    I seem to recall people commenting when you were installing that water system outside about freeze protection.

    It is amazing that people still don't winterize in the USA. Even though you get really hot in the summer, you get really cold in the winter as well. I guess each one of you will live and learn. Good luck.

      That's a Texas thing. We're in denial that it gets cold here.

    Lived in LH not far from you till we moved to Missouri last March. We had well problems too! At least we never lost the well head! $$$ When it got really cold, I ended up using a propane tank top heater to make it 50 degrees in the wellhouse.

    FYI renntorque is a device that is a torque multiplier. 1 to 95 or something like that. Also the 7k quick jacks are longer and will not tip when lifting. However they are taller and you'll need to drive on a 1x or 2x to really be able to move them around under low cars. Ask me how I know! You might also find they lift a bit higher which is convenient at times. Lastly the automatic heat tape is great for those chilly events on the plastic pipe.
    That by pass you made is great and really should have been done initially. Good job. I like where your channel is going. Keep it up.

    Use some spray foam in-between the building by the water pipe. I think they sell like heated blankets for water pipes like for RVs or something

    @93LT1RamAir ปีที่แล้ว

    Your best bet is going to insulate the water shed. After that you can get heat lamps that you can swap in during cold weather. You can even have a home automation like home assistant switch on the lights at a certain temp, then shut them off at a higher temp.

    Reminded me of the great northeast. It gets really really cold here for days at a time.
    Lots of pipe insulation....shutoffs...and securing connections.
    Then you go to work the next day and pray.
    Great video though.

    If you have shop air (I guess you do?) then back blow (ohh errr) the water pipes from the building to the water pump house before it gets cold. If you fit a dump just after your pump you can basically purge the whole system. If you crack your taps in the building it will actually suck it all back too. I used to do this with my pool house and you can get 90% of the water out - just dont blow the air full pressure - just gradually - have 2 people one at the dump and blow the air in at the highest point on your system. I used a big check valve with a dry break on it. HTH.

    • @normalguysupercar
      @normalguysupercar  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can't use the open the taps trick because there's an accumulator inside the building so it would just bleed off from the accumulator.

    • @auwz66
      @auwz66 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@normalguysupercar Ah jeez. You would have to put a bypass in around it then. Bit of a pain I guess. I guess your main issue is outside so you could prob drain it back outside to keep as much air as possible thus not breaking the filters again. I have seen them fail exactly how yours did a few times they just blow right off the threads.

    You need 1” rigid foam lining the walls of your metal shed and air sealed with caulk and can spray foam. Then you use an oil filled electric radiator heater to maintain even heat PLUS an external 120vac “outdoor” (inside shed) thermostat operating it. Then you can set to 50f and leave it on year round. Place the heater near the broken pipe area. No gfci on 120v circuit.
    Use a WiFi temperature sensor by Govee or Honeywell (both battery powered with low battery warnings). I use both on well pump sheds and small greenhouses.
    If you have pvc pipes exposed outside, heat tape them. But a better solution for those runs is the black 3/4 or 1” poly water pipe made for the purpose (Ace Hardware and big box). Use it outside or shallow buried in a continuous run inside the shed to inside your building. Worse case it will freeze but not break. I typically enclose the poly in a 2” electrical grey conduit for mechanical protection.
    Finally have a 30 lb propane tank and propane radiant head inside shed ready to go for no electric power heat backup. Remember, if there is a pump in the shed it can freeze as well. Long freezes are much worse and need these measures. Live near New Braunfels and have dealt with these issues for decades.

      Govee H5179 about $33. Excellent, has data storage and realtime trends.

    • @rj.parker
      @rj.parker ปีที่แล้ว

      Honeywell CHW3610W1001 Wi-Fi Water Leak And Freeze Detector about $100. Can also detect water with a cable sensor. These are also good inside building by water heater, washing machines, under sink and near air handler condensate leak points.

    • @normalguysupercar
      @normalguysupercar  ปีที่แล้ว

      The wifi won't go in the shed, or more accurately, it can't get out of the shop. It's basically a giant faraday's cage. :(

    • @rj.parker
      @rj.parker ปีที่แล้ว

      Use a Tplink powerline wifi extender. One module cables to router and plugs into 120v the second or third module plugs in inside shed or remote outbuilding. Generally good for 25 mb WiFi at remote location.

      @@normalguysupercar get some foam insulation on the walls and in between the shed-building and then your space heater has a chance. Just insulation on the pipe is not going to protect the valve and filters. The big tank of water will also act as a heat mass if you insulate the shed walls.
