Hey guys - any chance we Dm you for a bit of a chat sometime? One question initially is regarding premium (91 octane) gas - is that available often enough? We plan to bring 15 extra gallons to stretch out our range but our rift requires 91 octane. Any thoughts? Cheers.
Hi - What we noticed was an ample number of gas stations. Mostly Pemex which has good quality gas. We have a diesel van so didn't pay much attention to what # octane it was, however our two friends have gas vehicles so I will ask them. There were plenty of new vehicles on the road. We google map'd all the gas stations and wrote them on our map. They are almost all located on the iOverlander app as well so if you use that (we suggest you do) make sure that the gas tab is on so you see all the locations. It also shows purified water stations which are EVERYWHERE. We will be adding a video at the end of the series on what we learned, would have done have done different, etc etc... that may help too. Also at some point I'll be adding our specific itinerary for anyone that wishes to follow all or part of it. Stay tuned.
Harsh. La fortuna is one of the busiest surf towns in the area. I’m not sure we spoiled anything for anyone. It’s no secret spot as we camped directly in front of 3 restaurants, a camp ground and the most popular break in La fortuna. They have competitions there. It may look empty but that’s because we are the only two people on the easy side which is a mere 30 yards from the busy side where 50 People were in the water. Trust us, if this were some secret spot we’d say so. Maybe the secret to finding these empty spots isn’t such a secret. Just go in the off season like we did and you too can get an empty beach that’s usually packed.
Yeah, sorry for the kooks comment. La Fortuna has been overrun in the last 2-3 years. It’s sad to see 10 Sprinter vans and 12 people in the water after years of relative seclusion out there. My buddy even just opened a surf shop behind Lateral. The entire East Cape has now been exposed and discovered much to the chagrin of older long term Baja travelers. Just selfishly wishing the internet was not showing something that has been so special for me and my family and to now see it packed is a bummer.
@richgalligan all good man. I hear ya. It’s a fine line for sure to share amazing places yet keep the secrets on the DL. We do keep the secrets sacred. Thanks for the response. Baja has changed so much. Good for locals. Bad for explorers. It’s a tough balance for sure. ✌🏼
