    Great tutorial, I cant stand that there is no visual display going on with the obs filters especially with their compressor, I want to see how much compression is being applied which the reaper plugin shows nice and clearly

    Dude your way of explaining things its so good!! Im not tech savvy at all and usually struggle understanding tutorials about these topics but your video made total sense to me. I really appreciate that you took your time to share your knowledge, it made a huge difference in how my mic sounds and it has been something that worried me since i began streaming some months ago. Thank u so much! (Also your way of speaking is super clear so i had no trouble understanding what you said even tho my english listening skills are quite bad hehe)

    The noise reduction is a game changer! Never heard my voice this clear without any background noise, I mean there is still some background noise but still not as bad as it usually is! Thanks for the awesome guide!

    I defintiely have been doing things wrong, because my processed audio attempts often sound worse than the raw audio. This is the most apprachable advice I've been given about EQ settings though. Because it's so specific to your own voice

    This is an incredibly thorough and rewarding video to watch in full, thank you! While the steps need to be done in order, I tried my best to timestamp some of the categories of info for quick referencing or reviewing just in case. Hopefully I hit the right notes, and sorry if I missed anything super important.

    Great guide! If I may I find that for the EQ I was struggling alot in listening to myself until I randomly played a voice clip redeem of mine and noticed how that changed. I then got the idea to record my voice and play it in a loop to find that muddiness and sweetspots. I do not know if this might help someone but helped out extremely for me.

    the video was very helpful to go through my mic audio settings in obs with your guidance. the best parts of the video are the explanations that accompany each setting and the example at the end of showing what settings look like on/off. In the future, it would be helpful to gain an understanding of how to position your mic audio next to other audio items in obs (e.g., game sounds, alerts, music, etc.). I think that type of content may accompany this video well. great work marrowmage and hope to see more from the academy! now to start streaming, if i ever get around to doing it.... but i love learning. this was really cool and well done!

    Incredibly helpful with the VST plugins especially, since I had them but didn't quite know which ones were important or what they were, really. The built-in plugins in OBS really don't give you as much control as these VST plugins.

    • @marrowmage
      @marrowmage  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah! The lack of visual feedback is a huge reason the controls are so confusing IMO

  • @Mage_House
    @Mage_House ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hi! Just got done watching your video ^-^ It was incredibly insightful. Thank you so much! I did have a question however.
    We always stream in a group of people all in the same room. We all sit on the couch together, so we're pretty close to each other. There's always at least 2 of us, sometimes 3 or 4. What do you recommend we do? I've considered getting everyone lav mics, but I worry that the mics will pick up other people, not just the person that the mic is clipped onto.
    Right now there's a lot of echo, which I do recognize is partly because we stream in a living room with tall ceilings, no carpet, etc. I think it used to sound better when we had the obs noise gate on. However, a lot of laughs and other things would get cut off. So we recently (like last week) turned off all filters and now you can hear everything, including sounds in the room like the projector, any shuffling, etc. I'm kind of at a loss because I feel like we just have a bad set up for streaming, but the living room is really the only place that accommodates all of the people we like to stream with XD
    We currently use a blue snowball mic on a mic arm that is positioned in the middle of everyone. Usually one person is sitting closer to the mic than the others, so I think it sounds uneven. You can really tell what person is sitting closer to the mic. Which makes sense XD
    I will definitely give everything you mentioned in this video a try, but I just wanted to hear your thoughts about our situation.

    • @marrowmage
      @marrowmage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Heya!! Great question. The ideal solution would probably be getting everyone a lav mic, as you mentioned. You'll get some 'bleed' between people but it should be minor enough that it'll still fix the primary problem. Another solution that might be worth looking into is NVIDIA broadcast, which comes with the RTX line of graphics cards. It's essentially an AI version of the noise suppression plugin I used in this video, that's trained to remove the classic negative sounds of streaming. That might do a much better job for your situation than the noise sup/gate combo shown here. Positioning a single mic for a group of people in a casual setting is definitely tricky. What I'd recommend is setting the mic to it's cardioid polar pattern, then picking up something called a reflection filter. It's basically a half open box that will reduce of the sound being reflected off the walls around the mic!

