I lost my son 11 years and 4 months ago. It is so true that you never "get over" it. You manage (some days better than others) to get through it. But there is forever a hole in my heart in the shape of my son, that can never be healed or filled with anything else. It is there, every minute of every day.
Dear Ladies, I can’t stop crying, just reading your tragedies… real pain here and I’m feeling just one ounce of your life long pain. Please stay strong. I’m praying for you and your precious families. 🙏
My gma lost 3/4. Two as still borns and one to domestic abuse. She said my mom the domestic abuse one was the worst because she was a bystander and now she has to live with it. But she also said my mom was so under his control if she did something she feared her fleeing the country. So I get her inner struggle in my own beliefs there were many ways to stop it.
God, it's unthinkable. I know the grief must be overwhelming at times, but you don't deserve to be unhappy forever. Please allow yourselves to experience joy every chance you get. Your children would want that.
I started tearing up when her friend said she sent that text “you’re not dead are you?” I’ve jokingly sent that text before as well. Can’t imagine how she must have felt when she heard the news. Absolutely devastating.
She should feel NO GUILT OR SHAME - she couldn't have imagined that something SO HORRIBLE could have happened. My heart goes out to ALL OF ELLIE'S LOVED ONES {FAMILY & FRIENDS}. That boy should get a long prison sentence so he can have time to become ashamed & repentant. He also needs therapy to treat that possessive nature he has that drove him to murder Ellie in cold blood. He should never have freedom until he does not have a possessive bone in his body!! I think because of his age, he didn't understand what he did. He should not even get paroled until he's no longer a risk for being possessive.
As a teenager, my girlfriend broke up with me via text message and I wanted to have a conversation about it. Not even trying to convince her to stay with her, just have a conversation. She agreed to it, but her parents insisted that we would meet at their home while her parents were at home. At the time, I was a bit upset about their parents, because it felt like they were accusing me of being some sort of psycho who would harm their daughter, after hearing about Ellie's tragic story, I feel a lot differently about it. My post breakup conversation went well and we even managed to stay friends and I certainly did not have any bad intentions, but you never know.
Hey, you're a fine gentleman. I never understood people's psychotic attachments to former partners. Nothing lasts forever. It's heartbreaking sometimes to be parted with someone dear but there are plenty of ways to deal with the grief instead of lingering on it.
I thought it'll be ridiculous to break up over phone. It made it difficult that my last 2 ex girlfriends did it every week. It was unstable and even at 25 and 29 respectively, I didn't know how relationships truly worked because it seemed new to me and each relationship was over a year but culturally different. One in Texas and the other in Korea. They were violent and abusive and their behavior was hard to control. I couldn't touch them at all and didn't try. I ended up breaking up both relationships because of the risks.
@@YourXellency that's symptomatic of the modern women. Most cultures are affected. You'd be hard to find anyone who would really commit to a relationship. Us men aren't that good either with that. Well, as long as you can detect red flags and avoid the loonies, all you can do is keep trying.
For a father to find his daughter dead let alone murdered…. Sending so so so much love to the family, friends, school community and the community at large. ❤️

I guess there are some situations in life that you need to have gone through yourself to fully comprehend their impact! A good friend of mine lost two husbands (accident and heart attack); a nightmare! When I mustered up the courage to talk to her about it, she said "there's nothing else than picking yourself up and to go on, as to having the strength to do it? It doesn't matter if you don't, there's no choice, is there?". That sums it up quite accurately, in my mind.
@@lenman1114 Oh wow you have created a big family, I'm just at beginning with a 7yr old step daughter and a 4yr old girl and she's mine. My wife is awesome and my best friend, she wants 1 more child but I really don't want to anymore, I'm 40 and feel two kids is enough. I had a hand full of ladies before my wife lol
People don't fully mature mentally and psychologically until 23-24 years old. In fact, people under that age were legally and correctly considered children until WWII when the law changed. We needed every able bodied male and 18 year old boys were in body more like men. They couldn't send children to war, so the age that was considered to be an adult was simply lowered to 18 years of age.
In Germany it would have been the same or even less. We don't believe in so called "absolute punishment" you practise "relative punishment" which means it's not punishment for the sake of punishment but it has to have a "purpose". Either social rehabilitation or deterrence for either the perpetrator or the public.

