My cat is named Luna. She is 16 years old. She looked moon colored as a kitten. I was surprised how popular the name is. I didn't know that there was a popular black anime cat named Luna. I have actually met more dogs named Luna than cats though.

I named her that because I love the moon in general, it's always something I look for when it's going through the phases and taking photos of it, then lastly Luna from Harry Potter. ☺

When my sister was in undergrad her and her roommates had a cat they named Luna. The roommate that got her named her after the Harry Potter character but my sister who grew up with Sailor Moon thought of Luna from there instead.

my current cat, adopted at 6, is now Adora because when we got her the shelter had named her Dora "because she wanders". We had a live-in foreign student named Dora at the time so changed her to Adora and even at 17 that is still appropriate as she is a beautiful long -haired tortoiseshell and is very cuddly. I did have a kitty a long time ago named BelleBelle adopted when I got her brother VanVan, both named in part for the towns in which I adopted them. How funny we are :)

I don't currently have any with these names, but a few years back I did have a "Phoebe, a Lily, and a Nala", sadly, they have all passed on. I also had a dog named Coco, although WE spelled it Koko. My son currently has a pitbull named Luna. I love that name, I have it on my list for a future cat!!😼

Never used any of those names for my girls. My present girl is Juliette (named by Mom because she resembled my sister's cat, Romeo). Then I had Umi, Kame (kazi) who was a whirlwind of action. Kame also had FELV, and didn't live long. I adopted her knowing this because my boy kitty I had at the time was 7 and had it. He lived to 8. I am sure he had it all along. His name was Shiro. Other girls were Kimiko, Piwacket, Mitzie, and Madame Butterfly. Boys were Thomas Henry Edward Cat (aka T.H.E. Cat) I had as a kid named by Dad, Tardy (he was born in the vet office a day after Mitzie had a stillborn one on my bed as I slept), Thor, and my present boy is Rokuro (nicknamed Roku).
The only advice I have for choosing names (cats, dogs or kids), imagine yourself standing on your doorstep, calling them in. If you feel like a damned fool it's not for you.
Hihi, our female cats have completely different names than the usual. Our eldest catlady is named White Jade, she will be 15 this year. Our other catlady is called Aminda. This is a word in the language Esperanto. It means Amaiable, or worth loving. Aminda is our red Maine Coon lady.
I’m a huge Lucille ball fan (you can tell by my profile pic) and I’ve always said if I ever get a female ginger cat I’m going to name it Lucy. I’m not very original when it comes to naming my pets lol my male tuxedo cat is named Soxy because of his white paws.
Funnily enough, back in the 1970's, my family had a cat named Kiki. Actually it was another name for Kitty. I don't know if she had a name that we gave her, but when Mom would call her, she'd call "Kikikiki!" so we all did.

When I first got my cat, I was told I adopted a male cat and his name was Percy Jackson. After about 4 months, it was time for Percy’s annual check up/vaccinations and lo and behold I was told Percy is actually female! We decided Percy would keep her name…now short for Persephone instead of Percy Jackson! 😻We love her!!!

Turns out she had and I was able to track the original shelter that had implanted it. Where we initially thought she was a 2 year old male, we learned she was a 6 year old female and had given birth to a litter at this shelter. What a life she led!!! Just glad she ended up with us 💕😻💕
One of my cats had a similar mix-up! Our Harley was initially thought to be a female, then the vet said Harley was a hermaphrodite because of having ambiguous genitalia. We later found out he was male when the time came for him to be neutered and they also did a spay incision to make sure he didn’t have any female organs lurking around in there too. Thank the gods Harley is a gender-neutral name, because it took us a month just to quit referring to him as “she!”
My devon rex is named Honey. My two previous cats were Aramis (Moose) and D'artagnia (Tanya). I was told she was a boy so I named her D'artagnan as in the 4th musketeer.
My ex-neighbour knocked on my door and said ‘I’m moving, do you want my cats? If not I’ll put them down’. 🤬 one was a tiny little kitten called Cat. I renamed her Lilliput because she was so tiny - lily for short. She had all sorts of problems (neglect and/or abuse) and had to have her hip removed. It didn’t stop her mountaineering adventures and she lived to be 21.

