I happend upon this PBS show years ago and saw this lovely woman singing this song and it touched me. I could not forget it. She did a FABULOUS job. I absolutely loved it.
I am moved by her performance.. Well done Skye! Never mind whoever thinks otherwise, it's just opinions and tastes that differ... Some of us love what you do because the heart is there.. and your talent offered to us as a gift. Thank you..
Absolutely wonderful! It is painful to see all the negative comments below... If One does not know how to respect and love one another then he or she does not know anything. It isn't easy to perform in a large crowd I give her respect just for going up there. I enjoyed the song and the video. Thanks for posting!
Is all you can do is belittle and deride. She has a beautiful voice, and does well justice to the song. Wonderful, real emotion, unique voice, what a wonderful tribute to a great song. How to resurrect a great song. The Music s Great. Wonderful
She Great! I love the way she sings this song. I'm an Artist, and I cannot get over some of these comments here, but there is no way these people would ever understand passion or true inspiration, and to me they are what is ugly in this world, and I feel sorry for them.
Give her the credit she is due. It takes a lot of courage to sing on stage. Remember the only way you are going to learn is to sing all you can in all venues. And practice and sing. And observe and practice. Most of all have fun while you do.
Tori Amos played this on her tour this year (also uloaded on youtube). I'd never heard it before and I had tears in my eyes. I love the poetic lyrics... A beautiful song...
People should just appreciate the song. It doesn't matter if she's not perfect at it, no need for bad comments, if you don't like it then just dont watch it:) I think she has talent:)
The Don Mclean original is such a masterpiece that it's best left uncovered. kestrel 1973: on behalf of sentimental Americans everywhere we offer you a collective "bite me".
What is wrong with all you people who only know how to belittle or deride. I love this, Skye Dyre's version of this song. I don't see how anyone can say that she is making fun of or destroying the song. She compliments it and adds to the library of other artists who have paid hommage to Don McLean by covering it. The song is beautiful, and she does it justice. I would never have known this song if not for her and now it is one of my favorites. She pays well tribute to Don with her song.
i completely agree. i don't like when people take great songs like this and use it to show off their own voices. it's not that kind of a song, and she sings it almost as if it's about herself and her dad, as if with no appreciation of van gogh, who it's actually about. she probably doesn't even know anything about van gogh's life, nor i doubt she cares
I like this version of this song. She did it right for me. This was noit my first time listening to it either. I am also a sound guy that's been in it for a while, to know what's good and this was a great job.
i think its beautiful ok its no don maclean but she does get the story out there with the feelings in her voice.. try to listen to it with your eyes close.. and try to feel what kind of emotion she's trying to get across..
This song means more to me than any song in existence - it describes the pain and suffering of Schizophrenia with beauty and eloquence. My aunts took their lives because of this disease. This version really pisses me off for some reason. If you are going to sing a song with such serious, painful subject matter, PLEASE know what you are singing about, and bring it to the song.
i just heard the original and this, noting that i ve never heard this song b4 and in my humble opinion she sings it very well in a way, better than the original...but every artist has their own way of taste and style and delivery.remember that van gogh never sold a painting in his life being told he is not good enough...very well sung sky...tell papa dukes i said hello...be good
To all the ignorants and snobs (a more frequent combination than one would think) who have rushed to denigrate this young woman (without probably really listening to her), you are obviously getting everything mixed up here. Of course Don McLean is a fabulously gifted and sensitive songwriter (that I dearly love myself), but I honestly don't think he would have been unhappy with this version. The interpretation here is original, lovely and full of well-assumed feelings. Applause for that singer!
A me piace la versione di Don, ma anche questa è molto bella. Uno stile diverso ma comunque bella, e lei riesce ad esprimere sentimento molto bene, e anche una bella voce. I love the Don' version, but this is a great version too. A different style but still very good, full with feelings.
Don McLean never sang a song called "Starry Starry Night". On the 1971 album "American Pie" he included a song called "Vincent" that sounds exactly like this video.
