Actually, once I make some cool patches, before I start, I think about new rules to follow. The DAW may afford 2+ ways to do any one task, and tabula rasa is very daunting. The blank slate provides too many mind blowing possibilities. You need boundaries to work within. I think the human brain mostly does not think outside the box. We are like dogs, members of packs and tribes, and this primitive thought creeps in. Instead, redefine what the box is. The best thing I do is throw away theory, influences, and genre thematics. My rules spawn off of sound patches sometimes. The patch tells me what would work with it.

Good stuff here Chris. Just now coming across this. I did have a question for you. What is the difference between doing a separate bus channel and sending instrument channels to it vs say doing grouping your tracks and putting your bus on the group channels, then out to a master or pre-master? I have been typically using group channel buses, but I also do create a separate track for kick+bass, and sometimes others. Just curious. Let me know and thank you for all that you do!

Your a tease Chris! Carving out frequencies is something I’m struggling with. We chatted before about EQ tutorial on a track… thought this was it ;) - keep them coming - helping long time!

I see you're using all audio clips, and other producers do the same while arranging... What is the benefit? I tend to just work with midi clips since you don't need to bounce, there's no clipping when cutting up clips, etc. What am I missing?

I was thinking about your channel last night. Haven't seen a video in a couple of weeks. Ate breakfast this morning and BOOM! Got a notification. ✌️

What a fantastic masterclass on arrangement. I was particularly inspired and moved by the “take your listener on an adventure” message. I really appreciate all you put into sharing these insights with us Chris! As a newbie in the space I signed up for your Patreon and am blown away by the amount of amazing resources and content. Diving into the next step in my journey as a producer has never been more fun!

Right. My best tracks ….were in my opinion minimal. Then the tracks I thought were decent at the time were suupppppper busy. So busy.
