowess but the combination of serious discipline and being relaxed and at peace has in my humble opinion granted vision /perspective (musically speaking) that I otherwise would not expect from sheer discipline alone
When i lived in Nashville we saw jack every time he played at 3rd and Lindsley. Phenomenal player. Also, as far as the VVT amp goes, i agree. it sounds amazing. Although half of that tone is in his dna. All fingers baby.

Just that first minute alone is ridiculous. A perfect blend of classic, sweet sounding blues mixed with enough jazzy / technical licks to let you know this guy is the real deal. Interesting phrasing as well. A true guitar players guitar player.

It's hard to be inspired and be taken back to when I was a kid and purely loved guitar. The last time I was truly taken over by pure guitar was SRV.His music does the same thing for me.I love his playing.

I'm sure he put in the time, but he's just super talented and inspired. Yes he has good gear, but he could play any old axe and make it ooze just like he does here!

This will be a jazz performance with Hammond and drums. Jack will play originals and standards from the American Jazz Songbook. You ain't seen or heard it swing like this before, unless you're older than 75 and lived in New York in the 50s and 60s.

You saw him play a $91 guitar through a Blues Junior amp with only a tuner, a tube screamer for slide compression and a flanger (which he never used on the show). You are now a member of the club, congratulations.

@jf99151 Well, the VVT amp sounds great. But he's got an old Yamaha 50 watt amp that sounds great. Last night he played through a stock DeLuxe and later a Twin and they sounded great. He could plug into a toaster oven and it would sound great. Sometimes the gear doesn't matter, it's the player.

@jacksfan08 Looking around youtube, Jack isn't the only one using old Silvertone guitars. I saw Derek Trucks playing slide on one. I had forgotten they were really nice guitars, they just weren't taken seriously at the time since they were Sears guitars. They have some great tone after almost 50 years!

Back then he mostly used a Yamaha 50 watt solid state head into a separate cabinet with a 12" driver. He was often asked what kind of tubes was he using.
I want to say around 2013. He started working with Jim Hill at VVT after meeting him at an amp show. Jack had and used several of VVT's earlier models, but kept working with Jim to get the mid range tone stack right. They did that a couple of years ago and now offer the Jack Pearson model for sale. I know of 5 or 6 guitarists here in Nashville that now have one in their arsenal.