This song is not meant to be sang without a guitar. If you ever want to learn how to play this song, the emotions and the connection you have with this classic song is throught the acoustic sound of the guitar. I don't think she did a terrible job but she did miss the whole point of this song..."just man and guitar" and his soulful music through the life of Vincent Van Gough. Nothing compare to the original version..Need to sing it with a guitar on your lap.
Hi there You are all too hard on her. Go in front of a mirror and sing it yourself, see if it sounds better than her singing! She has a great voice! I am amazed; her voice has rare warmth that melted my soul. The song is also one of my favourite. I am sure if this was recorded in a studio it would sound really great! Her father has all the reasons in the world to be proud of her!
she has a good voice , sings well, you can tell she even feels the emotion of the song and has real sincerity, however some songs are just untouchable and she should have gone for something else
Haha I understand both sides of the argument in the comments here. The girl is a very good singer, but the song lends better to folk-style. It is not meant to be sang as a pop song. ^_^
I don't think it's a matter of not having a voice it is "NO FEELING" perhaps if she knew the story behind the song, or maybe had understood it, she would sound better, what da ya think?
The difficulty in capturing this song is that it was a reaction to Don McLean's personal experience upon seeing Vincent's work and understanding the pain endured during its creation, so there are very few if any performers who can do this song right. This rendition does sound too positive and does not communicate the misunderstanding that Don realized most of the world has for people who contribute such beauty to it.
I agree with you! I almost would think that she doesn't know english, but has learned the song phonetically, and perhaps that is why she appears to have no understanding of the lyric. just a guess on my part. however I did notice she says "thank-you" in english at the end. so I'm probably wrong....anyway, she has a good voice, and it must have been a n honor for her to perform in front of such a big crowd....
I don't understand people are talking about bad stuff to her vincent van gogh painted a picture called starry starry night he did not live long he only lived till 30 cause he cut off his ear and was very very sick
WOW. I don't know how it's possible to murder a beautiful song like this. The lack of musical talent brings to mind the collection of tuneless sound known as the Friday song by Rebecca Black.
@OdairFernandes I don't think that's accurate. Look, she has a nice voice, but it just seemed to me like she was acting throughout the song, for example why is she smiling @1:30 after singing "weathered faces lined in pain"? If she spent less time worried about what she looked like on stage and focused on the tune and what she was singing about, then I think she could sing a version I could enjoy, I just wasn't feeling it this time.
This version was not good compared to Don's. But I agree with Bridgeman, Chloe Agnew's is pretty good. If you want to hear a more haunting one, listen to Josh Groban's. That one actually gave me chills.
Skye Dyer is the daughter of motivational speaker Wayne Dyer. She was a school teacher who decided she wanted to learn to sing. This is one of her first performances before such a large crowd.
@@gwendolynechols7888 oh my gosh!! I have been listening to Wayne since...uh, since before Skye was even born probably! I've listened to his tapes, read his books...just never got to hear him in person. Thanks so much for the info! I hope to hear much more from Skye!!
APPLAUSE! doesn´t matter who sings it, matters when you hear it! FloWrisk more feelings and meaning and less technique can be fine. BTW "..." at the end means no end, means you´re depressed. Feel better.
I happend upon this PBS show years ago and saw this lovely woman singing this song and it touched me. I could not forget it. She did a FABULOUS job. I absolutely loved it.
I think she has a wonderful voice, and I admire anyone who has the courage to get on a stage and sing in front of others.
I truly enjoyed her performance as we see the heart behind it. Thank you Skye
So touching to see Wayne Dyer watch his daughter so proudly and with such love. ❤
i love her voice and she sang this song with compassion..
thank you for choosing this song, of all of them out there, to sing
I am moved by her performance.. Well done Skye! Never mind whoever thinks otherwise, it's just opinions and tastes that differ... Some of us love what you do because the heart is there.. and your talent offered to us as a gift. Thank you..
Without a doubt the best version of this song ever ................
You all don't get it. This is a beautiful song. To be kind is a beautiful way to live life. She is following her passion and I loved it.
This has always been my favorite performance and Skye is just beautiful. RIP Doctor Dwyer.
I love her so much..she has such a pretty voice and she is so pretty..a really nice rendition of the song
I miss Dr Wayne Dyer so so much 😢😢😢❤
Beautiful voice, lovely vocal performance. I'm listening now.
This gives me chills. Beautiful. ...

