I wasn't going to pen this but here goes. I listened to this song for almost four straight days in December 1998 when I lost my first wife to cancer. I was Roan. I cried incessantly. But just like Roan in the song this was catharsis for me. I was able to pull through in large part from this song. Such is the magic of Yes music. It is now 2021 and I can remember those days in 1998 like they were yesterday. And sad thoughts have been replaced by fond parts and meaning, just like in the song. Cheers.
When I saw this tour at the LA Forum, I felt like a metaphysical nerve ending and when they played And You & I, during Steve Howe's steel peddle segment I started crying and couldn't hold it back. That freaked me out @ 17 years old never experiencing emotions that way... Then I felt someone shove my shoulder and turning around to see who was some kid, my age with a big smile, He said "Yes!" and gave me a dude hug. I wasn't embarrassed anymore and that became my clearest memory of that night all those many years ago. Peace
It’s the reason that GFTO has started going up in my favorite Yes albums list. This song resonated for me today because I remembered my old black lab that I unfortunately had to put down and this song just connected with me and I just started crying.
Sarah Fields, I know Exactly what you mean; I was doing just that when I read your comment. At Least *half* the times I hear this song, when they sing in harmony (after 3:40 here): "I'm sure we know_____.," I practically sob. It's almost blasphemy to call this "Rock & Roll," isn't it?
We will both remember all those many years ago... I was fortunate to be an avid Yes fan in my adolesent teen years, and as I watch this video now 43 years later my only thought is that of affirmation in recognizing the magnetude of spiritual truth and blessing everwas with this, the best Yes lineup. Man, I had good taste in music.
It has slipped up in my top 2 as time has gone on. Relayer was my #1, but GFTO became my #1 and Relayer is my #2 now. They are both incredible albums. CTTE is my 3rd favorite Yes album.
TURN OF... In Ovid's narrative poem Metamorphoses, X, Pygmalion was a sculptor who fell in love with a statue he had carved. The Yes lyrics (1977) tells the story of the sculptor Roan who, in the grief of his wife's death, "molds his passion into clay." The sculpture of his wife comes to life and they fall in love. For the poetry gifts and habilities of Jon Anderson, we can hear this myth renewed, in this very beautiful song, both music and lirically. I love it. Greetings from Rio de Janeiro.
The most memorable part of a Yesshow was Starship Trooper the second night in San Diego in 1984. including the fact that I was more stoned than I have ever been during that unbelievable but very real performance. Wurm: the bass solo.
Wow...I caught this tour. THIS Is the best lineup and the one I grew up on. THIS is the YES I know and LOVE... Steve Howe NEEDS to be there...as does Wakeman and White. In my humble opinion anyway... Beautiful band, beautiful song from the highly underrated Going For the One album... Those were the days...
I just posted this on my Facebook feed. Straight after a picture of Mike Rutherford playing the double neck Rickenbacker from 1973. I can guarantee that all my FB "friends" will not thumbs them up - but fuck them! I put them there for me.😂
This is a mixture of a Rock Ballad with a bit of Rock n Roll music to Boot for those who can see my meaning and interpretation of this Beautifully Crafted Masterpiece ! I Have Completely Loved This Song ever since I first heard it many years Ago ! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Oh wow wow wow, this is an unbelievable gem, Yes at their peak performing one of their most intricate compositions here on the Going for the One tour, which I have wanted to hear footage of for decades. Thanks to whomever put this together cleaned up! Bravo
Steve showed more guitar technique and volume pedal skill in the final minute, then all the double hammer-on solos I ever heard of combined. Or at least that's my opine.
Going for the One is the eighth studio album from the English progressive rock band Yes, released on 7 July 1977 on Atlantic Records. Release date: July 7, 1977 Label: Atlantic Records
I was gifted this album for my eighteenth birthday and will always hold a dear place in my heart. TOTC is still one of my faves even after 40+ years of listening to this god given music
Yes, like The Who, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Renaissance, ELP, Traffic, The Doors, Jeff Beck, Genesis, King Crimson, Pink Floyd and Jethro Tull, were always great at reproducing and, at times, surpassing their studio recordings. This is obviously an indication of true dedication and genuine musicianship. We will probably never see their like again in, as the great Steve Howe used to say, "the rock field."
Saw the GFTO tour at Wembley that year. It remains to the day, the greatest concert that I've ever seen. Sadly I've never seen them play Turn of The Century live again, with Awaken, the two finest pieces from Going For The One.
This is the most amazing and gorgeous song I've ever heard. Not for this, I'm doing a top twenty with yes songs starting with in no particular order, Siberian katru , Awaken, and Close to the edge. Such an amazing creation and orchestration this work is !! Glad to be a member of the species, is the visceral gift here. Thank you.
thank you for this, very important footage. I have a chapter on this show - the first time I saw Yes, in my upcoming book - anyone out there who took photos, I will be licensing some for the publication (self-pub)
My pleasure Doug. Not sure if you remember our correspondence back in October of 2006 but you are one of my very first customers (maybe even the first!) when Genesis Six Hours Live was first released.
Ha! Very nice! I've gotten so many great titles from Tommygun now. I'm working now on a book which will present prog/classic rock concerts past/present, as I've seen nearly every band in the last few years, that I had seen from 75-80! Looking for photos from those earlier shows is awful though - I might end up using snaps of footage!
by the way I will write you a note - I need to re-purchase disc 1 of the Yes Relayer tour - the disk got some kind of substance on it (no jokes!) and won't play anymore
Would love to see Anderson and Hackett together on stage performing masterpieces with that brilliant guitarist from Todmobile. Preferably in UK - it's a long way to Iceland.
Thank You. I've always remembered how, unlike the LP (and it was a 12 inch record), Steve did the ending on an electric guitar that sounded like a violin.
Thank you Mr. Weaver, and if you're familiar w/this concert you'll notice those extremely annoying audio dropouts have been removed so now everyone can enjoy this entire concert uninterrupted. In my opinion, as wonderful and under rated a show/performance this is it was unwatchable with the persistent audio dropouts. That is now in the past :-)
This is the quietest and most present I've ever heard a Glasgow or Scottish audience. Imagine playing that incredibly you get us glaswegians to pin drop silence 🤣. Love this, not a massive fan of some prog rock, but this is just beautiful and another level! ♥️
Thanks for posting this....I was fortunate enough to go to all 3 nights of this tour in glasgow, this was Yes at their absolute peak. The place was totally jammed on these nights.I also went to Ritchie Blackmore!s rainbow with Van Halen as guest on the night before Yes's 3 gigs but could in no way measure up!
Turn of the Century was one of the Yes songs that remind me of Middle Earth. Of a forgotten tale from Tolkien's First or Second Age, as depicted in The Silmarillion.
I am moved to tears listening to Turn of the Century. My God it touches the heart of life.
Me as well
Exactly how I feel about this beautiful song, touches my heart like no other..and yes, tears well up in me
Interesting, this song makes me want to dance.
Your not alone!!!
My thoughts also..for sure! Heavenly!😊🙏🎁❤

