I learned so much from him. He is the best TH-camr as far as crypto security and cold wallets are concerned. Very perfect and excellent. May God gives you more grace to continue till the world ends. Please make a video on hashwallet and dcent card reviews
Thanks :) The reality is that there are a large number of smartcard based wallets that are very similar (Tangem, hashwallet, etc) The main challenge with most of them is that you need to enter the seed words into your phone to initialise them. (I did a video on the Satochip + Seedkeeper cards which can avoid this, but they don't have good mobile apps at this time)
Excellent tutorial! Came across your channel recent and it’s become my go to for researching Crypto hardware/ security products. Really appreciate the work you put in. Thank you!
Can you verify the receive address on the screen of the foundation passport using multisig/sparrow? Can you power it off of USB incase you lose battery? I know they’re readily available nokia bl-5c batteries but in a pinch can you power it from the usb port?
I've had my Passport for almost two years. I didn't know about the Key Manager! Does that operate the same way as a Seed Signer, for same device multisig, etc? That seems very strange that you cannot delete the additional keys. (PS- love your channel)
Thanks :) It's basically BIP85 with a nice UI, so it lets you generate seeds, etc, that you can export, but doesn't have an option to make the device set that child seed as the currently active seed. (So you would need additional devices to use these seeds)
Brilliant review and deep dive thank you. I’m not sure I understand the whole sd card thing. Do I need the sd card to generate a seed phrase? I’m sure the sd card will be lost. Can’t I just use the device as a transaction signer? If I were to go across border control can I just wipe it and then enter the seed when I get to safety? That SD and that long code appears daunting. Another thing to memorise. What if I forget that sd code? Do I lose access to the wallet? Not sure I understand. Seems more complicated than normal cold wallets? I do love the design and so far out of all the wallets I’ve seen this would most likely pass brdr ctrl
The MicroSD thing is just an encrypted backup, so isn't needed, you can also just use a seed like a normal wallet. (But the MicroSD will also save other information about the accounts that you were using, labeling, etc)
I’m trying to update my firmware on my Iphone and unable to get passed the 6:45 mark on this video. You casually swapped to an Android, I don’t have an android, am I not able to do this with an Iphone 15???
Btw keystone pro is discontinued you should remove it I guess from your list. only version3 is available. Not sure why you put a lower score, for me the pro3 is better than the pro. Source has been published and bitcoin only firmware released since your review.
The Bitcoin-Only firmware just launched for the Keystone Pro 3, with multisig support being added last week. In terms of user experience, I do think that the Passport is a fuller featured and more accessible device as of today, with a more mature codebase, especially paired with Envoy. (Though is also almost double the price of the Keystone Pro 3) On the UX side, the touchscreen of the keystone 3 is much larger, so that will be important for some folk, and it also has the ability to store multiple seeds, as opposed to just having one. (Though whether you actually want multiple seeds or are happy with multiple accounts is your call)
How is the secure element working on the Passport? For example: Trezor Safe 3 main chip does not trust it. The SE never knows your seed, never knows your passphrase, never even knows your PIN. Even if it is broken or backdoored. The SE on the Trezor Safe 3 have no NDA but Passport does it?
Foundation passport, Coldcard and Trezor Safe 3/5 all have the same basic architecture when it comes to the relationship between the main MCU and the secure element. (In that none of them fully rely on trusting the SE) Passport and Trezor Safe 3/5 use the SE for more than just encryption of the wallet data, but also to verify the device genuineness.
It's theoretically possible that something malicious on a MicroSD card could cause issues with things like a Passport or a Coldcard, but the general, but something like this would be very complicated for someone to exploit.
Please guide me. Choose good one with good security for me. I am your fan. Ledger x, keystone 3 pro, onekey pro ( keystone and onekey pro are airgaps) please give me the one you think is the best among them.please 🙏☝️
Basically the most likely thing that a hostile version of the Envoy app would do is prompt you to enter your recovery seed into your phone. (Probably with some scary error message) It could also generate receive addresses that below to a scammer, not your wallet. (Hence why verifying the receive address on the hardware device is important) It could also produce malicious PSBT files which send the funds to somewhere other than the address you provided. (Hence why it's important to review the transaction on the hardware device) This is also true of any malicious wallet software.
@@CryptoGuide thanks for the reply much appreciated but I should've been more specific. What would happen with the passport should the goverment become hostile and pressure apple and Google play store to remove the envoy app from there stores. I'm not very familiar with the passport. I have blockstream jade right now and want to try this one out
I am stranded between " ledger x, onekey pro, keystone 3 pro" which one has the best security to choose for long term storage of my tokens.. please I need your advice 😭😭😭😭😭🙏🙏🙏🙏
Hi Steve, Nice work you do our TH-cam channel. So I would like to have a private session with you. I have issues login into my blockchain account. I have what is supposed to be my 12 seed phrase. Have lost my second password. But it keeps saying import wallet and later says there is no account associated with the phrase I am using. Please I have some funds there alongside my sisters because I just recently introduced her to crypto and she trusted me with her money. Please is there hope of a recovery because am really frustrated. Would be expecting a feedback so I can go ahead and book a session with you. Thank you
Ledger has no storage space, trezor has no Bluetooth and no mobile app. I will go with safepal S1 Pro. Keystone 3 pro is the most terrible device I have ever bought. 3 pro camera and scancode algorithm are very badly programed. Scanning codes for long time without scanning. It's so annoying. Poor battery power. One transaction drains the whole battery. Ellipal Mini is good also but many people in reddit complained their coins were moved from the device and also on TH-cam people complained they transferred their coins without using the device. Sounds so scary
Ledger Nano X has more space than you could ever need, works well with Bluetooth and the mobile app is very good. The safepal S1 should really be avoided... It's never been a good option...
Oh I see. I have Safepal S1 pro, onekey pro, tangem, dcent card wallet, hashwallet card, keypal card wallet ( made by keypal), keystone. Will you recommend keystone or onekey pro or dcent card wallet? I might stick to keystone or onekey pro
@@CryptoGuide Safepal S1 is easier to use than this, or if you are looking for an air gap but open source, you can use Keystone 3 Pro, people who are using a hardware wallet for the first time are not suitable for Foundation Passport
Thank you for creating such an incredibly detailed review. Super useful to be able to link people to when considering Passport.
No worries, glad it helped :)

