so many comments here are actually concerning me: Indra Jatra is not a Newari festival. It is a NEPALI festival for the sake of NEPALI agriculture. But yes this is wholesomely regulated by Newari people. Do u think Ganesh is just celebrated by the Newari people? NO ... but we saw how Ganesh also came there... kumari is mixed between Sakya and Buddhist clan .. which means even Buddhists have to be included. THE misconception of ALL THE Bahun and Chhetri living in Kathmandu, I feel sad that our parents never taught s why we celebrate INDRA Jatra rather we take this solely as something only Newari people have to do. ALL my respect to the Newari community for preserving the culture, even when our government has separate no fund at all for this thing. Thus, don't say things like "I am not newari but I respect.... !!! It is our country's festival for entire Nepali but solely celebrated in KATHMANDU where mostly at that time NEWARI people existed. Dear Bahun and Chhetri and the rest, our parents/forefathers just never told the story and we missed it, to even take a glance or be a part of it . Half of us despite growing up in Kathmandu ( inside the valley) never even visited or heard about INDRA Jatra. Sad