IMHO, the most beautiful song Yes ever wrote.
It’s the reason that GFTO has started going up in my favorite Yes albums list. This song resonated for me today because I remembered my old black lab that I unfortunately had to put down and this song just connected with me and I just started crying.
agreed.
I disagree, The most beautiful song EVER written !
Music that could make God cry with joy. Either you get it or you don't.
well said. So Amazing. So beautifully done by the entire band.

Music that makes me cry.....one of my top fave YES songs
@@carriontorch8564 this is not rock and roll, where did you see that? this is prog rock
Yes is the best live band ever!
Absolutely seen them 58 times need more
RIP Alan White, a wonderful song that Alan co-wrote, and an amazing live performance here.
Alan White morreu ?
Oh, I did not know Alan White co-wrote this song.

The amount of musical genius on stage there is unmeasurable.

😀
YES you did.
The most beautifull song Yes has ever put out
they pulled this off LIVE, that was amazing,we can enjoy this the rest of our short time under the Sun.
'Going For The One' is one of my favorite albums by Yes.
Same here. For me that and CTTE. Personal taste of course. Ibwould love to have seen them in 1977. Special time.
It has slipped up in my top 2 as time has gone on. Relayer was my #1, but GFTO became my #1 and Relayer is my #2 now. They are both incredible albums. CTTE is my 3rd favorite Yes album.
This is misunderstood how brilliant it is. One I my favorite reasons it's in my my top 10 best songs ALL TIME!

