    The nurse in me loves how you made mom comfortable. The mom in me loves that you told her could happen again and that it's common. I'm sure she felt terrible and you eased that feeling. Great video as always! ❤

      @@lmellick your welcome, however the thanks should be for you. As I'm sure you know many times we in the healthcare field can jump to the wrong conclusion when it comes to this particular type of childhood injury. You hit it out of the park when you allowed mom to tell her story and then validated that story with very clear explanation of how and why it happens. Keep up your excellent way of educating everyone.

    My son had this twice while he as a baby. Dr had us hold his elbow in my palm, turn his hand around, palm open and push back towards his body. Something to that effect. Been 18 years now but it worked both times. He was in so much pain you couldn't even touch his arm.

      Same thing here, my middle daughter had it happen. Took her to ER and the Dr told me the same thing. Showed me how to pop it back in place. And told me to get used to it, because she had a classic case. And I would be making a lot of ER Visits if I didn't learn how to pop it back in. Bless her heart I hated doing it. But I got it done.

    This definitely works! It’s currently 3:30am and I had to relieve my 3 year old of this. She had it before at 18 months when she was trying to run towards the street. The doctors told us it could easily happen again and it did in the middle of the night. She and her brother crawled into bed and were taking over our bed. I went to shift her and couldn’t find her arm. So in a panic I reach for her arm with a slight pull and heard the pop followed by her cries. She’s all better with range of motion watching Encanto!

    • @laurachapin204
      @laurachapin204 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely! This happened to my son when he was two. My daughter was four at the time and yanked him out of their playhouse by his left hand. I was sure it was nursemaid's elbow but didn't know how to reduce it. We lived out in the boonies so it was a forty five minute ride to the ER. Fortunately, I watched what the Dr did. A couple weeks later, we were at an amusement park. My son was in a ball pit and my mother lifted him out by his hands from above. Couldn't yell out fas t enough not to do that. My son cried and my mother felt horrible. But I remembered the simple moves and popped it right back in. He went right back to playing! No parent should feel bad about this. It's common and nobody's fault.

    Actually you can just leave it as it is. Our prof told us it might actually fix itself when child sleeps and rolls over

      That is not good advice. What you’re saying is that you should leave the child in pain and hope that it will correct itself. How do you know that the child will actually do that?

      @@lmellick actually i was told this as well, in children under 4 its not uncommong they will fix it during there sleep. During the day they wont move their arm but at night they will roll and twist the arm back in. She didnt actually recommend this, it was more just talk about the subject. Obviously we didn't wait since we were already at the clinic.

    The other thing that works well
    Is don't pull your child's because you're upset or frustrated

      As I'm sure this happens for this reason, it can happen for others as well. I pulled my child elbow at 2.5 years just having him sit up to change his shirt. Best not to make assumptions.

      @robkwit I didn't say that was why this happened
      I just was adding some advice.
      It can happen during play too
