I saw Elvis at the Forum in 74’ when I was 17 years old. A friend had bought tickets for her mom to see him, but her mom was ill that night so I went in her place . At the time I wasn’t really an Elvis fan, I had just tagged along for something to do. That one night changed all that. He had such a presence. I will never forget the contagious sense of energy in that audience, it’s not something I can even describe. Whenever I hear his music now, the feeling of seeing him live comes right back. I am forever grateful for the experience.
I never knew Elvis had that much influence on Robert Plant and John Lennon that’s really beautiful so special and amazing. The world was blessed with Elvis.

I was fortunate enough to stand on stage with him in the 70's singing backup as a member of The Stamps Quartet. Loved him and loved singing with him. Such wonderful memories.

Wow....that last bit when Robert said Elvis ducked his head around the corner to sing to him and they sang to each other, Robert got so choked up with tears like a child meeting his idol again. Just amazing to watch this.

Visited Robert Plants house once, Such a lovely warm down to earth guy, I noticed in the bathroom on the wall there was a framed sheet of A4 paper with the words 'To Robert from a fool such as I..... love your friend Elvis Presley' such a beautiful thing to have & treasure!
I more than anything relate it to that Robert actually acknowledging that his big idol was living his later years. I have that uncanny feeling that Robert knew that Elvis would not be around too long. That he had served his purpose (if you wanna go religious). But I very much feel that Plant sensed that this ultimate legend of the birth of Rock and Roll was about to fade away...giving others the torch to carry on.

It's a talent, sure, but you can be a great performer and still be influential. Frank Sinatra didn't write his songs, neither did Whitney Houston but they were terrific performers with tremendous impact.

When Zeppelin met Elvis, they were literally the biggest band in the world, bigger than The Stones. At that time, they had finished up recording Physical Graffiti and had already revolutionized the rock touring industry, but even they were reduced to awestruck fans. The Beatles also pushed for and finally got to meet Elvis; when they finally met him, they were in awkward silence, they were in complete awe of him. Elvis was the one to break the silence by telling them "if you guys are just going to sit there and stare at me, I'm going to bed". And Robert Plant has a different view of "mega success" than most other people. After Led Zeppelin's O2 concert almost 10 years ago, they got offers for a tour, one of them would have made them the first billion dollar concert tour, and Plant was the one that walked away from it, much to the chagrin of Page, Jones, and Bonham's son Jason. Plant has always been true to his own inner integrity, and of course is very complimentary to his influences. And besides, we're talking about ELVIS. The only other person higher on the singer totem pole was Frank Sinatra.
And spontaneously... so cool. Elvis waited til the moment pushed him over the top & I can imagine the confidence he finally gathered2 turn2 Robert & sing some lines2 him. Had2 be awesome. I bet Plant got even more confidence after that. It's a real nod from one Giant to another
I met Elvis when I was four, and he was SO nice! I fell in love with him that night. His voice was AMAZING and sent chills through my body. He put me on stage and asked me several questions. I asked if I could read his playlist, and Elvis asked, “You can read?” I told him my mom put me in front of the television all day and I watched Sesame Street and various other educational shows. My mother was so embarrassed! He allowed me to choose three songs and he said he’d play them all consecutively. I chose In the Ghetto, I Can’t Help Falling in Love, and A Little Less Conversation. I was still sitting atop the stage when Elvis asked if I knew what the last song meant. I said, “It means the man wants the woman to shut up and he wants more sex!” My mother was so humiliated that her face was bright red! Elvis told my parents, “Y’all are gonna have trouble with her. This little lady’s too smart!” My Daddy and Elvis became close friends in Germany whilst in the Army. I was only able to attend one show, but my parents attended several. It was a fun night for me as we went backstage before the show and even the band and backup singers were wonderful. Elvis was nervous and I asked him why. He said, “I’m afraid they ain’t gonna like me.” He told me he was nervous before every show. I told him that everyone loved him. He kissed me on the cheek when I told him that, but I meant it. I was devastated when he died. My parents attended his funeral but wouldn’t allow me to go with them. Elvis may be gone, but he’ll NEVER die. I’ll never forget the gorgeous man with the great sense of humor and the voice that will never be emulated.

