Massive Attack was the greatest trip hop group of the early 90s. The entire Blue Lines album is amazing. It really blew up in the underground clubs, etc. Anytime I played the album, my friends would instantly want a copy. It’s one of the best albums ever made in my opinion and the song Daydreaming on the album is definitely one of my favorite songs of all time.
I feel there is a story there,...... please share if you feel like it. That comment sparked up all these images in my mind. Greetings from Berlin Germany
Absolutely loooooove this song!! ❤️ It never seems to age!! Massive Attack are amazing… loved “Angel” and “Teardrops” too 🤩🙌🏻 ohhhh and how could I forget the amazing cover they did of Robert Palmer’s “I Want You” with Madonna ❤️❤️❤️
This was important for your Madonna journey, because Nellie Hooper, who produced for this group, work later with Madonna for a lot of songs of the ''Bedtime Stories'' album. Also, Madonna adventured in this same territory of Massive Attack few times during the album. Because this album was in majority RnB/pop (you hear that in ''Survival'') with some hip-hop elements, but ''Sanctuary'' and the title track was very different then the rest of the album.
recorded 1990, released in 91, though, as a DJ back then, we got a mysterious "promo copy only" release right before it was released & it got ppl dancing but also asking "what/who is this?!" it was an incredible beginning for such an evolving "sound system" of Massive Attack.. i highly recommend further exploration into this group! from that album: "Daydreaming", next album "Karma Coma" & "Protection", next was their masterpiece album "Mezzanine"! such an amazing album, you need to explore it yourself from beginning to end.. it literally was the "25th anniversary" re-release of that album (just before the pandemic hit) that they remastered/released & then toured on it which was my last in-person concert i attended! awesome, or as you say: "fire"! thanks for your reaction!
First time I heard it I thought "oh this is another level". Not just the vocals, but the whole production angle and vibe. In a top 10 of the 90s, this has to be up there. Another track by them "Teardrop"... whole other feeling going on there, but again heartbreaking vocals and that trip hop beat.
The video was on MTV Europe all the time, released in 1991 I think. I knew nothing of the song or the band when I first heard it but something was telling me it had to be British, despite the urban U.S. setting. I wasn't a big fan of trip hop but Unfinished Sympathy is certainly a vibe and apparently a pioneering important classic of sorts.
A glorious trio of records, Blue Lines (1991), Protection (1994), and Mezzanine (1998). I love 100th Window also (2003). which went in a different and more depressing direction.
I can easily say this was one of the best songs and videos of the 90s! 😎 It makes me feel so nostalgic (and sad in a way)....because times have changed so much since then. The singer Shara always reminds me of a young Aretha Franklin. Great vocalist! They’re a UK group by the way. 😀
wow 1991 good guess, I had to look it up cause I couldn't remember. one of those atmospheric songs that takes you somewhere, cool gritty video as well.
In 1991 it was the first time I heard of the term trip hop but didn't think too much about it aged 12. This track moves everyone it's fire. Back in the day it didn't really fit into any genre it was pure like your reaction.
What's interesting is that Neneh Cherry (Buffalo Stance) is really good friends with Massive Attack and UNKLE. Massive Attack use to crash on her couch and she kept pressing them to get on the ball and record. Portishead and UNKLE are sublime.
Ah, 90's and trip hop. This song honestly depresses me. The first time I heard it was minutes after I found out I was cheated on the first time. The lyrics felt all too relatable LOL
It's a very cool track, it was featured in a movie called "Sliver" with William Baldwin and Sharon Stone about control and voyeurism, the song and the movie were a rather risque departure from the norm.
I would place Sliver in the half dozen worst films I've ever sat through. If this song was featured in it, it will undoubtedly have been the highlight.
@@TheoZoffrok I actually went out and bought the album after I saw the movie because I couldn't get it out of my head. It wasn't the best movie, but i ain't gonna lie, William Baldwin was sexy af, Three of the four Baldwins had it goung on.
Genius tune even down to the title…it has strings throughout the song and the lyrics are about lost/unfinished love I guess..mix the two you get unfinished sympathy 👍 You described the song style perfectly and also correct about when the song came out 👏
One continuous shot. Brilliant. They did another continuous stream video equally brilliant but done through layered effects (link below). I'm pretty sure the father and daughter in that video is the same one that follows Sharon down the street for awhile. th-cam.com/video/Epgo8ixX6Wo/w-d-xo.html
BIG CLASSIC / LEGENDARY / * ONE OF THE FORERUNDER GROUPS OF THE TRIP HOP MOVEMENT IN ENGLAND / * SHARA NELSON'S VOICE IS UNIQUE AND INCREDIBLE, A GODDESS / 90'S FLAVA / OLD SCHOOL REPRESENT / F*CK NEW SKOOL
Bop….this was so fresh and mature…….. It was like who is this. Massive Attack are one of my all time favourite bands. Didn’t they hang with Neneh Cherry during this first album?

A lot of people say this is one of the greatest tracks of the 1990s. I don't agree. It's okay, but for me it's nothing particularly special. That's just my opinion.

You definitely have excellent taste. Daydreaming is also fantastic.
One of the greatest song ever written , pure masterpiece
"The curiousness of your potential kiss has got my mind and body aching" Uff, what a bar...
💯💯
They sold the only car they had between them to pay for the full live strings orchestra recording at Abbey Road.
Massive Attack is dope 👍. Can you believe that this tune is already 30 years old? 😮 It sounds like it was produced last year.
Massive Attack - Be Thankful For What You’ve Got

Song was cool. I think that you are right about when the song was made. I can tell because of her hairstyle.
😂😂
Madonna worked with Massive Attack in 1995, so that's something to look forwad to.
Ooo can't ‼️

My favourite song of all time lady!
🔥
Love the song. And the video was done in one take. They also did a song called Teardrop which became the show opening song for “House” on FOX.
You’ll hear this 100 times.
Madonna did a song with Massive Attack. It’s called I Want You. Beautiful song and beautiful video
