    I tried the cucumber soap in the same proportions that I gave you, but I mixed the frozen cucumber juice with soda so that the soap duration is long and does not spoil due to the presence of cucumber pulp on the effect. The proportions are good and suitable even for sensitive skin. Thank you for what you offer.

    The cost of starting a business especially getting the soaps assessed is VERY costly. Far too many soap makers in the UK don't bother with labelling never mind safety assessments. You will spend thousands with testing before you even get near market ready.

    • @SoapSchoolUK
      @SoapSchoolUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Amanda, Not all countries require assessments to sell the soaps. If you're in an area that does require them they vary in price from around £35 for a single variety to around £200 for 8 soap varieties, so even with this cost it still makes it a very affordable business start-up when you compare it to many businesses.

    • @amandag5072
      @amandag5072 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SoapSchoolUK I'm in the UK. I was not just refering to the assessments, if you want to produce a quality product you need to test every ingredient to find out how it behaves immediately and over time. Assessements are the final tip on the iceberg of costs.
      Finding a base recipe you like, is time and cost consuming as is, then you must test every colourant, each FO or EO, packaging, and on and on. New soapers are often led to believe they can just throw any old ingredients together and sell it. If only it was that simple! It is then made worse by soapers selling their wares at markets and events, as well as online, with zero testing, labelling and/or assessments. You only have to look at the majority of soap sellers on etsy who are uk based to see this. These sellers are cocky too, they think the law does not apply to them. If they won't even put a label with an ingredients list on their product, what hope is there!
      These sellers often undercut the rest who do abide by the law as well as undertake full testing.
      As someone who has received abuse and been mocked by other illegal soap sellers both in person at events and online, it stinks.
      Teachers and those who are looked to for information should really emphasise the need for full testing and labelling (and assessments where required) and point out repeatedly that this takes time and a good pile of cash to get market ready.

    • @SoapSchoolUK
      @SoapSchoolUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@amandag5072 I'm sorry to hear about your experience. I have been in the business for 30 years and can honestly say that things are so much easier for people to start a business now and also much more affordable too. There are some really helpful groups and forums to gain advice including groups created by safety assessors to help people understand the legalities and offer affordable assessments which include recipes. There are always people who start a business without researching the regulations not just in cosmetics but food and almost every industry. Ultimately if someone is thinking of starting a business, there is a tonne of free help out there to help them get started and also some awesome makers who give some great tips on their social and TH-cam channels. Trading standards regularly attend events to find people who are not compliant and to educate them. I often find that some sellers simply didn't know there were any regulations and want to comply once they are aware of them.

    • @amandag5072
      @amandag5072 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SoapSchoolUK Sadly, my experince has been that illegal soap sellers start proclaiming that the rules do not apply to them and that trading standards would never catch them and they would lie to any TS officer who contacted or spoke to them.
      Perhaps I have just been unlucky at the events I have been to; but it seems to be a growing attitude online too.
      Too many creative groups are filled with people who don't know what they are talking about. Yes, there are a few good ones. When I was a beginner soap maker it took some time to determine which were the good or bad groups, but a newbie can be badly led up the garden path in the meantime.
      I can probably count on one hand the number of youtube soap creators who actually show and encourage good safe practice.