@The Fine Black Harm Bro what? You ever read the lyrics to Gates of Delirium?
🙏🍁
This era will never come back, as I regret not having seen this lineup live, they are incredible.
I remember this Tour... Very young was I...very high was I... Very Yes was Yes
Victor Farias Bless you
The most memorable part of a Yesshow was Starship Trooper the second night in San Diego in 1984. including the fact that I was more stoned than I have ever been during that unbelievable but very real performance. Wurm: the bass solo.
Memories of Bingley Hall, Nov 77 and the state of the art - for then - laser displays.
Wow...I caught this tour.
THIS Is the best lineup and the one I grew up on.
THIS is the YES I know and LOVE...
Steve Howe NEEDS to be there...as does Wakeman and White.

So true ❤❤
R. I. P Alan. You made my life better with your music. Thank you
OUFFFF.... PERFECT PERFORMENCE .. another tears for me ...
One of their best songs they ever done!!! Very powerful and Steve Howe is brilliant. Wow.
I caught them on this tour in Philadelphia. One of the greatest moments of my life.
Gut-wrenchingly beautiful. Jon's voice is incredible. This is a song that needs to live on forever.
This is what makes this song so beautiful - it does not NEED to live on forever - it DOES live on forever.
The electric ending is amazing.
That's howe you use a volume pedal
Could you imagine having a DVD of this entire show with the audio and video quality of the 2001 Symphonic Tour DVD? Maybe in another life...
If only...... aahhhhh, what bliss that would be. But I’m fortunate to have been able to see this tour in ‘77.
This song reaches deep into my soul.
This is the best love song ever made. Period
I just posted this on my Facebook feed. Straight after a picture of Mike Rutherford playing the double neck Rickenbacker from 1973. I can guarantee that all my FB "friends" will not thumbs them up - but fuck them! I put them there for me.😂
Saw a show on this tour - 1977 Oakland Colosseum Arena. They wore the same costumes with the same stage props. It was utterly sublime.
...that ending is so beautiful!

The definition of talent
I saw this show in Holland in 1977. Going for the one tour. Best I ever saw of them. And I've seen them about 10 times. Best line up also.
Great track great vocals awesome guitar solo YES at their BEST
when musical chemistry happens = perfection
what a great tune, that whole album was great,by along shot
Unbleeping believable....I'm speechless.
Beautiful. Anderson's voice seemed to get better and better through the '70s.
Fantastic band. Great song.
Saw this tour a few months earlier in Chicago as a fourteen year old. Blew my mind and literally altered the course of my life.
Such an amazing tune that exemplifies what healing power and joy music brings those who simply invite it in
When a song gets as magical as possible ...🎆🦋
At Apollo Glasgow I was there outstanding show
I love how they are REALLY live here.
So beautiful, otherworldly, innermost and outstretched
i overlooked this song for many years until last year -- it is magic.
Yup. Saw this and this show in '77 in freakin Milwaukee, WI. This song is in my top 3 of all time favorite pieces of music.
Oh wow wow wow, this is an unbelievable gem, Yes at their peak performing one of their most intricate compositions here on the Going for the One tour, which I have wanted to hear footage of for decades. Thanks to whomever put this together cleaned up! Bravo
Still brilliant after all of this time, what a masterpiece.
Beautiful, just what you would expect from Yes. Thank you for the video
Saw them when i was 14 in London on 27,10,77 & my first ever Yes concert & gig.
The only time I can remember Chris playing the Les Paul Recording Bass. He needed that high E.
Brilliant rendition. I was lucky enough to be at the Stafford show that year. Yes at the absolute top of their game. Awesome!
Steve showed more guitar technique and volume pedal skill in the final minute, then all the double hammer-on solos I ever heard of combined.
Or at least that's my opine.

I'd scratch king crimson, their only good album is in the court of the crimson king imo
...and Van der Graaf Generator...!!!!
Will always say the great ones reproduce their music live better than the studio version and Yes was definitely best at it

This quality is astonishing. I've said it before, but I'll say it again: THANKS....
Breath taking....Xxxxxxxxx
I saw this tour in Milwaukee, and it was an amazing show. The end of Awaken, especially, was quite strong :-)
I love the tuned percussion on this and Steve's electric guitar solo at the end, just to change things up a bit.
Ah mais merci 🙂 ils étaient comme ça lorsque je les ai vus pour la première, deuxième ou troisième fois ces merveilles d hommes. Que du bonheur ❤️