I think there were red flags. Tom's possessiveness and talk of marriage pointed to a controlling personality which is a red flag for domestic violence homicide.Regarding premeditation...he tried to cover up his crime by preempting conversation about the defensive scratches on his neck claiming them to be self inflicted.Strangulation is deliberate and takes considerable force and time. This is a dangerous young man.
He also could have been suffering from severe fear of abandonment. With the recent death of his grandmother, and potential upcoming death of his father, this may have triggered a mental illness, possibly BPD, which brings on EXTREME instability often due to fear of abandonment. Left untreated, patients with BPD have been known to become excessively volatile and often viciously violent when triggered. This, of course, is not the case for all diagnosed with BPD, but these behaviors and actions are well documented within this illness.
@@cb3514 I’m sorry but that’s a weak argument. I understand your point however borderline personality disorder is not a ‘mental desease’, it’s a personality disorder, the name spells it out. This guy is a full blown sociopath.

BPD was an off the cuff idea because of all the similar cluster b's, it has specific identifiers that stand out in this case.
I love the way when her parents talk about her they both light up, the mom can smile and the father too. This has to be so absolutely so terrible. Waking up everyday and reliving the reality you no longer have the number one thing you love in life. Having to deal with that daily, I cannot imagine. You're correct. This is why so many people take the law in their own hands and exterminate people like him. Yet, they will give you 10-15 years for certain drugs under an once.
I’ve always thought that the UK and Canada and other European countries have relatively light sentences when it comes to murder no .matter how terrible the murders can be
Liberals always sympathize with the criminal, not the victim. The sentence handed down should reflect the value a society places on an innocent human life. So this tells you what the UK and Canada think of a human being and their right to life and safety. Abominable.
No parent should ever find a child, the way Ellie's dad found her. Heart-wrenching. The 12 year sentence is yet, another travesty. Guy's a psycho....people, take heed.

The memorial her friends and teacher did for her brought me to tears once again. This story made me cry off and on but the memorial really did me in, and I 100% agree that he should have gotten life!
The fact I was a troubled teen and KNOW there were many situations I shouldn't have made it out of makes me feel guilty because girls like Ellie always seem to meet the fate that I could have met. Fly high butterfly Ellie ❤️🦋
Same here. The things I’ve done in my youth make me shutter in disgust. There were many times I put myself in situations where if I had worse luck, I’d be killed many times. Dangerous parts of town, dangerous men, rides home from strangers, drinking at clubs and leaving with people I’d just met. Now that I’m a mom, I’d be so upset if my kids did what I did. This case is so sad and my heart goes out to all the victims of horrible tragedies like this. She didn’t even put herself in harm’s way. No one deserves this, but this was majorly unnecessarily unthinkable. He was a trusted friend
We do dumb things in our youth. Definitely makes you worry for your children. We can't be present every moment of their lives so all we can do is instill good values and morals, love them, comfort them, listen to them and hope you've done enough of a job to watch them grow into amazing people. I have 3 kids and if they do half the stuff I did in my young years I'd probably never sleep solid ever again!
Kudos to those girls; to Ellie’s friends. Good for them for taking such a negative, horrible event and doing their best to turn it into a possible positive outcome for any girls in the future. Having self defense classes taught at school is a wonderful idea. That’s such a great initiative that Ellie’s friends thought of. What a great way to honor their friend. And, although a girl so loved could never die in vain, passing on a gift in her name is a beautiful way to make sure that her life will mean as much as it would’ve, had she gotten the chance to live it fully.
So heartbreaking! Her friends and parents seem like the sweetest people! The calmness and love they show is just so brave. Prayers for all affected by her passing.
I hope that her friends realize that recognizing that something is 'off' about a person is not 'judging,' it's using your sixth sense and it can save your life or the life of your friend. This boy put quite a bit of thought into trying to get away with murdering this young lady, thankfully not enough to get away with it.
There's been so many times I've not listened to that voice inside of myself for my own life....and for what I saw in others' relationshps. I don't ignore any longer. I've also taught my son to listen to it and call it out. The worst thing that is gonna happen (in your friendship) by doing it is that someone is going to be pissed off at you because they are on denial. Okay, may be not the worst. I'm sorry. That's wrong. You can also become a target yourself. That happened to me. But I still didn't change...I still called out the person. Never again will I be silent.

