I use a laptop cooler stand that elevates and moves the laptop keyboard closer at a slanted position on the glider shelf… Furniture is nice but take a lot of time for initial setup and breakdown … So it’s nice if you have a helping hand.. A road case is the way to go for quick and convenient setup… I would advise getting a table with adjustable legs and get the table higher… Also I keep usb cables connected to a usb c docking station or usb hub… and keep a power strip inside the case…If I were to switch to furniture I wouldn’t want to break it down every time unless I could roll it in a van or trailer without dismantling anything… Furniture is too expensive.. I rather build my own or buy a Home Depot roller workbench with wheels and shelves that I would modify to fit equipment…
I’m 5ft 9, and I also stack my controller case. I also own the Bunn Gear Command Center, and have the 2 laptop stands up on a high position. I unfortunately suffer from neck & back pain, so hunching over for all these years have caught up to me. I like my laptop to be up at eye level when possible.
They have tables that go up to any height. I've got a 48" one. I've been a bi-pedal/upright standing DJ for years. The flight sace is heavy but still holds all the gear!
I definitely feel you. I remember before, I would get pain in my lower back and feet just hunching down all the time. Now I use a keyboard Z-Stand and by using that I’m able to raise my case up to normal height where I’m not hunching my back. Everything regarding power, audio and mic cables are preset in my case setting up everything quick. Think the only time I don’t use a case is when I’m doing bars, restaurants, lounges since they have their own sound system.
I know this might not be a popular opinion but i think DJ furniture looks gawdy. I prefer the portable dj booths. I don't use flight cases i use the soft cases for transport. I use a laptop stand.
I'm not as tall, but I hate lugging that thing around. It's HEAVY! I've been rocking my DDJ 1000 in a soft case and setting it up on a Rockville Rockbooth XL. World of difference!
I have a ProX case with a DDJ-1000 SRT. I use a Proline keyboard stand and the height is perfect for me(6’0”). My BBE 882i Sonic Maximizer, mounted directly beneath the controller serves as a mixer/sound conditioner. The top shelf, with a laptop cooler, holds my MacBook, and anything else I may use for the event. It is heavy. But, with all my wiring neatly tucked inside, it is VERY efficient. I do like the look of the furniture. But, I still bring the funk with this set up. 😎
Salute to Jay Book, I enjoy your channel & enjoy your twisted transition show. I don't think it will ever be a thing from the past. Technically if your a touring DJ this is the safest way to protect your gear when traveling. For a local Dj that does cooperate/wedding for sure furniture, towers will be a better look. But it's all based on choice of preference what works best for you.
Not impressed with the pedestal style furniture. Then there's the mobile booth that some of the online DJs use. however, they're no good for UK venues as we don't have places just to wheel in.
I am in agreement with most of the DJs here. I stack on top of my flight case always if I use my booth or Walmart table. It was always too short by itself. And I am not about to spend thousands of dollars or days in my garage to fabricate DJ furniture. Even the modular stuff you could transport in in a car it's not worth it. I do not ever plan to change that. Would rather spend my money on new sound and lighting when the time comes. We need lighter and easier to transport gear not bigger and more difficult 😂
well what I have found is that everything comes to a point. most dj's invitie the opportunity to change or stand out or just be different. Never say Never.
just got a Rane performer but I can't find the flight case that I had on my old controller which was the pioneer SZ . the laptop platform would raise and extend back but I can't find any being sold for the Rane do they still make them?
Hey Book! Is this click bait or what? Lol... these cases aren't going anywhere. I also don't like or use the sliding shelf, but the case works great for me. I am only 5'6" though. I understand that you personally want to move to DJ furniture and that's great for you and many other TH-cam DJs, but that's a TH-cam DJ trend. It doesn't apply to clients or DJs who don't follow TH-cam. I'll be rocking my flight case forever. It fits my style and workflow. I have ZERO interest in podium style DJ furniture and I do a ton of corporate events. Looking forward to see what you get. Good luck to you!
I understand that you are 6... but the shelf works for most Djs. Very convenient. For you being a wedding Dj. The furniture definitely works. But for most other gigs. The case works. It protects and allows for easy transportation.
I've had to stop using the standard hight (3 ft). I found out from my chiropractor that the low tables was contributing to my lower back pain. Since then I've gotten a higher table that I don't need to put the cover on the bottom. I am look at DJ furniture.
I use my Rane One Pro-X flight case with a good keyboard stand (near its highest setting, without getting too crazy) or I use the ADJ event table. The flight case deck holds my laptop and tablet or Laptop and ControlOne. (looking at it right now) There is a dust cover on it not allow it to close (of course). I dont have the space in my car to accommodate furniture and I have not been gigging as much anymore to comment on the mobile piece. I do have a couple things modified in my flight case that allow me to set up quicker with mic power for MacBook Pro Dedicated charger (left it home twice before, not again), USB-C Charging and a quality hub for the other mobile devices, wireless mic and quick front panel access for aux, mic 2 and XLRs. ... If i were still on the move regularly with a truck, i'd get furniture, but good luck with moving it up flights of stairs if you have to (that's my concern as a Mobile DJ).
