One thing I think that should be kept in mind while watching Death Note is that, no matter how smart anyone is, they are always going to be at a handicap because the death note is a supernatural thing. And no normal person is going to come to that conclusion while trying to figure everything out.

Just because he lost against him- L, no natter how smart he is, is still at a disadvantage against the Death Note as it is of supernatural property, meaning it's illogical on its own, and L is a person of logic.
But it's a high school student with a Death note vs Detectives with a lot of power and experience and access to everything
@@AyaAyyoo I think without Death Note, Light would lose to L. Without Death Note, Light would be just a very smart/genius high schooler while L's 7 yrs older than him, It wouldn't change a fact that L is also a genius. I mean, he became legend in his field in his 20's.
If it's a battle of intelligence/IQ, I think L is much more smarter than Light. He is a genius. Light just got lucky because he got the Death Note, a supernatural thing thus it became the biggest variable in L's invistigation.
One thing that blew mme away when I started getting into anime and manga more seriously, is that there are not "writers" for these series. There is almost always a singular shut-in squatting on the floor of a messy studio, pouring everything they have into making their own stories and desperately hoping one of them gets picked up by a publisher.
Death note was entirely written by Tsugumi Ohba.
Yes, most of the times there's only one mastermind behind the manga story - mangaka. Mangaka singlehandedly writes story and draws comics. If mangaka already is popular enough, they will have assistants who will, for example, only draw noses on characters' faces, or draw backgrounds (by hand or using presets), or do shades on lineart. But, generally, manga is written and illustrated by one person with or without additional help.
BUT Death Note was written by Tsugumi Oba AND illustrated by Takeshi Obata. So Death Note is a rare case when author and illustrator/artist are not the same person. None of them are mangaka in its strict meaning. They are the team of writer and illustrator.
Sorry if this sounds condescending, it wasn't my intention. I know that you ment that there's only one writer. Just wanted to point out that he is not the only person behind this specific manga.

What's doubly interesting was that after Death Note, they both went on and wrote Bakuman and the story was exactly about that. Two high school students creating a manga where one of them is the ilustrator while the other was the writer. 🤯
@@iczzephyryes, in bakuman we saw two people working on one manga. I wonder if it’s as common as I think or if it’s really a very small percentage that work this way. Since most of the time it’s just one person working on it all. When I think of all the shows I watched and manga I read it’s always one mangaka‘s name that pops up. Though, there is this new romance show called A Sign of Affection that just got its adaptation. I read the manga (ongoing) and I fell in love with it because it’s that good. I recommend it to people in their 20‘s since both protagonists are college students and pretty mature. Apparently, it’s two female best friends working on it together (makes total sense, you can tell).. so it must be more common than we think? But we probably just never read a second name as a creator because the actual artists are only considered the mangaka’s. Or it’s just an unwritten rule.
@@PeyloBeauty I don't think it's common though. Just read/watch Bakuman, they're the only duo mangaka in the story.
But, I do know a few where the artist and story are different ppl. The most notable artist is probably Yusuke Murata. He draws for Eyeshield 21 and One Punch Man but the stories are by Riichiro Inagaki and ONE respectively.
The solution you made for the subtitles is very impressive! Higher contrast so only the text shows, plus layering it so it feels very natural. On top of the editing, I really appreciate the deep-dives into every detail. Great work!

You were both right. The number of violent crimes went down because of criminals being afraid but also because most violent criminals are re-ofenders, very few ones only do it once. So, if they are dead, they can't do it again.. as simple as that lol.

I watched you guys channel for the first time on the Death Note EP2 video and i gotta say that this might be might favorite anime reaction series, the way y'all break it down and actually try to absorb every bit of information is so cool and will make your experience with Death Note even more enjoyable because of how detailed this anime really is (i'm also checking the other contents on the channel and it's full of bangers 🔥)

If you guys are fans of music, Death Note had an English album made for a musical. "Honor Bound" is a very good song sung by Light's father on how he feels about L's accusations.
That would've been so amazing if matsuda was the one following light, but makes no sense because they have to investigate a ton of people at this point, including light

I remember reacting the same way when I found out about Light's dad. I was reading the manga (comic book) though. I was totally stunned.
The script for this show is full of twists and turns. It's so hard to predict what's going to happen. They show us what they want and they hide the twists and then smack us with them when it's time. I'm so engaged with your discussions and predictions.