Only 12 years for murder? That is a horrendous injustice that was done to that beautiful girl. I wonder what that judge will say when he’s let out of jail and then kills again?
Bingo! I wonder if any judge would be so lenient (and there are many who are way too lenient) if it was THEIR family member - daughter, son, wife, sister, mother, father, etc who was murdered, or brutally attacked and survived? I've often thought these judges should be forced to endure what the families endure, either by forced to spend 2 weeks with the victim's family on the immediate aftermath, or in some way attend grief counseling sessions or something.

That's exactly what I am fearing. Too often when children are lost, the grief and despair is so overwhelming that the parents are unable to comfort and help each other, with each parent turning inward,. Over the years, the loneliness and solitude turns the marriage turns into an empty shell, and divorce follows. And in this case the final tragedy was that, I believe, she was their only child. This is beyond sad. But I disagree that kids are the most innocent members of our society. No, they are brutally honest about what they want, and will do it.
I once read a bibliography that said "The notion of innocence refers to a children's simplicity, their lack of knowledge, and their purity not yet spoiled by mundane affairs."

The human conscience is not fully developed until 19, so if you are not raised with a moral backbone and of consequences, they can and will do anything.

It happens more often than you think, unfortunately. So don’t blame his mom too harshly.
Absolutely agree 👍 I was going to write the same thing. A lot of people seem to always blame the parents. In a lot of cases it may be true but it's not an absolute. He took the bus home, changed his clothes and drove to her house. He went to her house to harm that beautiful woman. No one deserves to die by anyone's hand. Her life was taken way too early. RIP
I don't know if the sentence is right or wrong but what should be done is he should be mentally evaluated and find out if he was just a sociopath or someone with mental problems cause if he has mental problems then he could hurt someone inside the prison or even worse he hurts someone when he comes out cause he didn't get proper treatment.

People care way too much about stuff like that. If anything, it shows that he had something to lose but didn't care, which makes him even more dangerous. I was going to say that it's a British thing to care so much about that, but then I remember all the American college bros who've gotten away with SA, violence, and taking people's lives because some judge who was likely just like them in college thought they should still have a chance at a normal life.

17:36 this is why, as a parent, you should ALWAYS get involved. Not in an annoying way, but, in a way where you realize that rejection for some teens is a death sentence. Parents must be involved more, especially in teen relationships .
Almost all parents are clueless when it comes to them knowing their child's secrets. Even us parents that think we know our children inside and out never really do. 17 year Olds have secrets some that mean absolutely nothing and some that are the ones we need to know but never will until it's to late. So for them to be convinced the mom knew her son was a monster is ridiculous. No parent wants to see the bad in their child even when they truly see it they will explain it away.
that was her job, to spot things in children. Sure, we as parents put a type of blinders on, but we also still want our children to be mentally, and physically well. So that along with his mother's job, should have made some red flags pop up. She could have very well seen them, and tried talking with him, or she may have not noticed. You know, we don't actually know how involved with him she was. We weren't in the home. Maybe she was too busy helping other kids, that he felt left out. There are many things/None of them excuse what he did. That was such a selfish, possessive murder. He did it bcuz he couldn't handle her existing without being with him. To go thru with murder though...It's just so sad, and so awful.
No one expects a parent to be claivoyant and "sense" that their child would murder someone. That is absurd. But what many people do find strange is that neither his parents, other family members nor school teachers have ever noticed unusual behaviour, like signs of depression, nightmares, erratic behaviour, verbal abuse and many other signs of mental problems. Normally, parents and close friends do notice even subtle changes in behaviour or signs of something not being like before. No one can say it for sure, but more attention, more time with him and more involvement in his emotional state might actually have helped him deal with the issues and rage that he struggled with. No one who is sane, stable and well integrated in life around them suddenly turns into a rabid knife-wielding murderer because of a breakup.

@@tyffaneelavely8087 there may not have been early enough red flags for her to notice. Though never an excuse, this boy could have had a recent onset of extreme fear of abandonment. Between the death of his grandmother, and likely ensuing death of his father, this may have triggered a personality disorder, such as BPD, which is characterized by extreme fear of abandonment. Left untreated, people with this disorder can become extremely volatile and excessively violent when faced with abandonment. Though not all patients with BPD act out to this extent, there's plenty of documentation of extreme acts of violence committed by some with BPD or other cluster B personality disorders.