The biggest stars all fell under the spell of Elvis. Every time you hear a story by someone who actually met him, see how their eyes light up telling the story. Elvis had the abillity to make people feel as though they had known him for years, after spending five minutes with him. Plant is visibly moved during the Letterman interview, and who can blame him? He was one of the lucky ones who got to spend time with a phenomenon, who NEVER ever thought he was bigger or better than anyone else.
Just the people who saw Elvis in concert...but never met him....post all over social media and rave about the event having left them positively affected for the rest of their lives. Almost like a spiritual or religious experience. It must have been incredible. In the sixties and seventies, I was too young to truly appreciate his impact on secular music in specific and on 20th century popular culture in general.
Elvis was in a level that most famous A list stars just hope to one day meet their idols. Elvis could write a note and a person could walk up to the Whitejouse and say I have a message from Elvis and yes the Elvis and the note would be in the Presidents hand and the next day he would get a meetimg with Nixon. Elvis set that type of fame... EP could open any door and walk in no wait or time limit... they made time serve him...
I have to admit, I did tear up a bit at the thought of Elvis and Robert Plant singing to each other. Sometimes meeting your heroes can be an overwhelming experience. So happy to hear Robert talk about how good Elvis really was.

Elvis set a precedent that paved the way for the late 60s to early 80s rock scene. Whether you consider him the greatest artist of all time or not, theres no denying that whoever you DO consider is the greatest wouldn't be here were it not for the King.

I saw Elvis up close and personal in '69 Vegas, and thereafter until Dec '76. You have NO IDEA of the magnetism of this man until you see it for real. It is indescribable. It was that strong. Never saw anything like that ever in my life.
What made Elvis so unique and special is how he bridged the gap between the crooners of the 1940's (like Bing Crosby) and the straight-ahead rockers of the 1950's (Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, etc.). He was in the right place at the right time, and such a special talent.
Pat Boone ripped off artists, Elvis had a deep & abiding love for Gospel & R&B. Even though I can count his so-called rock songs on one hand! LOL! Whereas Chuck Berry had consistently written gritty rockers. No other artist of his day had as many homages to rock 'n' roll, be it in lyrics or titles. His two string leads and pull-offs have been copied by every rock guitarist since. From The Stones to The Sex Pistols, Berry had more of an influence on rock music than Elvis. He spent the better half of his life singing ballads to blue-haired grannies in Vegas. LOL!

I was a small child when my grandmother and my parents took me to see Elvis in concert. He died on my 12th birthday. Robert Plant is my favorite singer and I have gotten to see him on his solo tour and then with Jimmy Page.
I was 7 living in Australia and I cried my heart out, I still do till this day when I hear his voice. I raised my children to love him as much as I do❤️

Robert always gives great interviews. Elvis was my home state man! I think everyone loved Elvis because of his genuine, sweet, and warm personality. In his 1968 t.v. special, when he was dressed in all black leather, with jet black hair, he had to be THE most beautiful man on earth! He kept his fabulous voice until he died. I think about if his twin had lived, would he have been an entertainer too.
Elvis' influence on popular music is immutable. The man made such a mark on popular music that the reverberations of his influence on the genre are still felt today. He is still referenced, still talked about, still inspiring musicians. It is insane to think about his legacy, nearly 80 years after the iconic era of his music in the 1950s. Without Elvia, I don't know if many of the Delta Blues singers that he loved and venerated would be known today. Say what you want about his artistry, but the man brought attention to many artists who would have been forgotten and lost to time.

Great video. Shows so many great points of Elvis that a lot of the younger people now days don't understand. He inspired so many artists and bands. Some of them you would have never thought he did.
The thing about Elvis was he was such a tremendous blues singer, just utterly amazing. The way he sang was all "gut" singing, it's really hard and takes a hell of a lot of strength in the diaphragm and stomach muscles. It took me forever to even get close to getting the kind of vibrato he had and still, I'll never match it and he was singing on that level since he was a teenager.

