Keep up the good work. Some beauties. No better way to spend some time with a good friend. I spend my summers crushing salmon and bottom fish on vancouver island and live for it
Freaking A right on guys. I freaking miss these days, unfortunately my local river in Northern Cal have plummeted so harsh over the past 15 years. With too many people taking the rivers water, drought and the impact of years of vineyards, legally we can’t even target my home waters Chinook. So sad man, not to say that I don’t travel farther north and smack the Nooks, but watching you guys here as kids reminds me of what me and buddy’s, or me and my pops could do daily in a 20 minute drive to the local spot. Anyways keep it going boys, I not only love salmon and steelhead, I literally build my life around them. Looks as if you guys are on your way as well.
Yeah it is sad how the feather went to crap thank DWR . But as for the American they had hella fish return last year 2023 in fact there was still spawning chinook until march. And I have to say since the revitalization of the spawning grounds and the enhancements they added the steelhead return was impressive first time seeing g fish equal to those in size of the smith and mad
Guys, what a great time you had! I am from Poland and thinking about visiting Oregon for fly fishing. What's the best time you'd recommend for targeting chinook and steelhead? Thanks
Awesome video. Quick question though, as I am new to the sport. The fish that Mitchell caught looked like it had a fully grown adipose fin, which I thought was the indicator for wild fish vs. hatchery fish which have clipped adipose fins? Is that true, or am I completely missing something?
You can keep wild chinook in this river. It was his decision to take it - personally I would have released this fish but it was his first salmon on the fly and and he wanted to do so..
This is incredible! Thank you! For once a good fishing video. Wanted to get your advice. We’re heading out to the Smith (north and south fork) later in the month. Bringing 8wt fly rod (nxt) with floating line. Still haven’t picked out flies, but thinking streamers. Do you think this kind of outfit / location would work for salmon & steelhead? Appreciate any tips from the locals. Thanks!
What is a ballpark hatchery return to this river? I've got a bunch of rivers I want to try targeting in Washington, but I know it is very hard to catch Kings on the fly. You made it look easy!
Love that video you guys killed it. I know you probably won't tell me but what river are you guys fishing? Really want to get out there I live right on the border of Oregon and California. Really would like to check that River out thanks..
This was so fun to watch! Keep up the great videos! I just got my fishing licence,. I'm looking forward to try to catch some salmon. How come the fish just stop moving when you are about to take them out? I thought they would flop around more
People think you have to wrestle the fish onto shore and manhandle them but honestly it’s super easy to grab their tail while they are still in the water. They seem to do docile for a second which makes it super easy
@humboldtfishing7328 good to know sorry for the two separate comments just I had a buddy say salmon don't eat streamers but I assume since there bright it's pisses the fish off
Hey man are you still in eureka? I’m heading there this weekend and was wondering if you’d wanna fish with a viewer? Never fished there before and would love to learn some spots and tricks.
I got a fly rod 8 weight trying to figure out what flys to use for fall chinook in tide water and rivers I'm all new to it do any of yall have any tips?
It’s all about timing. These fish stage in the lowest pools of the rivers before and during the first few rains of the season. Sink tip with clouser minnow, comet, or leech will always catch fish. Text me on @humboldtfishing Instagram for any other questions
Agreed. The only wild fish kept was the biggest one, it was my friend’s first salmon ever and with a fight like that, I’d say he earned it. But you’re right, the wild fish should be preserved and the hatchery fish are there for us to keep. ✌️
It's better for the fishery to let the really big wild fish go, and keep the hatcheries. Just think of that monsters babies swimming back up the river in a few years, if you had let it go of course.
Thanks for watching!!! More videos on the way...
Do you guide?
Thinking about it
Can you share the exact location please? Thank you

30lb king on a fly. simply epic. This is the kind of material for world class T.V shows
As native Oregon boy, this is like right at home! You guys embody the true soirit of old Northwest.
Subscribed from Idaho! Love your attitudes and respect for the fish. I dig old Medalist reels, so that was amazing for me to see.
Beautiful video, great job guys! I love that river also. I can not count the times people ask me where I caught it.
Love when they're chrome! Nice and fresh still

Thanking the fish for a good fight, then release. Class!
They killed a huge wild one, though. Stupid.

That was some great footage . Those chinooks were beautiful . Do you think fly fishing for salmon could be extremely effective on most small rivers?
