Because I so dislike Navarro, and this is the official WTA TH-cam Channel, here's my analysis of Navarro's game and how to destroy it if I were a WTA player competing against her: Navarro is a formidable competitor, largely due to her exceptional movement and strategic approach to the game. In an era where many players focus heavily on powerful groundstrokes from the baseline, Navarro distinguishes herself with a more nuanced style, incorporating slices, drop volleys, and other techniques designed to disrupt her opponent's rhythm and never let them be ‘comfortable’. This tactical variety can be challenging to counter, particularly for players who rely solely on power and playing from the baseline. However, Navarro's game has vulnerabilities that can be exploited. Her serve is notably weak, especially her second serve, making her prone to double faults and returns. A player with a strong return game can capitalize on this weakness by aggressively attacking her serve, putting Navarro on the defensive right from the start of the point. Complementing this with a solid service game of their own can effectively neutralize her overall strategy. While Navarro's forehand and backhand are solid, they are not exceptional in power. In fact, Navarro is one of the weaker players on tour, and relies on her opponent to commit unforced errors in rallies rather than overpowering them. What makes Navarro’s groundstrokes dangerous is her ability to deploy them within her tactical framework due to their overall precision, top spin, and consistency. Therefore, it’s crucial to disrupt her rhythm by employing a varied and unpredictable shot selection. By forcing her to react rather than dictate the pace and play, you can chip away at her tactical advantage. Her backhand especially can become unreliable when she's pressured. Players should adapt the gameplay used against opponents like Ons Jabeur, which involves reading and responding to slices and drop shots while managing changes in pace. Powerful groundstrokes and an aggressive, unpredictable approach will push Navarro out of her comfort zone, making her a defensive player who cannot dictate the points due to her relative weak power. Navarro excels against opponents who become passive at the baseline, relying too much on power and just hitting winners. This is one of the reasons she has been able to ascend the rankings so quickly. However, she struggles against players who are difficult to read and maintain a fast, aggressive tempo-evidenced by her defeat against Jasmine Paolini at Wimbledon, where Paolini effectively neutralized Navarro by finishing points at the net and consistently switching the shot selection in extended rallies to not give Navarro any ground to execute her plans.
It makes me very happy when Russian players win and Mirra is no exception. She is very talented and has a great future and tennis potential. I hope she knows how to take advantage of it and so do her coaches. IMHO!
I think Mirra is a future Grand Slam winner in the making. Conchita Martinez ( 4.32) is doing a fantastic job coaching her. Speaking of Russian girls, I hope Kasatkina, Schnaider, Samsonova, Kalinskaya along with Mirra can get through the next round and make a run to the quarter finals.
Mirra is my #1 watch! She is truly different from most! She has great court sense for one so young with a nice serve and a good winner/unforced ratio.
