- It is no secret that I am an equipment junkie, and so, with excitement, I am happy to share today's progress report on my new custom bass, known as the Aluminum Monster.
Why aluminum, you ask? Because it's not just a metal; it's a symbol of resilience and strength, able to withstand various climates and elevation levels that can otherwise ruin a performance. Don’t be fooled by the name, though. This beast is heavier than *#$&!
This is a true quest-a process of trial and error; finding the perfect harmony of materials and setup to create the bass Dan “The Man” Austin and I have in our minds.
In this video, I'm testing Dan’s latest modifications for the first time.

I answered one of the other guys earlier, Gus, my plan is to get this working perfectly, and then pick up with one of the conversations from several different manufacturers that have approached me about a signature base. I really would like to see people like yourself that deserve a good instrument get one I know there’s a lot of good bases out there, but I have a couple tricks up my sleeves that I would like to share with people that are interested in what I’m doing

That bass is beautiful. For me, there is no better shape for a bass than a rickenbacker. And this is like a maximum-mod rick like the black one before. Excited to hear it 2025 in Germany. Also great to have a little sneak peek into the deMaio homestudio. Would love to see a little studio tour.

I would love to buy a replica Joey spec bass (maybe a normal bass rather than piccolo). I just love that classic Rickenbacker shape and the black ones you use on stage most of all.
yes, I want to get this thing working perfectly first and then I’ve got people approaching me all the time about a production base, and I would like to be able to get some good instruments into the hands of people like yourself who would appreciate it and deserve it

Wow, I was listening to your other video about the quest for a particular sound and didn't really comprehend it, now I get it. That frequency or whatever just hits your ear in a way that's indescribable, but you know it when you hear it. And this example is just a small step in the process. Can't wait for November-Brooklyn!

For the word, recently I saw the video, that showed how you with Michael Angelo was jamming "Little wing" by Jimi Hendrix, and I immediately loved this jam. Please, can you make the studio recording of this song? I sure even if live jamming sounded so great the studio recording will be absolutely amazing.

Do you play palm muting parts with neck pickup?
actually, I don’t think about it that way if I need to mute, I mute I don’t care what pick up I’m on. I think it’s more just the articulation of the muting than the sound of the instrument at that point, although I suppose if I’m playing with the band I might use the bridge pick up but remember my bases are in stereo so most of the time both pick ups are on.
