  • Today Metro announced a plan to test potential future station concepts at Bethesda Station.
As part of its strategic plan, Momentum, the model station will enable Metro to test several design concepts in a single station, with improved lighting, better information and improved customer convenience.
As an underground station with a center platform design, Bethesda represents the hardest type of station to illuminate, making it an ideal location for the "model station" pilot.

i feel like something they should think about adding is a color scheme for each station that incorporates the colors of that station. so like while still having stainless steel... also added orange to the setting of an orange line station, blue to a blue line station, and blue and orange for station stations that are both blue and orange. that way it gives some color and flavor to the metro system!

I like how old and dark metros are. Can we keep it that way? It keeps the metros looking rugged, tough, and weathered by the elements. A happy bright modern metro wouldn’t be the one I know. I love the 7000 series, but I hope we always keep the old ones too.

WMATA shows riders what out-of-order escalators of the future will look like. Still don't work, but they're damn sexy.

Instead of a chrome "station of the future" can we please just have a functioning station of the present?

@via_transit Yup and things haven't gotten much better...in fact, they are worse...though the pandemic has a lot to do with it and people don't trust WMATA to keep them safe.

The Purple Line is ending in this station, so I guess that's why they're choosing this station, but then again we'll find out what will really happens there. As soon as they start the Purple line Light rail construction in 2015 that is.

Yesterday morning, two trains on the red line broke down. This caused delays in each direction. Yesterday evening, a fire broke out on a train at Silver Spring. This caused major delays for train & bus riders, not to mention street traffic. Therefore they’re planning on updating the interior of Bethesda station.
Just because we're traveling 80 mph in an outdated, malfunctioning metal deathtrap with hundreds of other people doesn't mean we can't gussy our surroundings up a bit. Thanks Metro!

Question on the new pylon design: the current center platform pylons also provide ventilation for the stations. Noting that the concept designs have the signage where the vents currently are, how would that all work? Would the vents be moved?

Add Stairwell to platform at the following stations: Archives-Navy Memorial, Federal Center SW, Foggy Bottom, Eastern Market, Addison Road, Capital Heights, Benning Road, Woodley Park-Zoo, Cleveland Park, Van Ness-UDC Tenleytown, White Flint , Rockville, Twinbrook & Medical Center

Please don't "improve" the lighting for the underground stations, just replace the bulbs. Maybe I'm just being sentimental but I love the dim lighting. It's so uniquely WMATA.

please go to Seoul, Korea. take pictures, make notes and bring it back to DC. they have the best system in the world.
seats along the walls for maximum capacity. walls and doors on the platform to prevent people from falling on the tracks. numbered metro entrances/exits to make navigating stations easier. google maps actually shows accurate metro station layouts. automated trains.
there's probably more im missing, but start with this

If the coffers are covered up and the light levels increase it will ruin two the most trade mark and beautiful aspects of Weese's designs. these are the most beuatiful rail stations on the planet. Keep the aesthetic as is and update the sound systems, escalators, and ticket methods. Also get rid of all the added metal conduit on the beautiful beton brut concrete!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You guys don't have the initiative to add signage to inform tourists to move to the front 3/4 of the platform to board six-car trains, but you have the time to come up with this garbage that is as well-rendered as Dire Straits' "Money for Nothing" video? You should be ashamed of yourselves.
