As a kid before I knew about SUVs I wanted that Aerostar van. One was on display at a mall that now no longer exists. That commercial sure takes me back to the 80s seeing those kids fashions.

That Econoline forward cab pickup is sure strange looking. It is hard to imagine it getting 30 MPG. That is impressive. The only problem is in a crash your feet get to the accident first!
I learned to Drive and got my license in An Aerostar ! Miss Space Shuttle Van....:) ( two transmissions, blew out front end..Lucky my Dad worked for Ford.)
actually this was before the EPA, so that means there is no emissions control like catalytic converters so the engines got much better mileage then modern cars with all the extra junk that increases backpressure.
lots of cool Falcon Econolines being customized these days I'd love a 61-65 with a fuel injected 6 cyl auto and ac...they are pretty today thought of as ugly back then
It’s quite important that these old films be presented “period correct”- the audio is crackling and dominated by white noise, and occasionally the drive motor in the film projector can be heard.
I love these old trucks. Too bad they now make ugly, aggressive-looking trucks for impatient, power-hungry people with huge egos who like to bully and tail-gate.
The factory lift on that '59 Ford Pickup is pretty darn high. I miss factory lifts in new 4x4 trucks. Today they are all low to the ground so us fat Americans can climb inside.
+Lancelot Link I love my '92 GMC. I inherited it from my Dad when he passed. It has an economical 4.3 liter engine and can get 19 MPG on the highway. It is a high truck and has an 8 foot bed and a 36 gallon gas tank! I don't like today's trucks. Too expensive and most have the short beds. BTW Lancelot Link, what you gonna do, when mad Doctor Strangemind comes after you!?
+Lockemeister ....Sounds like a nice GMC Lockmeister. Agreed on the new trucks being way to expensive. I mean who wants a 30-40 thousand dollar truck your afraid to scratch. Ha Ha on Dr. Strangemind. Toyota rules that segment of the market with the Tacoma. Chevy came out with the Colorado but dealers want as much as a full size because they don't have many of them. I like the look of that Brazil Ranger better too.
The thing is Lancelot Link , they were getting really high priced. There was only about $1000 to $2000 difference between the Ranger's price and the F-150's price. I liked those trucks too, but I can understand why they stopped US production.
Josh Lawley If I put a full size truck in my 2 car garage with a second vehicle I have to shoe horn myself in either vehicle which gets really old after a while. Here in the Phoenix area the sun will destroy your vehicle if its left outside so you have to garage if you want it to last. I want a smaller truck and will probably have to go Japanese because Ford doesn't give a crap about loyal customers like me.

Oddzylinder Fudgrub they had a 170 ci 6 cylinder, and pretty sure they had a 140 ci available too, the gas had more energy in it then, not nearly as many noxious additives, so with a light foot, a tailwind, and running downhill 30mpg could have been possible. We had a 63 Econoline van, 170ci, 3 on tree and got up to 25mpg but gas was 29cents a gallon.
My high school buddy inherited a econoline window van from his mother, that we liked to drive around with the motor cover off to watch the engine. It said "Falcon" on the side, and I have not seen another like it since. Was it an early model?

I've owned Ford the majority of my 50 years, and like them, but the Econoline truck was the ugliest truck I ever did lay eyes on. The only thing that eclipsed it, was the Edsel, for bad style. No matter if it was $230 cheaper, I'd have rather payed that extra for the F-100. The Econoline truck didn't last long. Believe it or not, I saw someone driving one of those Econoline trucks around, not long back. Several years before that, I also saw another take an Econoline van, plus an Econoline truck, and merge the two, making something like a crew cab, by cutting the vans front 2/3 off, and welding it to the rear of the trucks cab and bed. That was a weird looking monster. On the later vans, I do miss the pimped out van days of the 1970s. I remember those well, and remember what some came up with, to put inside. Out of all the Fords, I liked the Bronco, the old original, (notice that they call it a sports car here), and the later large version, based on the short wheelbase F-150 4x4. I could haul anything with it, and still had the seating in it like a car. My 89 Bronco XLT was decked out, and drove as easy as any Mercury Grand Marquis or Lincoln. It was the best of SUV's, if you want to call them that. (A point I noted; to see how bad Wikipedia has gotten, they claim that XLT means the low end trim on Ford vehicles. Look up XLT there). The early Ranger and Bronco II, weren't that bad either. I owned both. Next, they show the Aerostar minivan. Try getting someone to work on one of those, the mechanics despise them.
Ford Bronco... No doors, no roof, no seatbelts... no problem!
No chassie,no wheels,no windshield,no engine,NO PROBLEM
neominois No body? *No problem*
No windshield wiper? No problem!
Now we have the new bronco
I love the first set of Econoline commericals, perfect timing sales pitches and music so campy it's good

The Econoline commercial is the greatest TV commercial I've ever seen!
I wish Ford and Chevrolet would come back with the Ranchero and El Camino
Ford is bringing back the bronco for 2019 or 2020. So hopefully the ranchero and el camino will comeback to.