@@DjJayBook you’re right, you’re right. … I use my trailer but on the brink of needing the rental, which I have done. … using a Uhaul does require some additional coordination, especially when availability is low. But point taken. You gotta do what you’ve gotta do.
Everything is fine until something new comes out. I'll still use my case, it does what I need it to do and serves it's purpose. Sometimes I play in clubs and booths where that grand piano furniture won't fit. Lol
I just purchased the soft case for my Rane One because of the weight of my Odyssey case. I use the shelf, but because I'm getting older I need less weight more than the shelf. Too early to really tell how much or how little I like it. Time will tell.
its been a year, but i havent djed in a while, i had difficulty promoting myself, but, one of my ideas, and only because i like doing it, is to make my own controller. i was thinking about trying to find an old analog mixer and convert it to digital, but another idea i had was to maybe build my own all in one unit. it would be more like a computer with a midi controller built into it though, and a flight case/coffin would be an ideal box to store it all in yes, theres a possibility of it getting heavy, but even in 2024, i still prefer having a desktop computer. they run cooler, they are easier to maintain, cheaper, and way more configurable. with the right setup, i can easily get 24 USB ports without a hub, 4 video outputs, without a hub, directly from a graphics card, or, i can possibly have 2-3 usb 3.0 video outputs at least. if you have screens for one of your setups, you can easily set them up to show the same screen, or all of them show different screens. you can add Wi-Fi cards, which i believe you can also set up to broadcast a wireless network. but, i plan on staying in my bedroom and going virtual. i already have a couple of people who have told me that i can DJ for their events whenever i'm ready. i just have to give the word
I've never liked the cases with the shelf on it because it adds extra pounds and like you said it cost more. I have cases but I haven't used them in a while. I transport my controller in a soft case and my booth is tall enough so that I'm not hunched over. I think next year I'll be switching to dj furniture, maybe, we'll see. I just need to find something that's unique.
Those cases are meant to be stacked. They are a little heavy to carry but it protects my controller very well. So I’ll keep buying them until they stop making them for the equipment i buy. Now I will not be spending money on heavy DJ furniture that custom fist my equipment. That’s just extra stuff to haul around. Just keep my fold up table and facade to keep it clean looking. I’m not following in that trend. My stuff still works so no need to switch for me 😂😂😂 if your rack is getting stuck just put some oil in the grooves to help with slide it’s simple 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️😂😂😂
I get it. everybody has options and they can choose what ever they would like. what ever works for is the route you should go. it's just a different time for me and I welcome a change
The only way I would get DJ furniture is for higher end Weddings and Quinceaners, and it’s not worth the extra cost right now. And what a pain to haul around dj furniture too! A person would need to add to the already insane cost of dj furniture and purchase a small trailer or van to haul all that stuff around.
Since you asked, yes all DJing is hard for tall people, has nothing to do with the case. Big guys have to buy clothes at certain stores, so big DJ's are gonna have to buy the "furniture" to suit their needs as well. No other way I can put it. Also your beef is not the case, but the height of the table. You could have spent less money on the custom table. Just my 2 cents
I'm almost 6' when wearing dress shoes. I bought a collapsible table that goes up to 48". My flight case works perfectly for me. The standard banquet table is always way too short for me.
I disagree. Although dj furniture looks very clean, flight cases are the most versatile. Still hella heavy with everything inside but it’s a fast setup with the flight case with the most protection for the long run. Flight cases will never go away.
6 months from now, Is overpriced DJ furniture a thing of the past? LOL. How can you justify spending more on "DJ Furniture" Than what a controller cost? Are you an interior decorator or a DJ? Y'all are looking real questionable right now with these videos. Give me a flight case and a facade while everyone else wastes money on a fad.
When the DJ furniture booths drop to a normal price in the $850 - $1500 range, including cases, then we talking. A gorgeous Danny Maxx case with all the extras & cases is over $3,000.
i Get why you say this and I totally understand. Just remember that before we had what we had is was different and the need to upgrade to what we currently have was the move. trust me it's not for everyone but it great for some.
I wanted to buy the Pro-X orange controller case but I don't like the top shelf on the controller because it's big, it ruins the buttons on the controller and who knows if the laptop will get hot just like what Clevland Terry said. And If u put stuff on top ur also doing a lot of work.
We’ve used the flight cases for decades mainly for height adjustment. Makes since everyone is eyeballing a change once furniture became a thing. Mine stay at home, too heavy. For height, I picked up leg extenders for the table. Wondering what you ended up getting Jay? And have you seen the Odyssey DJ Studio Potium? Little wider than most, and seems to collapse and assemble easier than others.
I love my flight case! To each his own!
agreed

See you feel me!
What is the big deal about using the case to raise the height? What else are you doing with the lid lol.
in some cases it's still not high enough. furniture can be customize to your height in some cases
I've always stacked my case like this too Jay. Better on my back. :)
