I think this program is less expensive when purchased as a bundle and as a first time homeschooler I love the tests because it lets me know right away what my daughter gets and where she struggles which is not always obvious when you are working so closely together on a subject. We do a page a day and that totals including tests 36 weeks of school.
@@thesparrowlilyschoolhouse yes. My daughter used abeka in private school the year before and doing it during quarantine I noticed it didn’t have any writing. She kept a journal during that time but it was not enough. I love the writing portion of BJU it’s a nice break and change of pace.
Absolutely! However, with our 2nd grader I will probably do parent-led, he just doesn’t have the patience for the DLO. He has adhd/autistic, he knows doing parent-led is so much faster bc he just wants to be shown what to do and just complete the work rather than the teacher ramble on about things, which the videos are not long 5-10mins. Our 7th grader is thriving with the online courses, so I will keep the online for her. I am really leaning toward those Christian curriculum you showed. I have them in my Amazon. Would you think a 7th grader would think the level 1 is too young for her? We just started bringing Bible in about 2 years ago.
I think that’s wonderful you are focusing on the individual needs of your children! For a 7th grader I think she would probably enjoy the level 2 more than the level 1. My 5th grader has gone back and forth with it. I think the only thing that has kept his interest is doing together as group. Hope this helps! 😃
@@thesparrowlilyschoolhouse good to know! I will keep that in mind when I am preparing for next school year, can't believe we will start buying things in April! I have subscribed to your channel. Thank you for sharing insight, not a lot of "homeschool" things in our little town either.
I’m sorry if you’ve answered this before but I’m new to your channel. Did your kids come from public school into your homeschool? If so, do you feel like their grade level was appropriate for them with BJU? I know some curricula suggest going down a level in English if kids come from public school. Thanks!
Hello! Thanks for the question! Yes, both of my children came from public school. My son is an advanced student and my daughter is average. I do feel like their grade level was appropriate. I looked at a lot of samples before hand. You know your kiddo best. Go with your gut 😃 Hope this helps!
Hello, I just saw this video as I am researching on what to do next school year for my son who is 10 and finishing TGTB LA level 3 and math level 3. I am wanting to try BJU for both and I am wondering if I should start with level 4 or 5 I don't know if level 4 will be good. I'm clueless lol what would you do? Thank you for this informative video 🙏
I’m trying to decide between BJU grade 3 Grammar/writing, Christian Light Education Language Arts, and Rod & Staff. My daughter disliked writing for so long we really need a step by step foundation for grammar & writing. I’ve seen many comments (even on BJU website that says BJU grade 3 is lacking in the paragraph writing steps. Do you feel this is the case?
Hey Dawn, I can’t speak for the lower levels. The lowest level I’ve gone through is 3rd grade. However, i personally felt like the writing instruction was sufficient. The key in my opinion is review and lots of practice. I highly encourage getting your hands on a copy before purchasing. I think once you see the format it would help you make the best decision for your kiddo. Hope this helps!
As of right now, no. Not that I don’t think they are good, but because right now what we have going is working. Also, my oldest will be a 6th grader next school year. I want to keep as many subjects grouped as I can. We will really enjoy doing science and history together 😃
My 3rd grader uses this and we love it. I don’t have to supplement for journaling and writing it’s all in this one book. We also use BJU spelling and reading and love them and how they compliment each other. We did not like BJU Math and only lasted in it a month before moving and falling in love with Teaching Textbooks. We have 11 weeks left and will be ordering BJU spelling, English, and reading for 4th grade in the fall.
My son hates to write and I've let him slack on it. I want to use bju but I'm wondering if I should start a year back the curriculum we've been using isn't as advanced as I once thought so now I'm worried he will have holes? I've heard bju english is rigorous so wondering which way to go in level or below?
Hey Andrea, I apologize for the late reply. Personally, I think it depends on the child’s reading level. If they are a reluctant reader the program will frustrate them. I’ve also learned when it came to the writing chapters, we went at our own pace. My daughter tends to be more of a reluctant writer but I’ve learned not to push her with it. However, she loves creative writing. So I give her a lot of freedom in that area.
I hope you will see this comment and respond. How do you do English for 2 different grade levels? I have this exact book for next year but I also have a 5th grader. For example, Do you have 1 child do Math while you do English with the other?
Yes, that’s exactly what I do. I do ELA with my daughter first while my son works on math and then they switch. We did this first thing in the morning. We consider this our core work. After that we focus on science and history. Hope this helps 🙂
I love this review! Very thorough and informative. I am going to check them out as well as their reading program too.
Thank you so much! I’d love to know what you find out about their reading programs. I’ve tried to look into them but was scared away by the price lol!

Thank you so much for this review! This made up my mind for next years curriculum. It was extremely helpful.
That is so exciting! I will be praying for you and kiddos!