I had the unique opportunity of talking with Robert right after he had met Elvis; I was in the private club upstairs at the Rainbow on Sunset and my date knew Robert who was so excited, like a kid, “I’ve just met Elvis!” and he told us the whole story.
Elvis was an Anomaly, nothing like his way had ever been dreamed of! His passion was Gospel Music, His Record collection was nothing but old Quartet Gospel and lots of Old Black Gospel Quartets and Black Blues and Spiritual Performers. He had thousands of of Quartet Gospel Records, I guess every thing ever made. He had The Blackwood Brothers and The Stamps as His back up singers both Gospel! JD Sumner great Bass singer said after shows they would all get around a piano, Elvis would unwind by all singing Hymns together some time till dawn! I love seeing him in the videos, he will close his eyes and the spirit has got him! My Mom said the Day he died in Natchez Mississippi where they lived at that time, the radio announced it on every channel and the roads were littered with cars on the shoulders! She said people were all over every where you looked in huddles crying!
That is the most gracious representation of 2 phenomenal musicians, and human beings I have ever heard in my entire life. My parents took me to see Elvis in San Antonio, Texas in 1974, I was only 10, however I've never been to another concert in my life. At least I got to see the King.

BUT, I think he was one of the first who was personally destroyed by the business part of music, of making money, being famous, being the KING. I blame that on Colonel Parker who would not listen to his pleas, all he cared about was that Elvis was on stage, didn't care what kind of condition he was in. Elvis was the cash cow for Parker, and his success supported his entire family, who grew up in the projects. Elvis really did pull them all out of poverty. An American Dream story on top of it all. Still, maybe he could have stayed around longer if he wasn't so locked into so many films, concert and recording concentrate. Hell, tons of money is STILL being made off Elvis. With the impersonators and the hologram they made of this performance, and it has already been paired with a "live" duet with Celine Dion and others, it is touring and making even more money. Like Whitney Houston's hologram tour, a hologram doesn't die. This is my favorite performance of his. Handsome, strong voice, isn't in that bling pantsuits-.

Some of the great bands idolised and adored Elvis..the guy was the whole package. Talented, good looking,charismatic and was so versatile.

Surprised when Plant was on Letterman a few years ago.... sounded like an idiot. Wasn’t expecting that.
When Zeppelin met Elvis, they were literally the biggest band in the world, bigger than The Stones. At that time, they had finished up recording Physical Graffiti and had already revolutionized the rock touring industry, but even they were reduced to awestruck fans. The Beatles also pushed for and finally got to meet Elvis; when they finally met him, they were in awkward silence, they were in complete awe of him. Elvis was the one to break the silence by telling them "if you guys are just going to sit there and stare at me, I'm going to bed".
And Robert Plant has a different view of "mega success" than most other people. After Led Zeppelin's O2 concert almost 10 years ago, they got offers for a tour, one of them would have made them the first billion dollar concert tour, and Plant was the one that walked away from it, much to the chagrin of Page, Jones, and Bonham's son Jason. Plant has always been true to his own inner integrity, and of course is very complimentary to his influences. And besides, we're talking about ELVIS. The only other person higher on the singer totem pole was Frank Sinatra.

I met Elvis when I was four, and he was SO nice! I fell in love with him that night. His voice was AMAZING and sent chills through my body. He put me on stage and asked me several questions. I asked if I could read his playlist, and Elvis asked, “You can read?” I told him my mom put me in front of the television all day and I watched Sesame Street and various other educational shows. My mother was so embarrassed! He allowed me to choose three songs and he said he’d play them all consecutively. I chose In the Ghetto, I Can’t Help Falling in Love, and A Little Less Conversation. I was still sitting atop the stage when Elvis asked if I knew what the last song meant. I said, “It means the man wants the woman to shut up and he wants more sex!” My mother was so humiliated that her face was bright red! Elvis told my parents, “Y’all are gonna have trouble with her. This little lady’s too smart!” My Daddy and Elvis became close friends in Germany whilst in the Army. I was only able to attend one show, but my parents attended several. It was a fun night for me as we went backstage before the show and even the band and backup singers were wonderful. Elvis was nervous and I asked him why. He said, “I’m afraid they ain’t gonna like me.” He told me he was nervous before every show. I told him that everyone loved him. He kissed me on the cheek when I told him that, but I meant it. I was devastated when he died. My parents attended his funeral but wouldn’t allow me to go with them. Elvis may be gone, but he’ll NEVER die. I’ll never forget the gorgeous man with the great sense of humor and the voice that will never be emulated.