The eerily looking person staring at her on stage, is her father, an inspirational speaker.
BRAVO GIRL,, i listened to it four times,,,,damn there's a lot of jealous people in here,,hiding behind thier computers
She Great! I love the way she sings this song. I'm an Artist, and I cannot get over some of these comments here, but there is no way these people would ever understand passion or true inspiration, and to me they are what is ugly in this world, and I feel sorry for them.
The ones that spread hate- they are what this song is about and how he felt.(Vincent)
great voice and beautiful girl. wow , keep up the great work.
Wow fantastic!
in awe of WHAT exactly have you ever even heard the song it's past her TALENT what little she may posess
She is a very good singer and she did a good job on this song. Don't pay attention to the people that are jealous of you.
very beautifully sung....GODBLESS
Give her the credit she is due. It takes a lot of courage to sing on stage. Remember the only way you are going to learn is to sing all you can in all venues. And practice and sing. And observe and practice. Most of all have fun while you do.

So Beautiful ❤
You all don't get it. This is a beautiful song. To be kind is a beautiful way to live life.
beautiful!
I will give a thumbs up to anyone who can do this song, but she murdered it! Wait, let me hear a little more.... yup she murdered it.
People should just appreciate the song. It doesn't matter if she's not perfect at it, no need for bad comments, if you don't like it then just dont watch it:) I think she has talent:)

i love this song :o)
Great Dr Dyer...
Screw off, this version is beautiful
canta hermosoooooo!!!!!!!!,nadie lo hace como el autor, porque no tiene los mismos sentimientos
te felicito darling!!!

This is probably the only exception to the rule, "Even bad publicity is good publicity".
Absolutely 👍 Beautiful ❤ 2:58

i think she has a beautiful voice. i like the original, but am a bit surprised by how many people seem to hate this version
Thank you for giving me access to such a beautiful voice.
This is Skye Dyer, the daughter of Dr. Wayne W, Dyer, for those asking who is this singer
This song was dedicated by Don Mclean to the memory of Vincent Van Gogh, the artist. This girl does a good rendition.
Beautiful-thank you.
This song means more to me than any song in existence - it describes the pain and suffering of Schizophrenia with beauty and eloquence. My aunts took their lives because of this disease.

There are certain songs that should not touched and this is one of them.
pretty version .. i love it
OMG! WHAT HATERS!!! she has a beautiful voice!

toinks! 1000% no feelings, she's only showing the talent to sing
LMAO at 0:16
That's how I felt watching her sing this song.

Who says this is a bad cover. I see someone in the audience grabbing a knife....life imitating art!
Haha I understand both sides of the argument in the comments here.

wonderfull, i like it very much, she is awesome:) who is this??

I think I like John McLean's better, but she did a great job. It's not easy to sing this song. She has a lovely voice ^-^
I don't understand people are talking about bad stuff to her vincent van gogh painted a picture called starry starry night he did not live long he only lived till 30 cause he cut off his ear and was very very sick
This sounds a bit like a song by Don McClean called "Vincent".
well done....
Hey its Wayne Dyer!
She slaughtered it. This woman is shameless!
it is the same song, it's called either Vincent or Starry starry night.
pretty good. :)
WOW. I don't know how it's possible to murder a beautiful song like this. The lack of musical talent brings to mind the collection of tuneless sound known as the Friday song by Rebecca Black.
the thing is she's good but she's going fast and it makes it sound like a pop song.
@OdairFernandes
I don't think that's accurate. killed it
I think she would have been booed off a high school talent show stage with this performance. Maybe she should consider hip hop.
i think she tried her best.
your right
That's Dr. Wayne Dyer's Daughter!
She just made Don Mclean roll over in his grave!
And who is this girl singing?
Is there anyone that knows her name?
Would you please let me know?
This version was not good compared to Don's. But I agree with Bridgeman, Chloe Agnew's is pretty good. If you want to hear a more haunting one, listen to Josh Groban's. That one actually gave me chills.
passion??????
LMAO
well what ever "walks away laughing"
Who is this girl? I like her voice
@AngelsHaveDemons Good ear mate
unacceptable
inadmissible
intolerable
impermissible
Not one person in the crowd looks entertained...
ouch.
i think she did a pretty good job. i like her voice. anyone know who she is?

if you listen to what she is saying, she has a problem with the letter N. she says ot, it should be NOT.
That's her father on the stage w/her.
if u don't like how the person sings, maybe u like lady gaga. different people appreciate things differently..
APPLAUSE! doesn´t matter who sings it, matters when you hear it!
FloWrisk more feelings and meaning and less technique can be fine.
BTW "..." at the end means no end, means you´re depressed. Feel better.
certainly.
im about to sample the shit out of this song.
great job
