Mercedes w123 m110 auxiliary air valve replacement

My 280te restoration had a very high idle at rest. It did not seem to lower after warm up and the thought was it was the auxiliary air valve, not the cold start valve. I replaced this and run through my learnings of the AAV/air slide valve and what to look for. I replaced mine with one I bought online (supposedly new but who knows!) as they are NLA. It helped lower the idle, and then my mechanic altered the idle adjustment and fuel ratio. It was much better at running speed, and I hope tomorrow if I start it, it wont do a burnout when I put it in gear!

Thanks for the good advice. I have a 280TE with 500K. I have to take out the old air-pump to even get close to AAV.
Now I know why the engine does not stall, when I turn down / close the idle screw.

Hi pegasus . I'm in Perth. The darn idle speed can be a few things, cold start, air mixture, fuel mixture and AAV. Removal to check your aav may take about 40mins and get u a coolant shower but not the most terrible job!

the system is slowly making sense to a hobbyist like me Pegasus. The bad news is, these AAVs are not readily available anymore. I think I bought mine on ebay from the Middle East!

Great video as always! Did you have a go at reconditioning the valve that you removed from the engine? If so, would you have any tips for going about it?

Sorry Adil, there is a video of someone repairing them but I not clever enough to do this. I cant find a link of a bloke who sold the new heat sensor bulb at the bottom as my mechanic says this is the bit which fails. good luck friend