I think this could be seen in the previous episodes as well but in this one it becomes crystal clear - Light doesn't really care about the criminals anymore. He's not killing them because he researched them and their crime, confirmed that they weren't falsely accused or anything, and killed them because he judged their sins to be too great. He's just killing random criminals who are already in prison and wouldn't be harming society for a while anyway, and he's just using them as tools. He's not killing them to make the world better, they've become mere tools in his fight against L, that's all they are to him anymore. He uses the criminals for his actual goal, which is to catch and kill L. The criminals aren't in the center anymore, if they ever even were, because if you remember, even with his first victim he was just looking for an excuse to try the Death Note and he happened to see that criminal on TV who was perfect for this purpose. Honestly, I'd argue that the focus was never actually on ridding the world of bad people but rather on Light's own selfish goals and as a way to cure his boredom. But of course there are many very different opinions about Light's character, and this is just my own take on it.
Episode 3 isn't out and I already cant wait for episode 4 😅 watching this with you is such a treat in this sea of boring reactions!

As a matter of fact, you CAN put someone in "double check". The condition is called "discovered check" or "discovered checkmate", where one piece directly threatens the King, but one, several, or all of that side's pieces' possible paths of interception open the King up to another direct check. For example, White's Rook moves to the back row in the Queen's Knight file with a direct, clear line to Black's King, and Black's Bishop can capture the Rook and end the check, but right behind it is White's Queen with a direct line to the Black King. Black cannot move his Bishop, or White's Queen "discovers" her check - hence the name.
The cinematography and lighting is one of the things I found fascinating in this show too. Some are hit or miss tbh, and some are showing their age in terms of animation, but here's an example:
The first time we find out that Light's dad is the chief, Light is standing at the doorway, everything is dark except his back, his front is covered by a thick shadow, meanwhile his dad is barely even lit. Light's even standing above him.
It signifies that Light is the only one currently in the know about their power dynamic, but the heavy downcast shadow shows he's keeping a facade, while his Dad's in the dark and is just beginning to pick up hints about who Kira is.

One of my fav Anime show. I even dressed as Misha at my first time at Boston Anime back in 2014 I think it was. I also was pleasantly surprised that the Japanese live action version of this show was pretty good as well. When I found out that the actor, Alessandro Juliani was the voice actor and plays my favorite character, L. I enjoyed it even more. I first saw him on the CW show, Smallville back in Highschool and I liked everything he been in since. If u guys haven't seen XHolic or Black Butler/Japanese live action version too is also a good watch. I enjoyed these too.

I never took Ryuk telling Light about the eyes as a power play, he's simply doing it because it's fun. He's got no leg in this race, he doesn't care who wins between the two, he just wants to be entertained by these interesting humans.
He might get some more lifespan.

This is a great anime. It does own unique flavour so if you watch other amines, just know many have similar themes humour fan service etc that this show doesn't have. Its not a bad thing at all but death note was a bit of a phenomena when it came out with multiple demographics. Love the twists and turns. Fun video, i like your style of analysis. keep it up guys :)

Just a few things in general i wanna tell you guys about watching anime.
1. Shows like death note has a lot of stuff going on,so no need to rush. Watch it at your own pace
2. Many people watch multiple animes at once(maximum 3 is enough),but thats not good imo,it is better to finish one and then move on to the other(especially for anime starters like you guys)
3. Beware of spoilers,it is really easy to get spoiled so be careful

if you guys studied sociology and psychology, stuff like attack on titan or mecha series like code geass or gundam will be right up you guys alley. A lot of people also compare attack on titan to be around the same level as breaking bad. Death Note though is a really good start to anime with the "genius main character" trope

"Frieren: After Journeys End" is an anime from fall 2023 which is amazing and is currently ranking top of anime lists.
Synopsis: A classical adventuring party (Elven Mage, Human Knight, Dwarf Warrior, Human Priest) have finished saving the world after a ten year quest. You join them after that has happened and follow Frieren the Elven Mage.
Frieren's elven nature grants her an extremely long lifespan, causing her to view periods of years or decades as ephemeral (this perception of time makes her consider the ten-year adventure with the party a fleeting experience, more akin to an elevator ride with strangers who you make small talk with. However, it defines their lives and the society around them as the four are heros who saved the world. The plot kicks off with Frieren noting that the meteor shower they are watching at the celebration thrown in their honor is being viewed from a bad location (the city), and she promises to take them to see it in a better one next time... in fifty years. The group then go their separate ways.
If you enjoy philosophical and psychological shows, that one has an awful lot going for it. Less of a thriller and more an exploration of friendships, time, and so on.

You guys, please keep the videos short. One hour long video for an 18 minute episode is really just crazy. Also, increase the opacity of the episode window pls my eyes can't take it, otherwise just watch the dub its just as good if not better.
