Yuri's comment on people "putzing around" in this vehicle is spot on in my opinion. I recently purchased this and if you are buying it, you should understand very well that this car isn't for speed. It is a comfortable compact off-road inspired car with great capabilities for the price. I enjoy the chill drive from this car and when I'm in it, I have no desire to slam the accelerator. If speed or spirited road driving is what you really want, don't get this; or do what I did and keep your fun sporty manual car. When I want a fun drive, I grab the keys to the other. Overall, great video as always guys

I have a 2021 Crosstrek Sport 50,000 miles on the 2.5 never misses a beat only complaint duel X mode gets real angry when spinning the tires in the snow it kinda bangs so you really have to use it when you are planning on creeping under 25 and let it do its thing and don't floor it. I've heard this gen has fixed the issue and engages and disengages instead of just shutting off.

Never wanted a Subaru or had interest in them until i got my 24 Crosstrek limited. Got it in alpine green and some bronze Terra wheels with wildpeaks A/T tires. Its slow as hell but at least now i don't have to worry about scrapping everything underneath my car due to shit roads and parking lots.

    • @lguinness6490
      @lguinness6490 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

I know! This is my next vehicle. Shit roads is right--LA is rated the worst roads in the country. OC not much better, except for Newport Beach (so the lambos can run PCH). Esp after the rains. After 4 shredded (must be replaced) tires (run flats) in four months on my Audi S3, I am just getting all terrain. Never problems before this year. Used to live at Tahoe; Subarus were great in ice and snow there with snow tires.
The Irvine City person told me "well, everybody has suvs with off road tires anyway". Really? So I need off-road tires for a city street because you can't properly repair the crevasses and ravines and giant caverns of asphalt and debris?
We also have a lot of hit and runs, uninsured motorists, etc. Three of my colleagues rear-ended this past year, all cars totaled. Very difficult to recoup with insurance--so why have a high-priced car unless you're wealthy? My neighbor is a billionaire; he drives a Forester.
I do like all the turbo cars I've had for high altitude and for freeway merges. I'm at sea level by the beach now; and trying to merge is a nightmare because cars stop completely, or go so slow (suvs, big ones, trucks), with only a few racers actually punching it to merge. I'm always inadvertently on people's tails. Now I will be the slow one. Geez.
I find that people generally are just tuned out of driving, except for a few road ragers who think they are Fast & Furious 37. I see very few genuine enthusiasts or professional drivers who are actually paying attention (vs vaping, snorting, swigging, texting, talking on phones, playing video games, watching TH-cam on their screens, napping, running red lights at intersections, driving crazy after robberies at drug stores and malls, etc.) Near where I live a couple of criminals drove a Ford SUV right into the windows of the Louis Vuitton store at Neiman Marcus to steal bags.
Thought about a Toyota Tacoma with off road--ghastly expensive. My old SR5s would work on these awful roads. Now I know why my dad (when is walked the planet) drove beaters up in Humboldt County.
Tested a new $$BMW x1 (a too large tank, really ungainly) and an $$$Audi SQ5 (tremendous hp, but you have to brake hard to corner, too big and no road feel). I don't get all these super high-powered, high profile vehicles that just trudge along. Range Rovers in my neighborhood, $$$$Porsche Cayenne Turbos, all going so slow. Plus, they all have sport tires; so I am back to square one. I tried to find a Ford Ranger, also unavailable and unaffordable, as well as Broncos and Jeeps--all very pricey and not reliable.
Best of all, the electric Ford 150 is only $100,000.

The Crosstrek Wilderness with the 2.5l engine and a manual transmission would pretty much be the perfect daily driver for me. It angers and frustrates me to no end that Subaru keeps dropping manual transmissions from their vehicles. That 5% take rate figure is artificially deflated by Subaru's own poor decision making and is in no way indicative of the number of Crosstrek buyers (or Subaru buyers in general) that would prefer a manual transmission over the CVT if it were available on their desired trim level. Subaru has a history of removing the option of a manual transmission on their higher trim levels and limiting the manual to the bottom trim levels, then pointing at the low take rate as justification for removing the manual transmission altogether. It's no wonder fewer people choose the manual transmission when they can't get it with the bigger engine, leather seats, better headlights, or better stereo system that is only available in the higher trim models. Even when the manual transmission was available on the Premium model, if you wanted to spec any of the available options, they were only offered in a bundle with the CVT, so if buyers wanted anything more than a few dealer installed accessories they had to choose the CVT.
The low take rate of manual transmissions in my opinion is in no small part a result of a self-fulfilling prophecy of Subaru's own making. Even in the WRX, a vehicle that Subaru says has a 90% take rate for manual transmissions, the top trim level is now CVT only. I honestly don't understand why they won't listen to the customers and journalists who keep asking for manual transmissions and just make it a no cost option on the higher trim levels where the CVT is standard, especially since they would already be charging customers for the more expensive CVT and giving them a cheaper manual transmission. It would literally make them more money to do this, and those of us who want both a manual transmission in our Subaru and leather seats or a nicer sound system would happily pay that price (which is far cheaper than swapping one in yourself and voiding the new car warranty in the process). I think if they went back to offering the manual on every trim like they used to they would be surprised at how much more often the manual gets chosen than it was in recent years (especially now that they can make EyeSight work with a manual transmission, which was there "official" reason for dropping the manual from the Crosstrek since they wanted to make EyeSight standard equipment on every Subaru and for some reason couldn't make it work with manual transmissions before). Subaru built their brand on being a fun practical vehicle for enthusiasts, and a big part of that was the combination of AWD and a manual transmission, and I really hope they get new management that realizes just how far from that image they've strayed.

I like the looks, but if I recall correctly the Forester outback is about the same price, so for my money that's a much better value. The CVT and 2.0 are deal breakers from me on any of them though. Subaru is approaching Toyota 4Runner levels of stubbornness when it comes to replacing this drivetrain.

I actually really hate any screen in the center dash. My Tacoma has one that I never use. Thankfully it can be shut off.
Can this one be shut off ?
I really hate how they have incorporated the heat and A/C controls into the screen. Complete safety hazard. Physical knobs can be learned and felt, to adjust without looking away from the road.
Now with this screen you have to look at it to adjust something as simple as your heat or A/C.
So, can the screen be turned off so it is blank while driving ?

Love my Crosstrek Wilderness but not as happy about towing a trailer when the car has only flat 4-pin wiring, i.e. no trailer brake 7-pin. The Wilderness is rated for 3,500 pounds but the car weighs 3,417 pounds. It's not wise to tow anything more than 2,300 lbs. but even then having a trailer brake option would make things a lot safer. Subaru doesn't offer OEM upgrade to 7-pin which is odd, especially if Subaru customer safety is a priority. Promoting 3,500 pound towing but no trailer brake option -- not good.