The MicroSD reader didn't work with the iPhone I had on hand, so that was basically a show stopper on the iOS side.
@ Right, it’s not working for my iphone either. Ive tried with 2 different Iphones now. Is the firmware update a must to continue?
It's fine without, but worth doing when you get a chance

Between Foundation Passport and Keystone pro3 If you have to pick one, which one would you pick?
Btw keystone pro is discontinued you should remove it I guess from your list. only version3 is available. Not sure why you put a lower score, for me the pro3 is better than the pro. Source has been published and bitcoin only firmware released since your review.
I own both. Passport for Bitcoin. Keystone for all else (and some Bitcoin).

@@CryptoGuide Thank you. Do you recommend it? Can we trust this brand? Trezor is a big player but this?
They have been around for a few years now and seem fine, everything is open source with reproducible builds, so all good practices.
Quick question: Is there any possible way the microsd card could be compromised and used to hack the passport?
It's theoretically possible that something malicious on a MicroSD card could cause issues with things like a Passport or a Coldcard, but the general, but something like this would be very complicated for someone to exploit.
I have several hard wallets. Passaporte is the best !
It's a really nice device
Comprehensive. TY!
No worries, thanks :)
Why do they brick your device instead of wiping it out? If a device gets bricked, is there no way to wipe it out and start over?
It's the same security model as the Coldcard, it's just a design choice.
Was this an Airgapped set up?
Yep, the foundation passport doesn't actually support non-airgapped operation.
Thank you!
No worries :)
Do you have a discont cupon?
Not at this time

They are all very good, the main question comes down to which supports the coins/chains that you want to store.
What happens if the envoy app is attacked or whatever may happen?

Nothing, the device isn't dependent on Envoy at all.