Molly like Molly Weasley on the 19th place is a bit far, but then Lily as 3rd like Lily Potter nee Evans, Bella as 2nd like Bellatrix Lestrange (she was called Bella there by Voldy & death eaters and her sister Narcissa) and of course Luna as 1st like Luna Lovegood. My cat's name was Koko Kitty. But I have always called her Kitty, which she probably didn't mind at all. Instead of "c" in the name, I spelled it with "k" because of my home town's name has "Koko" in it.
The closest name any of our cats over the years got to this list was Kitty, but her name was actually Cat. She was a street cat that, after her litter and spaying, was taken to my grandparents farm. They ended up with a small herd of cats. Always fed some kibble every day, but they sure kept the property clear of vermin. She lived a long happy life there and I'll never forget her.
19: I was almost sure he was gonna say Molly is a nickname for MDMA. Good for a cat who's fur feels so good when you per her or if she likes to roll around on the floor. Out of my two female cats 1 sorta made the list.But the only sort of nick name I have for my cat Lucile is to say it with a lisp as is "Luthile". When we rescued her she had a cleft lip and no front teeth. So we make fun of how she would say it if she could talk. My other female cart has a very unique name that I'm sure no one else has. She was just a 6 week old abandoned kitten when we rescued her. Her name is Pu'uiki. We found her behind our neighborhood where Cane Haul rd meets Pu'uiki rd. I thought that sounded mo bettah than "Cane Haul" for a cat.
Ooooo lovely. When we hadn't been married very long we adopted a tatty little tabby kitten named her Marmie she grew into a beautiful cat. I used to talk with her all the time, and she with me. She was the reason I came to know The Lord. We had her many many years. Alas, I only have happy memories now of both my husband and precious Marmie, both gifts from God.
My 2 Adult daughters who live with us adopted two female kitties Flora and Macy... the story behind Flora.. before my daughters went down to the humane society to adopt they both said they would change their cats names when they were adopted. My eldest daughter fell in love with the tiny kitten named Flora. Flora was my mother’s name and She passed away 5 years ago and I never saw a lot of “Floras” in my day a few but not many (mostly Flors) My daughter decided to keep the name Flora❤️ My other daughter decided Macy looked like a Macy so she kept her name too🥰

Awe! My sweet cat Sylvia prior to being adopted by my sister and I was named Luna! We loved the name but changed it after seeing her and we best decided that she fit the name Sylvia after the cartoon character Sylvester the cat. Our boy cat is named Thomas after Thomas and Jerry! My bff named one of her cats Phoebe. I had a Sassy & Angel. Sassy was most likely more popular when I was little due to the Homeward Bound movies having been released during that time. I also wanted a cat with that as her name already because of the Sassy from those movies regardless of the breed & I found her! 😻 Maybe it'll make a comeback in the future. Angel was a ferral born kitten that I believed God hand picked for us to give a loving home to just six years after we adopted Sassy. Both of them are now sadly gone.
I have a female rescue cat that I got through my vet. Her teeth were bad and all of them had to go.. So I decided to name her Gummy. I think that is a fitting name for a toothless cat.

My beautiful wee tortie tabby girl was called Rosalie after the Thin Lizzy song , she was 15 and a half years old when sadly she went to sleep a couple of months ago ,it happened so quickly and she never suffered she developed a mass of cancer within weeks and it was crushing her lungs . I have sobbed so much and it breaks my soul with missing her so much , i know it was the right thing to do so she would not go through painfull invasive treatment but the guilt i feel is huge . Until the end she purred and snuggled in my lap as i told her how much she was loved . she was with me since her birth in 2006 and she gave me many years of love and happiness .
I've had my own Phoebe, Zoe and Lily. My Penny is currently 14 yo. I've also been owned by Blackie, Missy, Pier, Baxie, and Hope. Pier was rescued from the waterfront. A tiny rescue kitten I named Baxter turned out to be female. Baxie is a nickname and sounded girly enough to me. Hope was rescued from a hopeless situation hiding up underneath a parked car. She's now 9 mo. (I've also been owned by 13 male cats. My Cody is currently 12 yo.)
We adopted 2 bengal cross kittens brother and sister in September along with a ragdoll cross male. All are black but the little girl has what can only be described as a peter pan collar marking around her neck and what looks like little white ankle sock on her 4 paws. I called her Wednesday after Wednesday Addams or Weddi for short. Shes the only Wednesday at our vets. The two lads are Binx after the cat in Hocus Pocus and Salem after the cat in Sabrina the teenage witch as hes Salems double and temperament. 🤣🇬🇧
Luna also came from Sailor Moon, the black cat's name. The white cat's name was Artemis. My female cats names were Kitty Biscuits and Mena (not a nickname) My current cat is male, and his name is Geroo.