Elvis had the abillity to make people feel as though they had known him for years, after spending five minutes with him. Plant is visibly moved during the Letterman interview, and who can blame him? He was one of the lucky ones who got to spend time with a phenomenon, who NEVER ever thought he was bigger or better than anyone else.

Elvis set a precedent that paved the way for the late 60s to early 80s rock scene. Whether you consider him the greatest artist of all time or not, theres no denying that whoever you DO consider is the greatest wouldn't be here were it not for the King.

What made Elvis so unique and special is how he bridged the gap between the crooners of the 1940's (like Bing Crosby) and the straight-ahead rockers of the 1950's (Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, etc.). He was in the right place at the right time, and such a special talent.

His two string leads and pull-offs have been copied by every rock guitarist since. From The Stones to The Sex Pistols, Berry had more of an influence on rock music than Elvis. He spent the better half of his life singing ballads to blue-haired grannies in Vegas. LOL!

I was a small child when my grandmother and my parents took me to see Elvis in concert. He died on my 12th birthday. Robert Plant is my favorite singer and I have gotten to see him on his solo tour and then with Jimmy Page.
I was 7 living in Australia and I cried my heart out, I still do till this day when I hear his voice.
I raised my children to love him as much as I do❤️
At 8 years old my mother took me to see Elvis perform at the Macon Coliseum. It was my first concert.

Robert always gives great interviews. Elvis was my home state man! I think everyone loved Elvis because of his genuine, sweet, and warm personality. In his 1968 t.v. special, when he was dressed in all black leather, with jet black hair, he had to be THE most beautiful man on earth! He kept his fabulous voice until he died. I think about if his twin had lived, would he have been an entertainer too.
Elvis' influence on popular music is immutable. The man made such a mark on popular music that the reverberations of his influence on the genre are still felt today. He is still referenced, still talked about, still inspiring musicians. It is insane to think about his legacy, nearly 80 years after the iconic era of his music in the 1950s. Without Elvia, I don't know if many of the Delta Blues singers that he loved and venerated would be known today. Say what you want about his artistry, but the man brought attention to many artists who would have been forgotten and lost to time.

The thing about Elvis was he was such a tremendous blues singer, just utterly amazing. The way he sang was all "gut" singing, it's really hard and takes a hell of a lot of strength in the diaphragm and stomach muscles. It took me forever to even get close to getting the kind of vibrato he had and still, I'll never match it and he was singing on that level since he was a teenager.

I had the unique opportunity of talking with Robert right after he had met Elvis; I was in the private club upstairs at the Rainbow on Sunset and my date knew Robert who was so excited, like a kid, “I’ve just met Elvis!” and he told us the whole story.

His passion was Gospel Music, His Record collection was nothing but old Quartet Gospel and lots of Old Black Gospel Quartets and Black Blues and Spiritual Performers. He had thousands of of Quartet Gospel Records, I guess every thing ever made. He had The Blackwood Brothers and The Stamps as His back up singers both Gospel! JD Sumner great Bass singer said after shows they would all get around a piano, Elvis would unwind by all singing Hymns together some time till dawn! I love seeing him in the videos, he will close his eyes and the spirit has got him! My Mom said the Day he died in Natchez Mississippi where they lived at that time, the radio announced it on every channel and the roads were littered with cars on the shoulders! She said people were all over every where you looked in huddles crying!
That is the most gracious representation of 2 phenomenal musicians, and human beings I have ever heard in my entire life. My parents took me to see Elvis in San Antonio, Texas in 1974, I was only 10, however I've never been to another concert in my life. At least I got to see the King.

BUT, I think he was one of the first who was personally destroyed by the business part of music, of making money, being famous, being the KING. I blame that on Colonel Parker who would not listen to his pleas, all he cared about was that Elvis was on stage, didn't care what kind of condition he was in. Elvis was the cash cow for Parker, and his success supported his entire family, who grew up in the projects. Elvis really did pull them all out of poverty. An American Dream story on top of it all. Still, maybe he could have stayed around longer if he wasn't so locked into so many films, concert and recording concentrate. Hell, tons of money is STILL being made off Elvis. With the impersonators and the hologram they made of this performance, and it has already been paired with a "live" duet with Celine Dion and others, it is touring and making even more money.
