Ally Bain reminds me of the sort of dispassionate matter of fact islander moors the overnight ferry onto the dock into Orkney in the morning and wanders off home: like it’s nothing. Reassuring dispassion? Yes definitely
I played at playing the guitar and banjo for 15 to 20 years and succeeded only in running the flying squirrels out of the attic. They're now in their cases and the surroundings are more serene around here. I reserve them for critter control and listen to the accomplished players like these guys.
i came over here because of my Sunshine opened a new horizon of mind to listen such type of music. and i am loving it. ------Love can make you do anything.
@@FiddleDeeDee5 That’s nice! My mom was a local fiddle player but her sound got my heart singing a joyful song🥰 What other artists do you love listening to?
Scottish, dear boy, not Irish..., and this was the Scots immigrant music brought over the Atlantic to create the heart of bluegrass. Much as I enjoy bluegrass, Scottish fiddle tunes are the best.
The second tune, "Glass of Beer" is def an Irish tune. Not sure about the first one. But I'll admit I'm not well versed in the differences between Irish and Scottish trad. These tunes are played in Irish sessions, not sure why we're splitting hairs over Scottish vs Irish
Why so he is! I guess I was swamped by all the talent that I missed that one. I remember something I read, way back, about a world famous violinist who, upon leaving a concert was approached by a woman who said, "I'd give anything to play like that!" He replied something to the effect of, "would you practice for hours every day for 30 years?" That hasn't anything to do with left-handed playing, but I thought I'd throw it out there in the midst of talent and much work.
A good start of TS 5. I will preorder the DVD as soon as I get the news from Scotland. But why director Mike Alexander, did you choose another dark and cold cellar? Compare the bright and warm atmosphere in TS 3. I hope everyone knows that TS 2 is released - at last.
yes it's wonderful you should also listen to the first real of transatlantic sessions serious 6 I think it's a little better but absolutely brilliant both
Great track. I love these Ali Bain sessions. Any other good albums by the guy? All the other stuff that I've heard of his has too much squeeze box in the mix
Two fiddle players, both right handed. Dobro is being played right handed, as is the accordion. Upright bass is being played right handed. Drums? Who knows about those guys! Flute: left handed. It's the only one, and he doesn't weigh a ton.
Transatlantic Sessions are the reason we have ears! 😍
I love the music of my/our culture, it never gets old.
This is the royalty of Celtic music!
What can you say brilliant craftsmen love you all XXX🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Some of the best musicians at one place playing together: Super!
Why can’t the Beeb repeat these programmes and show real talent than all the rubbish we have on today?
This is how it was when I was growing up, good music and happy smiles! How I miss those days.
Is it not like that today David!
It doesn't get better than this, so incredible!!! Love it!
I have never heard this before but will listen to it a million times more . ..!

I just love this tune
Amazing transatlantic is the perfect mixing of bluegrass and the Celtic music that it draws its roots from
Is there anything better than Transatlantic Sessions? I'm not sure there is!
No. Nothing
Just found out what you were talking about 6 years ago. Can't thank you enough!
Just found these today. What a treasure.
This is an awesome Irish/bluegrass fusion. The dobro, bass, and drums fit right in and everyone is nailing it! Love it
Jason Biggs Huge SCOTTISH influence!

@@dolcefarniente8768 you are so right. the early scots would have brought this music to the america.
Fantastic happy music brilliant
First tune is Vincent Broderick's "Milky Way". Second is "The Glass of Beer" down in Em/G.
WOW! Just incredible, you all have my admiration for your skills, I just loved this session!
After over three years, I keep coming to this wonderful song.

Lovely stuff!
Brilliant!
Wonderful !
Υπέροχο!!
I love to watch their faces when they're all on a brain-to-brain network. Some would call it a hive mind. Others...the Borg.
I keep wanting to give a thumbs up!!
Soft and mellow feeling
Already loving it..

shit hot......love it!!!!
Just came back for my daily upper, just brilliant! :D
big groove here
It's like a shot of whisky to the arm!
The guitar player is also playing left handed. Man, that was incredible.
John Doyle? Oh this song only scratches the surface of what he can do. Possibly the best acoustic guitarist I have ever heard.
That is an interesting thought. However, if I did practice everyday for thirty years, I am still not sure I would be playing like this. :)
Found this vid. Pretty mad he was my neighbour for about 9 years. Would go in his house and see all sorts of people playing a song
MOAR!

@Musicman1582 Not sure about the first one, but the second one is "The Glass of Beer". Although, it was transversed to how I normally know it.
Oi! B-e-a-utiful!
What are the tunes/set called?? Would love to learn these tunes!! Do you know where I can find them?
The first one is the Milky Way by Vincent Broderick, and the second one is The Glass of Beer in Em/G - some play it in Bm/D.
Thanks for the correction on the first tune...was going nuts trying to find it on The Session. D:
eyyy, el guitarrista y el bouzuki son zurdos!! Molaaa!

I would buy all the TS's as a boxed set dvd and cd! somebody help me!
.. not to forget Donal Lunny
Does somebody knows the name of first 15 seconds peace? Thank you.
Great stuff but I think the first reel is "The Milky Way" not "The Boys of 25"
love the bowed triplets but it needs the ornaments!
So many lefties in the great band.
😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
Jake west enjoy 🎶🍀🎼👍🎹😇
It's obvious that I need to start playing left handed to be any good at it.