Hihi, our female cats have completely different names than the usual. Our eldest catlady is named White Jade, she will be 15 this year. Our other catlady is called Aminda. This is a word in the language Esperanto. It means Amaiable, or worth loving. Aminda is our red Maine Coon lady.

When I first got my cat, I was told I adopted a male cat and his name was Percy Jackson. After about 4 months, it was time for Percy’s annual check up/vaccinations and lo and behold I was told Percy is actually female! We decided Percy would keep her name…now short for Persephone instead of Percy Jackson! 😻We love her!!!

Turns out she had and I was able to track the original shelter that had implanted it. Where we initially thought she was a 2 year old male, we learned she was a 6 year old female and had given birth to a litter at this shelter. What a life she led!!! Just glad she ended up with us 💕😻💕

One of my cats had a similar mix-up! Our Harley was initially thought to be a female, then the vet said Harley was a hermaphrodite because of having ambiguous genitalia. We later found out he was male when the time came for him to be neutered and they also did a spay incision to make sure he didn’t have any female organs lurking around in there too. Thank the gods Harley is a gender-neutral name, because it took us a month just to quit referring to him as “she!”

I think you underestimate how many people naming their cat "Lucy" are just settling for a socially acceptable way to name them "Lucifer".
I like how on that list are 4 names from Harry Potter, 3 taking the very top! Molly like Molly Weasley on the 19th place is a bit far, but then Lily as 3rd like Lily Potter nee Evans, Bella as 2nd like Bellatrix Lestrange (she was called Bella there by Voldy & death eaters and her sister Narcissa) and of course Luna as 1st like Luna Lovegood. Well HP didn't invent those names. Some owners likely named their cats this way for other reasons, especially with Molly and Bella but Luna as well.

The closest name any of our cats over the years got to this list was Kitty, but her name was actually Cat. She was a street cat that, after her litter and spaying, was taken to my grandparents farm. They ended up with a small herd of cats. Always fed some kibble every day, but they sure kept the property clear of vermin. She lived a long happy life there and I'll never forget her.

My beautiful wee tortie tabby girl was called Rosalie after the Thin Lizzy song , she was 15 and a half years old when sadly she went to sleep a couple of months ago ,it happened so quickly and she never suffered she developed a mass of cancer within weeks and it was crushing her lungs . I have sobbed so much and it breaks my soul with missing her so much , i know it was the right thing to do so she would not go through painfull invasive treatment but the guilt i feel is huge . Until the end she purred and snuggled in my lap as i told her how much she was loved . she was with me since her birth in 2006 and she gave me many years of love and happiness .

I've had my own Phoebe, Zoe and Lily. My Penny is currently 14 yo. I've also been owned by Blackie, Missy, Pier, Baxie, and Hope. Pier was rescued from the waterfront. A tiny rescue kitten I named Baxter turned out to be female. Baxie is a nickname and sounded girly enough to me. Hope was rescued from a hopeless situation hiding up underneath a parked car. She's now 9 mo. (I've also been owned by 13 male cats. My Cody is currently 12 yo.)
We adopted 2 bengal cross kittens brother and sister in September along with a ragdoll cross male. All are black but the little girl has what can only be described as a peter pan collar marking around her neck and what looks like little white ankle sock on her 4 paws. I called her Wednesday after Wednesday Addams or Weddi for short. Shes the only Wednesday at our vets. The two lads are Binx after the cat in Hocus Pocus and Salem after the cat in Sabrina the teenage witch as hes Salems double and temperament. 🤣🇬🇧
