    Lens (or is it the film) does not seem very "contrasty." But no matter what camera it always comes down to the photographer and your captures are spot on. Well spotted that UFO.

    • @theoldcameraguy
      @theoldcameraguy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks - The low contrast nature of the images is mostly due to my relative inexperience with developing when I shot these and the fact that I used a monobath. This is a fun little shooter overall.

    Sadly have bought one of these and the film does not load, has an error message and there is of course no manual way to load. Sadly there appears no fix. I have noted this is very common with these, and to be wary when buying.

    I just picked one of these up at an estate sale. I can't wait to put a roll through it. I thought my Olympus XA was small, this is neck and neck with it. Anyways, regarding the infinity setting, do you know if when active, does it set focus to the hyper focal distance of 5.45ft? I went on my DOF app, and if this is the case this would be a great street camera cause at that distance you have focus from 2.73ft to infinity...assuming it's shooting at f16.

    • @theoldcameraguy
      @theoldcameraguy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can’t find any info about the infinity setting/hyperfocal distance, but I think you’ll really enjoy shooting this camera - Thanks for watching!

      @@theoldcameraguy thanks for the response, and yes, I already do enjoy the size and feel of this camera. I do hope the images come out as I intended.
      I took a chance this weekend. I threw a fresh battery and a roll of Superia Xtra 400 in it and set the camera to infinity and took a bunch of shots. I'll update when I develop the roll.

      @@theoldcameraguy I've got couple of questions. You state that the aperture stops down from f3.5 to f16. I have the manual, which came with mine, and it states f3.5 to f22. Should I write this off as a typo? Also, do you know the shutter speed range? I can't find info on this anywhere. And finally, while loaded with film, I noticed that when I remove the battery and then reinsert it, the camera briefly powers up then powers off. In between, the lens extends then retracts and the film advances one frame. I did this several times, not realizing what was occurring with regards to the frame advance. I lost several frames. I don't know if it's damaged or designed like that, which would be a poor design TBH. Thanks for any feedback.

    • @theoldcameraguy
      @theoldcameraguy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bert T. Kataan.org lists the shutter range as ¼ to 1/250 second. Both Camera-wiki and kataan list minimum aperture of f16, but your manual’s probably right. The battery thing is curious. The battery won’t die after one roll, so the most you should lose is one shot if you need to replace the battery.

    In your opinion, what would you pick up between this Nikon af600 and Yashica t4?

    • @theoldcameraguy
      @theoldcameraguy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have both and I find that the Yashica T4 has a sharper lens, but the Nikon can be a better bargain. Yashica T4s are selling between $400-$500 on eBay. I’m planning on selling mine - will be asking $350 so I can invest in a Pentax 67. If you have the budget for it, the T4 is hard to beat. Both are excellent cameras.

    • @Na-wg9jr
      @Na-wg9jr 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      theoldcameraguy I like the sharpness and contrast of T4 better but as you say the price of the Nikon is quite much cheaper. I’ll try to find the reasonable price for T4 and might get a hands on one. Thank you!:))