People don't fully mature mentally and psychologically until 23-24 years old. In fact, people under that age were legally and correctly considered children until WWII when the law changed. We needed every able bodied male and 18 year old boys were in body more like men. At the same time it doesn’t seem like the boys mother could be held responsible for what he did. Even if she worked with troubled kids, he wasn’t showing homicidal red flags. Plus, at the time her family was in turmoil, her husband was going through chemo and she’s raising a teenage son.
Looking at that picture of him, he looks very capable of the evil he committed. Just like mom said “spoiled monster.” 12 years? What kind of justice is that? I guess I’m just used to hearing 25 to life.

12 years- what a F-ing joke.
He should have been jailed for the rest of his rotten life.

It basically validates what he did - and he’ll always have the mindset of he can murder and only get a slap on the wrist- death penalty

@@AnneOhn123 why?
That's exactly what I am fearing. Too often when children are lost, the grief and despair is so overwhelming that the parents are unable to comfort and help each other, with each parent turning inward,. Over the years, the loneliness and solitude turns the marriage turns into an empty shell, and divorce follows. And in this case the final tragedy was that, I believe, she was their only child. So that glue of other children is not there. Let's hope they beat the statistics.
Ellie's friends are truly dear. Her memorial is quite perfect and speaks to her memory so well.
What an absolute shame such a beautiful young life lost. A message to all women. If a guy is possessive it's a major red flag. It may not lead to this outcome but possessiveness will NEVER lead to a healthy relationship. Condolences to friends & family R.I.P 🙏 x
Ellie recognised a toxic relationship early at the age of 17, she would have become a beautiful strong lady.

He looks cold and remorseless. He was obviously not accustomed to being told “no”. I partially blame his parents for that. He should be in jail for the rest of his natural life.
Why should we the taxpayer support this pos after he took a life..his life should end immediately, his parents should pay all expenses for the young ladies burial expenses too. Poor poor parenting..my condolences to the girls parents and family.
Most kids today are not being told no at home. I rarely see it. Parents are desperate for to be the children’s friends vs actual parenting.

I agree, children will lie, bully, steal, hurt and murder.
@@LilDitBit For me personally, I don't consider these age range as kids. For me I consider people 12 or under, kids. The above 12, I consider them teens, and adults when someone completes university at around 21-22.
@@1mol831 and I agree. My point was that children in primary school, the 7yr range definitely occasionally lie, hurt, thieve and bully. And less occasionally they murder. So saying someone is innocent based on age is twaddle. And if you are a teen, society might be less lenient because they are not very young.
The human conscience is not fully developed until 19, so if you are not raised with a moral backbone and of consequences, they can and will do anything.
The memorial is beautiful. A reminder of how people cared for this young woman. Every victim is someone’s loved one.
So the teen who first planned it, then went and murdered his girlfriend, then mutilated her dead body and then tried to cover it up will be released from prison before he is even thirty years old. In that case, let us all hope against our better judgement that he has had a proper therapy and grown mature in there, and that he will proceed to live a peaceful life from then on. Otherwise, the system will have unleashed a very angry, revengeful monster on that traumatized community.

There is no rehabbing a psychopath, he is missing the part of the brain which houses empathy and sympathy for other human beings. A lot of people seem to always blame the parents. In a lot of cases it may be true but it's not an absolute. Bad kids do happen to loving caring parents.

such lovely girls, all of them. As mum to a teen I can't even think about the possibility of losing my girl to a psycho that was even inside my home, as her boyfriend, somebody that has being treated well.
I don’t know what kind of a person the mother of the murderer is, but if she is a normal mother who tried her best with her child, imagine the situation she must be in now. Lost a child and blamed for not preventing the murder, together with the situation she was already in.
Naturally, I don’t want to downplay the situation of the victims, the pain they must be in is unimaginable to me.

He got less time than she was alive. He got 12 years and she was only 17..that in itself is just wrong!! My opinion it looks like premeditated murder.
As a mother of two daughters this is extremely disturbing. The poor parents and her darling friends . 😥
