This reminds me of a conversation a friend and i had about the shroud. I had the theory that the reason your ship falls apart, is because of desperate lost souls looking for a way out, and grabbing on.

No joke, my crew and I were doing a Flameheart Fleet a while ago, and a skelly gally spawned on us as we about to fight the ghost ships. After a brief exchange of fire between us and the skeletons, the ghosts started attacking them, and the skeletons actually fought back. We were astounded by this, and we could see the skelly gally take down two ghost ships before being overrun from across the island. Good times.
@@tuccerjim3084 I think skeleton ships attack the ghost ships actually ,never saw the ghost one aim for skellies altough the skellies do it.
Like,if the skellies have a player on one side and a ghost ship on the other they will fire on both.
Blackjack A. Idk, in my experience it’s usually the ghosts that make the first move, but then the skelly ships start fighting them after that. I think you are right about skelly ships targeting both players and ghosts in the middle of combat though, I was just referencing the roaming ones that might get close to a fleet
The way you talk about the items needed for the summoning of the Lords reminds me if when you resurrected Larry. You know your alchemy good sir. Cheers for the vid, I wonder who else is trapped within the shroud. Maybe the Ancients will come back in some form or another.

So essentially the hearts of the ashen lords are like philosophers stones in full metal alchemist. Theyre like a battery powered by souls
That last bit “The Shroud is People” may hold the key about what happened to the ancients
This makes sense because the longer you are fighting the ashen lord the stronger they get

I find that the 'shroud is people' theory is very interesting, but I would put it as that the shroud is literally the powdered magical dust of skellies, because living people go to the sea of the damned, but the 'essence' of everyone's most hated annoyance on the seas goes to the shroud, and their violent nature breaks apart ships even in their astral forms, and that regular skellies are just the reddish grey, foggy clouds, but powerful ones like ashen lords are like a tornado, with streakes of fire.running through it
I think rare should make an event that only happens once and crews are forced to work together to save the sea of theives instead of us working in crews. I think it would be cool and more like something out of a movie than a game

He could become a Tall Tale boss in the future.
I have this theory that Stitcher is not becoming an Ashen Lord, just that the ritual was needed to summon these 4. I could be completely wrong tho.

Here's my theory: the fog that spawns only ever spawns in on the edge of the map, beside the shroud. What if this fog isn't just an annoying way to blind ships. What if the fog is a group of people from the shroud trying to get back into the sea of thieves. What do you hear while in the fog? Moaning and whispers.
What if “down there” meant underneath reapers hideout because the storm looks the same as the glow coming from underneath reapers

That makes sense, but the shroud was around at about the same time the ancients came to the sea of thieves. So I dont know if that would be exactly right. On the other hand, what if the shroud is capable of "trapping" souls and preventing them from reaching the sea of the damned. Sort of like soul gems from TES.
I thought it was going to be about how red Ruth mad cursed cannonball before Wanda so maybe Wanda just followed in her footsteps.

So in order to resurrect a ashen lord,u need their own earns,a pile of bones,the book that contain the spells for them to be resurrected
Also worth mentioning that the red smoke appear from the sky is a limbo where u cant die but u do not alive either and when red ruth said that she was getting bored "down there" it could be that their soul are in the limbo realm whereas their body remains are inside these earns

I think the redness under the reapers hideout could be whatever this tornado is made of, or mabye the contained shroud
maybe a reason why ships break in the shroud is that the "people" are trying to grab onto the ship and pull themselves out but they break the ship in the process
If the shroud is all people than who are they, a guy called "sea of theives guy" said the ancients which is brilliant, but perhaps other pirates besides the ashen lords
I dunno about the 'down there' interpretation, but the rest is a pretty damn solid (and distressingly grim) theory.
As a side note, another thing I noticed is that each Lord seems to have the Ashen Curse focused super heavily on their right arms...the same arm Stitcher Jim set aflame in the Heart of Fire. Nothing really significant, but a nice detail to not nonetheless.
When it says “I was getting born down there”, it means the reapers lair… now we know.
In heart of fire sticher jim puts his hand in a chest of rage and screams then runs off with flame heart saying he gave him the power if an ashen lord...
That would explain why flame hearts ship was able to survive while our player vessels are not because they are the people of flame heart
I think when Red Ruth said I was getting bored down there think she's referring to the pit under the stone circle at the reapers hideout which makes me think that the loot we hand in to the reapers is being thrown into the wierd liquid to give the ashen lords power and that the red tornado in the sky above the ashen lord island looks like the liquid in the pit at the reapers hideout

So would that be why it moves so strangely and does what it does? If it pulls you into limbo bit by bit, that would be why it tears away parts of the ships and crews that pass through it, and makes those crews lose their minds as well. Perhaps the first people caught in it might've been the Ancients themselves, if they created it trying to access the Sea of the Damned through their portal network, which may be the reason for the immense wear on the large one in the center of the map - a sort of explosion of the Devil's Shroud, taking bits of the rock and the people with it, until they were all gone, and then moving outwards towards the rest. Perhaps it moves further away to find the people of the rest of the world, leaving those left within the Sea of Thieves behind, or perhaps some people within it are trying to preserve the Sea and strand the fog in open ocean.

I think if flameheart is defeated we will be fighting what i think is the most powerful skeleton lord, the cap'n.
Maybe the shroud is a concentration of soul energy that only the souls that make it up can survive in. When sailors sail through the shroud the density of souls diffuses into the sailors bodies which causes the sharp burning in the lungs when the sailors breath in. They are breathing in souls and the body can only handle one soul which is why they die.
but using the blunderbus as a sniper makes it harder so you feel elated when you hit someone when your not supposed to be able to

The shroud being made of the essence of the ashen lords makes sense in gameplay as well as when you enter the shroud don't you start taking ship damage immediately? As if the ashen lords are attacking you from their shroud prisons?

Wait a minute hold up.. if the shroud is people (Just pointing this out) and before they said the ancients were once there, but then somehow disappeared, im guessing the shroud is made from the ancients with their curses, and then eventually all of them got swallowed up by it?? Like I guess, they were not covered by the shroud before, they had contact with the outside world, but then they started playing with the magic (or someone or something was) and then they all somehow got swallowed up by the shroud, making it bigger and bigger, until it surrounded the sea of thieves??

It does make sense if the shroud is people. Maybe the ancients mastered immortality by becoming the shroud, so that they could live forever in the sea of thieves.

🤔 that definately raises questions....if the shroud is people, and when entering the shroud causes wood to rot and metal to warp and people to decay...wouldnt that mean the souls of the shroud are what causes the damage, the (in theory) time skip to death?
