This guy is like Deadpool's more intelligent brother..just that he died Edit: I'm concerned that 1.7k people agreed with this. 5 years later, the two are very distinct from each other.
I just love this scene for so many reasons, most of all being the fact that they portray V as human in such a perfect manner. Most cinematographers choose to use only subplots to humanize their characters, such as falling in love, or a lost home or family. However even putting all of V's backstory aside he is shown to be as human and vulnerable as anyone, in just one passing thought that you are subtly reminded of everytime you see his gloves. I love how they portray how self-conscious he becomes over his hands, but even more so, that pause when he realizes that not only is Evey not disgusted, but also concerned. Or perhaps even simply just from his memory being too painful to talk about. It's only a brief moment, but you can see him rendered speechless. Despite all skill, mental prowess, or fighting ability, there is just that brief moment where he doesn't know what to say or do. And it portrays V's unease so well in the subtle change in tone of voice, the slight hesitation, not looking directly at Evey. Hugo Weaving plays V so well, that, for one brief second, V truly could be anyone. It may seem like a reach, but that's what the undertone of this is. That V could just as well be anyone.
By far my favorite scene is when he breaks down crying after Evie leaves. It instantly humanizes him going into the third act, so beautiful yet so very simple
There are so many scenes of V being an incredible freedom fighter then you have scenes like this that shows there is a man underneath that mask no matter what, just like any other person. Someone who enjoys watching a movie, cooking, and getting embarrassed when he's play fighting.
All girls love a good gentlemen, and I love how they display V emotions through nods of his mask or hand gestures. He really is a dish no matter what is beneath his mask. We all care about him because of his personality anyways.
A man who has a high level in vocabulary in English and speaks French, knows fight, knows how to use knives, has bulletproof armor and mask, and knows how to cook, a man i aspire to be 😂.
“The building is a symbol, as is the act of destroying it. Symbols are given power by people. Alone a symbol is meaningless but with enough people, blowing up a building can change the world.” Plus that score is amazing 🤧 Wow
Kita Lorraine; "Macho"? ...Please... Don't characterize V with such toxic masculinity. If anything, V's composure, stature and form is more comparable to a Victorian dandy.
Because all you can see is his character unfortunately if he takes of his mask...its possible youd have second thoughts. But it does help us realize that what matters is character.
Maria Macrina Lacson He is supposed to be a powerful revolutionary man. I feel like I should respect him (and that I do) then look at him in a different light. He is an old fashioned gentleman with an amazing vocabulary and vision something that men aren't these days.
ASB me too I saw this movie for my senior year English class and the minute I finished watching this movie I never stopped loving it and V. something so mysterious about him. And very classy and smart
Kita Lorraine Yes. I fell in love with V because he's such a gentleman. His language and manners are perfect. At the same time, he's highly intelligent and can be lethal. Probably the best combination of traits to make a fictional hero "desirable". BTW, before watching "V for Vendetta" I read and fell in love with the Count of Monte Cristo, on whom V is based. So may be that's my type ;-)
Kita Lorraine Yes, there's something powerful and protective about V that makes you think that if he's there, everything's going to be ok. As children, that's the feeling we tend to associate with father-figures, and as we grow older, we probably continue to look for it subconsciously, so that men like V are perfect for our psychological need for security.
T Bush that’s not true, there was another actor who started to play V but he quit weeks into filming. Hugo did the rest of the scenes (aside from the ones where they needed a stunt double) and he simply dubbed over the other actors lines bc reshooting would cost more
You see this guy, spent almost 20 years underground, making plans and schemes to ruin an entire empire and read and studied this whole time. Its all in his voice, the way he talks and all the books around his place
Fun-fact: Hugo Weaving (V) never uttered a word throughout the movie (while dressed as V) as speaking through the mask was difficult. It was all added in post-production as he spoke in a studio. I wonder if the director or another read his lines to Natalie Portman.
I love this scene so much. Also, the scene where he is sparring with one of the knight statues. I just love that he gets kinda embarrassed about stuff, like his hands.
