  • We were sitting on the beach at the Inland Sea. A Toyota Land Cruiser pulled up and the driver asked for our help. Their friends were stuck. We followed them quite a way, around 2km over the dunes. We eventually came to a Chevrolet Traverse that was stuck.
It wasn't buried particularly deep, but it was on the side of a steep dune, the sand was particularly soft.
We couldn't pull it downwards as the dunes were shaped as a funnel and it would have been very difficult to get the vehicle out if it had gone down to the bottom.
The Land Cruiser that we had followed did manage to get stuck at the bottom. WE thought we would have to recover that as well. But after a few minutes of driving it built up enough speed around the bottom of the funnel to get out. The Traverse would not have been able to do that.
We had to dig underneath the Traverse in order to find somewhere to secure the winch rope to.
We winched the traverse up the dune, moved back and winched again. Then all three cars drove down the outside of the dune.

Hi there - I am in Dubai and have a v8 LC200 much like yours - I’m running 33’s on braid off road wheels - tyres are BF Goodrich Ko2’s and are only 285’s. They are almost brand new (maybe 3k kms) and are performing AWFULLY in the desert - I’ve no bead lockers so haven’t been lower than 13psi and the car is getting bogged and digging itself downwards on straight flat ground, albeit really dry powder sand - but absolutely nothing technical and no real inclines to speak of. 🤷🏼‍♂️
Any ideas? Many many thanks - love your videos 🙏🏼

      Thank you for watching.
I have not used those tyres, but looking at them they have quite an agressive tread. They probably perform well in Mud and dirt that has a little "body" to it.
I run desert Maxxis, they are a balloon tyre, with quite a smooth tread. Running them at 14 psi the car drives through almost all types of sand without too much trouble.
I have them on 16" steel rims (We grind down the brake calipers to make them fit). They have very deep sidwalls, I feel that the tyre bulges at the bottom where it is buried a little way into the sand and drives off the sidewall as much as from the tread.
The relatively smooth tread prevents the tyres from digging holes.
The tyres are cheap, around QR 500.
They handle terribly on the road, useless in mud and wear out every 6 months.
