Oh my god THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!!! I tried using math to make it add to the x and y variables every time the box was pushed and it was so finnicky and annoying and didn't even work. This taught me so much and saved me so much time and effort.
These advanced tutorials are great! Sometimes I have to pause and look at your screen very carefully to make sure I didn't miss something. Like making the move route for the boulder on the player instead! DOH! And I had trouble with the bridge. My character couldn't cross it. But I think it was because of the tile I chose for the land. At least when I made some changes Ii finally got it to work. Thanks!
This is great! I premptively liked, because I knew I'd learn something new... haven't had many puzzles in my games... more SNES era FF inspiration games. But I think I should have a couple now to put my players on edge.
Really depends what type of game you're aiming for, I grew up playing lots of Legends of Zelda, so my RPGs usually covers a wide variety of puzzles, but I think something great that you could add if you're more FF type of RPGs is having side dungeons with puzzles that rewards a cool unique loot at the end. That way players are left to decide whether or not they want to do the puzzle and it doesn't impact their gameplay that much if they don't. Anyway, Glad you liked it! :)
You're making really great content. A far greater catalog of techniques and tips for MZ than anyone else on the platform. I think making your thumbnails a bit more dynamic with some vibrant parallax maps or something would really help your channel take off. I almost didn't click on your videos because the basic looking map with default assets in the thumbnail (falsely) made it seem like you didn't know what you were doing. Obviously, a unique and dynamic looking map doesn't actually make the tutorial better. But all it takes is just one viral video for everybody to discover your channel and a good looking thumbnail is like 90% of that. I think you're gonna be big. Remember us when you take off aight?
Woaw, Thanks for the kind words, you really just made my day here! I admit the map on this video is unbelievably simplistic (possibly the simplest map I ever did) but the idea was to bring the focus on the puzzle layout rather than the map looking good. Now its true it might have hurt my click through rate a little bit because of the thumbnail, but from my TH-cam analytics, I'm standing at a relatively decent score on an average of 7% click rate. (Biggest channels usually get somewhere between 2 to 10% from what TH-cam says). And while you are right, parallax maps would definitely help a lot for thumbnails, it would bring the focus somewhere I'm not trying to bring it. Plus, a good looking parallax map can take 30mins to 2hours depending how detail oriented you are and the size of the map itself. Which is time I unfortunately do not have with my life right now. So my current strategy is to go with release quantity for now, which have been giving me a 100% channel growth per month since release, which is very big. I also feel like, that while the thumbnails aren't the greatest, the content I'm getting on with the advanced tutorials is really where I'm gonna get my traction, because I agree with your statement, there's a lot of stuff that I cover or will cover that nobody does on TH-cam, people usually stops after explaining the basics, which is, disappointing to say the least. And I feel like whenever somebody will give me a chance, even if my thumbnails aren't the prettiest, I usually gain a like, comment and/or new sub, which helps the channel gaining traction, slowly but steadily. I might eventually release videos at a slower pace in order to provide better quality, but for now it seems to be the strategy that works best for me. Also, don't worry, I love each one of you for subbing/liking and commenting my content, and will try to always answer comments and reaching out to you as much as humanly possible and give back the love in some ways or another. My channel cannot exist without you all!
@@rpggamemaker6684 Ya for sure, do what's working for you. Do you have any personal projects or games you've completed? You seem to know the program inside and out and I'd love to see some games you've worked on.
I've got a few, there's mostly small projects that hang out there, my most serious one was an open world project called Yggdrasil Gates which was available on a couple sites about 4years ago for a while, but I wasn't pleased with the final results so I took it off to remaster it. I'm also working on a more ambitious project for about 3years now, hopefully I'll get to share it with you all in the future.
How would you go about making a reset switch (or even leaving and returning to a map) to reset the boulders in the case that a player say, pushes one into a corner and now can't get it out?
I actually dont have any switch named isGameStarted. All my switchs are empty. Soooo ... ?? I watched your video linked, u are not explaining how u have this switch already there in your list :( so im stuck now :(
Hi! It is best to watch the whole advanced tutorial playlist in order to not get stuck on those kind of scenarios. That being said the isGameStarted switch is used in order to launch the GameManager Common Event which provides me with useful information at any time. You can watch the tutorial on how to set it up right here: th-cam.com/video/btgTpKve0Yo/w-d-xo.html The link is also inside the video description. I hope this helps!
@@rpggamemaker6684 the isgamestarted switch how-to isn't in this video. it's somewhere in the previous 31 videos. this video just says you need to have it to make the game manager work.
I'd like a tutorial about the same puzzle but "unlock" a chest with a item inside, like a key :3 If someone know where i can find it ? Also i dont have the "isGameStarted" switch.
Hi! It is best to watch the whole serie in order to not get stuck on those kind of scenarios, otherwise explaining things would take for hours to reexplain stuff that has already been explain in prior tutorial. That being said the isGameStarted switch is used in order to launch the GameManager Common Event which provides me with useful information at any time. The link is inside the video description. Also, in order to set it up in order to unlock the chest, all you have to do is change the bridge event for an actual chest and you're all set!
So, I have no programming background and have made it through 32 videos feeling like I can almost grasp what you are talking about.... but this video blew me away with its complexity (at least for me... for you it is probably very basic). Anyway, I'd love to be able to understand more what is going on, but you move so quickly through the explanations, I really have no clue why something works or doesn't work. I have the feeling this is only going to compound in difficulty if I keep watching more videos...
I appreciate how you take 20 minutes to explain what takes someone else 40. Thank you for the crisp editing, fast forwards, and concise instructions.
Well, I guess my years spent teaching new programmers at my job finally paid off! Glad you enjoyed it! :)

You are so welcome!
eveything is working properly exept for the fact i can't cross the bridge? Why?
nevermind, it was because i was using the wrong tiles.

there has got to be a better way to do this
There is, but it requires to write everything in javascript
