That is a nice box. My dad had 10 hives. I wish I had learned more from him about them but I was afraid. I thought the yellow jackets that had stung me were honey bees. As an adult, I have learned that I could pick and work around crops and the honey bees would just fly right against my hands as long as I did not bother them or they got caught in my hair. Good luck. When i was 18 yrs old i worked for a bee supply company and i was a machine operater that made those parts, only machine i didn't run was the end bar machine, cool to see these parts being put together..

Wood glue is the way to go on those wood frames, it bonds the wood from coming apart because those little frames can weigh 10 lbs each. The strip of wood is an entrance reducer for cold weather and small colonies. BTW: the bees will forage a mile or more and placement does not need to be in your orchard, anywhere on the property will work.

You also have to douse them w/menthol, they have strips to keep away varoa mites off your bees. The bees also have to be inspected once a year by the government people who do that. They always have beekeeper meetings in your local town. You will learn a lot about bees from other beekeepers. I have tried to find wild hives here in my town, but it isn't easy. What I did was get an apple, cut out the inside of it/made a hollow & put in sugar water, later I got a bee & put it in the sugar water. It worked, it went back to the hive & told the other bees where the sugar water was, before I knew it I had hundreds of bees at the apple. My local beekeeper meetings are at our local library, first saturday of the month. You can buy beekeeper equipment from other beekeepers, they usually have the equipment for sale when they buy new ones. Never, I repeat, never walk in front of a hive, ever. They keep guards there & they will attack you. Always approach from the side & smoke the hive before you attempt anything. Best time to check the hive is morning, because most of the bees are out gathering pollen & such. Looks on craigslist to find other beekeepers equipment. You will meet the nicest people. Good luck w/your endeavors! (Look for people who sell honey in your area, you will learn a lot!)(Kevin, You will need to keep a rock on top of the hive. You will also need to put a fence around the hive because raccoons & possums love to get into hives. I would suggest an electric fence you can hook up to keep them away.)

Those are dovetail joints on the box, I remember learning to make them in woodwork at school. I think it's a wonderful idea not to harvest the honey, from my limited understanding this will give you a happier healthier colony and your family more in harmony with nature. I agree that the instructions often let down any Asian made products. I hope you can make a video of how you capture a colony of wild bees.
Hmmmm id eat the honey 🍯 my uncle had a huge bee hive with thousands and omg it was soo delicious be of course but he did leave enough to keep them alive during the winter he'd always can honey with there hive in the jar its so delicious

I have a neighbor who builds and has and harvests honey. Just make sure it is away from your animals...but I would love for their to be more bee keepers.