    Hello Marrow! Your tutorial is amazing and incredibly helpful!.. but when it comes to the Replugins part for the filters my streamlabs Obs doesnt seem to work. i restarted my Streamlabs after downloading the plugins and go to the filters, which even though it shows the VST 2.x Plugin added it in and yet when i try to choose the specific filter like noise reduction for example there arent any options at all just the one saying (please select a plugin). Please help me on this im so lost ;w;

    Late to the party but this was fantastic marrow. That was a great and easy to follow along video. I learned a lot and the idea of a tutorial meeting people were they are at is great. There are things you talk about in this video that I will have to revisit because I'm limited in my current set up. The only thing I struggled with was listening for those changes in my voice. That might be a skill issue though. Thx for the amazing video. I'm passing it out to friends and family who are interested in this sort of thing.

  • @AradhaliaDesigns
    @AradhaliaDesigns ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you so much for the video! I notice that when I open ReaFir I dont get the spectral analysis. Instead I see about 10 completely vertical lines around the 1k-5k mark and I dont know what that is. I tried unplugging and re-plugging in my mic, turning logitech blue Voice off and on. I'm using a Blue Yeti 1.0 if that helps. I tried googling it and nothing has come up :\
    The other filters do work, it seems to only be that one for some reason.

    • @AradhaliaDesigns
      @AradhaliaDesigns ปีที่แล้ว

      figured it out - i think my mic is broken lol it seems like audio input only works through the left side. The bars in ReaGate show the right side as full at all times and when i wasnt streaming in mono people only heard me through their left ear lol

  • @karonuva
    @karonuva ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm unsure if I just missed it, but is there any reason in particular to mess with the microphone levels in windows settings, rather than just leaving it at 100% and just turning the blue (output?) slider in OBS down?

    • @marrowmage
      @marrowmage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, there is actually! The volume slider in the windows settings adjusts the *input* gain of most USB microphones. If this level is at 100% there's a good chance the signal is too strong and your mic will be distorting, regardless of if you turn it down in OBS. That's why correctly setting the input vs. output gain correctly is super important.

    • @dampmus
      @dampmus ปีที่แล้ว

      Its like with my mic. When its 100% in Windows it sounds so trash and boosted. Did bring it down to 65% and sounds amazing compared to 100%.

    • @marrowmage
      @marrowmage  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Vamp! If you're having a problem with room echo, unfortunately there isn't a great way to fix it outside of rearranging your room so that there are more things on the walls, etc. to absorb the sound. I think NVIDIA Broadcast might have an option to reduce it artificially, which might be worth looking in to. Addressing it at the source is always best though, as the more things you add to the mic signal, the worse quality it gets.

    • @LittleMissVampy
      @LittleMissVampy 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@marrowmage Thank you so much for your response!! I thought it was room echo but obs recordings is the only one who sounds like I am echoing/reverbing(heard someone explain it like that).

    i actually think i sound worse LOL, everything sounds so echoey and yuck. how do i remove that?
    EDIT: it seems that the noise reduction filter is causing a lot of the echoey and electronic sounds that i hear on playback. however, without the noise reduction filter, everything in the background becomes audible. im not sure how i can fix this issue. any advice?

    Will this work well with someone using Voicemod? I use a cyborg voice change and I've been wondering why some words and stuff cut out a bit or don't go through.

    • @miershyk
      @miershyk ปีที่แล้ว

      I've used Voicemod before (along with Voicemeeter), but what I noticed is that Voicemod has its own background noise cancellation and that might interfere and cut your words out. I was DM-ing for my friends and often get told that my voice cuts off often and I realised that's one reason. It likely has to do with the Noise Gate function. If so, turn those function off and try to see if it still cuts your words.
