I'll be watching this one more than once. Thank you! I'm not quite beginner on Blender, but brand new on Blender video editing, trying to link about two decades of camera video clips together into longer pieces. Your tips are very different from the first two videos that I watched, and some of them are more to the point for what I'm trying to do.
Love it for basic video editing and I’m trying to use it for all my video editing, so these are some great tips on my quest. Main issue I still have is incorporating motion graphics in the video (for example an overlay) with any realistic rendering speed. I can do these things with premiere/after effects really fast, so I’m sure there’s a way…exploration continues. Thanks. 🖤🤙🏽 🎥
@@ItsWesSmithYo I typically use scene strips for that and set them to display "material" preview. It can be pretty resource intensive though (realtime rendering a 3D scene vs a 2D comp in Adobe).
New to making TH-cam and Blender. Love the video, I prob have to watch it a few times and play around with Blender to get it. My thing is I am trying to add intro music to my videos, just have not been able to get that going. Sad thing is I have been in IT for 23 years, but ugh Linux is hard since I am hardware. I want to learn python, smh its very intense. Anyway, love the knowledge you are sharing brother, keep it up and I have subscribed.
@@LinuxCreative Thank you as well. I will pass along to anybody wanting to learn Blender. Porb the best I have seen because its real. Dont give up on your channel, you have a gift.
I tried using blender for video editing, but i didn't like how it detaches the audio from the clip, I didn't like having to select both the video and audio tracks to move them around. Has anything changed regarding that, or was I doing it wrong?🤔 I only go there for minor animation or designing. Thank you for this video, it's great!
This is still how it behaves. I think there might be an add on that fixes this: maybe Power Sequencer? If not there should be and maybe I'll work on it! I should do a deep dive on my editing process. There's just so much I want to share!
For tip #6, Pin Scene....I'm trying to understand the usage of the Layout tab in conjunction with the Video Editor? Why are you using the Layout tab? Can the 3D space be used/referenced in the Video Editor somehow? Or vice versa?
@@icbfan7 Hi there! Thanks for watching. The short answer is yes! I often use the layout workspace to craft a "2D" animation using grease pencil or the like, then reference this scene in a scene strip in the VSE. This is how I create motion graphics (lines, circles, text, etc) to highlight things in my video edits. I should probably detail this workflow in a future video. Hopefully this helps!
i love blender and the updates for vse, but after using resolve i really can't turn back to it unless they add gpu acceleration. such a pain it exist on 3d rendering but not on vse 😔
Long time Linux and Blender user here. I just found your cool channel. Do you plan to talk about AI audio tools on Linux too? I wish to explore AI tools on Linux lately, but there are many already available and not all that useful and easy to install i guess..
Thanks for elaborating on Blender. I too am using Arch Linux and felt that there was no alternative solution to a video editor like FCP, which motivated me to give blender a try. what about Inkscape, is there any point in suggesting it in the context of Linux?
its unfortunate that seemingly no addon devs think this is worth adding to, its a nice simple editor but it lacks some basic features, like for example, no support for a video with transparency, it just doesn't read the transparent channel and renders it as black
It's unfortunate that there hasn't been more progress there, but it's been my experience that the core Blender team has always been more interested in 3D features, and video editing is kind of second class.

@@LinuxCreative Thank you, I just tried it. The blend setup is really nice as you have it, very workable. The only problem is that Blender doesn't playback properly. On my laptop, the 1080p h.264 8bit file plays back at 3 fps. The file plays back properly (even without hardware acceleration) on Openshot, Shotcut and Kdenlive.
I believe blender requires that you enable proxies and memory limits / prefetching frames instead of providing reasonable defaults. I believe these are all available in preferences, but can't quite remember and I'm away from my computer.

This is SO helpful. Its been years and i still have a lack of intuition with vido editing on here. Even after creating some things on it.
I hear ya! It can be a little difficult to "think in Blender" when it comes to editing.
Thanks from Japan, great overview!

I never knew blender could edit video. That's kinda wild
It does a pretty excellent job as a NLVE even!

Nice video! Been a LONG time since I used blender full time as an NLE. It's clearly come a long way

Don’t. Use Davinci resolve or kdenlive if your a purist
😂 This is a video about Blender!
Davinch Resolve is paid software except for a free version with limited functionality.
Blender is completely free and open source.
@@resistan-y1h there’s so many ways to go over those restrictions though
Blender’s vst is underdeveloped you can’t even reverse audio
