Scripture Passage: Ephesians 2:1-10
BIG IDEA: God saves us by grace through faith in Christ for good works.
Introduction
Introduction to Ephesians.
1. Satan’s Rule vs. the Rule of Christ (vv.2-7)
The ruler of the kingdom of the air.
The ruler of the heavenly realms.
Reflection/Discussion Questions:
Which aspect of freedom in Christ do you appreciate the most?
For Kids: What is your favorite thing about being a Christian?
2. Deserving Wrath vs. Receiving Mercy (vv.3-4)
Accountable for our own sin.
The richness of God’s mercy.
3. Dead in Sin vs. Alive with Christ (v.5)
Not preventive, but restorative.
The spiritually alive must be different from the spiritually dead.
Only Two Realities.
Reflection/Discussion Questions:
What is one spiritual indicator that you are now alive with Christ?
For Kids: What makes you different from other kids who aren’t Christian?
4. Saved by Good Works vs. Saved for Good Works (vv.8-10)
The nature of a gift.
The necessity of good works.
New life, new lifestyle.
Reflection/Discussion Questions:
What is one thing you’ll be doing for another this week as a product of God’s handiwork?
For Kids: What is one good thing you can do for someone this week?
Conclusion
Know: God saves us by grace through faith in Christ for good works.
Be: Thankful for God’s gift of salvation.
Do: Good works as part of the new life you have in Christ.
