  • The Sony A7R II has an incredible 42MP full frame, Exmor R, back illuminated CMOS sensor, with 5 axis SteadyShot in-body image stabilization, and it’s powered by a BIONZ X processor and the A7S II has all those same specs and features but with a 12.2MP full frame sensor that's enhanced for better low light performance.

    Best video on comparison between A7s II vs A7R II. Thank you so much. No one else explained it as well as you.

    could you do a comparison of the extremely low light capabilities during motion or action shots? or does anyone on this thread have any knowledge to pass along? im looking for concert/ band/ dramatic stage events where i can not use flash

    Great video! Maybe you guys should do a follow-up video on these cameras on how they hold up in 2024, if you’d recommend them still etc!

    I'm very surprised by the noise performance of the A7Sii, and not in a good way. From all the other videos that I've seen, it absolutely blew away the competition in terms of noise performance. People were uploading sharp, great quality images at 12,800 ISO and the images seemed as clean as 800 ISO on my A7ii so to see such grain on the A7Sii at 6400 ISO is quite disappointing...

    Is the crop mode in the a7rII just a crop of the sensor or does it use the full sensor and makes some of the pixels act as one pixel?

    • @jakeandkimtv4661
      @jakeandkimtv4661 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +daneimp It crops the sensor down.

      +daneimp In crop mode only a 22.2 x 14.8 mm (approx. size of APS-C) sized section is used. The rest of the sensor is not utilized. *Andrea

    Simply a7S II ISO is two stops better than a7R II. For example a photo from a7S II at 12800 ISO has the same noise, dynamic range, color depth as a photo from a7R II at 3200 ISO. a7s II is an ISO King.
    In general the a7s II permits two to three stops smaller apertures than the best cameras of the market. That permits larger depth of field. A very important and unique feature.

      Up to 51k NO difference

    • @scottplumb142
      @scottplumb142 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually no.. There appears to be many 'competitive' responses regarding image quality by those owning an A7RII (or wishing they owned one), so lets keep it to honest evaluative responses.
      While noise is one dynamic of higher ISO image quality, it is only 'one' dynamic.. So while the A7RII may be able to achieve comparable image quality where noise is the primary factor of image degradation (such as the cityscape shots) there are plenty of other shots and situations where color and dynamic range are primary (such as the guitar shots) - where the A7SII handily out performs the A7RII.
      In either situation however, that is simply an assessment of what the sensor is doing - not an evaluation of all the other factors that make up each camera as a whole - and how those other factors can satisfy different needs or provide different benefits to different users.

    Not interested in video or printing posters. So it has to be the A7s2 for photography and burst rate.
    One or two comparison photos where you went for the R2 as best were out of focus, compared to the S2 I thought.

    I'm still learning about my a7s II that I owned. How do I turn on silent shutter when I takes photos?

    • @BandH
      @BandH  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +VersusTravels - You can set Silent Shooting by going into the camera’s menu. Silent Shooting would be one of the options in the Customer Settings section of the menu (section with an icon that looks like a gear). When you click on Silent Shooting, you would simply choose on or off. *Christina* askbh@bandh.com

    Question: where would a person need to use 409,600 ISO?
    Would that high an ISO mainly be used in video? I have the Sony a7s and an a7rii and using both to take Milky Way photos at 3200 ISO, I can not tell the difference between the two in low light photographic performance. Is 409,600 ISO even useable in any situation?

    • @BandH

      High ISO settings may be used for photo or video. >Mark

    Thank you for that comparison. Especially the proof, that the down-scaled image of the Alpha 7R II at least matches the quality of the Alpha 7S II.

    I guess there's a bigger difference in low light performance in the video compartment just because of the inability of the A7RII for scaling down compared to the A7SII. They both shoot up to 4k and in the same resolution the A7SII is the better performer in terms of low light.

    • @BandH
      @BandH  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      For a live event/wedding, the Sony A7R II would be the better choice. The A7S II might be best suited for use in studio photography or shooting subjects in existing light. >Mark

    Why not take a look at the Sony FE 90mm.f.2.8 and Sony/Zeiss FE 35mm.f.1.4, these two should be two of the best lenses for Sony FE full frame .....

    Why ignore the MUCH cheaper A7II?
    As a non video shooter I went with the 24MP A7 II, instead of the R or S. I already have the 36MP A7r ver 1 which I bought used (from B&H). I love using it but I wanted the benefit of image stabilization and the ability to use my Canon glass which with the November update makers AF super fast. The A7rII is great but at $3,300 it's almost double the cost of the A7II which isn't worth it to me.
    Since most of your buyers aren't pros I find it odd you don't mention the A7II which will meet most of their needs without spending a lot more $. Perhaps Sony sponsored these videos and wanted you to push the higher $/ higher profit margin models?

      +mavfan1 Hello mavfan1.
      The a7 II is an
      excellent camera, B&H is reviewing the newer cameras released against each
      other and we've covered the Sony a7 II as well in the following videos:

      +mavfan1 Owning both, I can say the A7RII is certainly worth it and a definite upgrade over the A7II.

    • @shaolin95
      @shaolin95 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Indeed! As much as I enjoyed my A7ii, the A7Rii is in a completely different league. Better ISO even when comparing 42MP to 24MP. Faster AF, Continuous Eye AF which is amazing, 4K video...you name it. I love the A7Rii so much that the only thing I could wish for was a bigger buffer and faster FPS shooting.

    the A7s is a scam. Crop 35 on the A7rii will go head to head with the S as far as iso. Ill keep my Af speed, color and megapixels and invest in some lighting
