4:39: melee in front, archers and siege weapons behind the melee line. I'm just going to say it: this battle makes more sense than the battle of Winterfell from GoT S8.
It's nice to see "sense". You know, close to 20 years ago, I watched the third Lord of the Rings movie, and to this day, I sometimes stop, and just think "Why... Why? Why would you cavalry charge mumaks... Why would you do that..."
@@ArtypNk from a tactical point if the elephants got inside minas tirith where they couldnt easily be flanked it would be GG, and as we saw the cavalry was effective once it was able to not be in front of the mumaks IE Eowen hamstrining them or Eomer Arrowspamming the other.
It needs more trenches. for all its failings, the battle of Winterfell at least had one trench. I would need the full context of the battle but as I see it, unless the defending army had little time to prepare, they should have built a system of trenches to abuse the charging army and force them to run around them. With an ample use of trenches the enemy would fall to traps set by the defenders and make the enemy easy pickings for archers and those oil blankets. By the time the enemy got to the phalanx, a good chunk of their forces would be dead and would be forced to retreat if not attack with a reduced army. Even if the enemy knew of the trenches, its still a no man's land and the defenders can pick at them wile comfortable to rest or even wait for reinforcements. Siege warfare is amazing.
@@ArtypNk Rohan had full momentum behind them. The Orcs were retreating and if the Riders retreated, the tide of battle could change just as fast in the enemies favor. They couldn’t fall back to Minas Tirith as the lower levels were swarming with Orcs. The only sound option was to keep the momentum going and charge on ahead

STORM LORD good question my friend.and lucky enough your asking the right man.😀 so how did a small country like Great Britain 🇬🇧 with a vastly smaller population to dominate and completely control an entire sub continent which is now modern day India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka for almost 200 years? Well the answer is quite simple. We were never there to conquer. We were there to trade. The British empire was never one to rape, murder and cause mass genocide. Although if it came to it we could fight like the best of them. We had a much smaller army than the Indians and knew if we wanted to trade we had to get along. We give them Christianity, technology and a good old cup of tea. 😀 Our army is organised and battle ready in case of trouble and was able to call on local tribes when their was trouble. Britain has never fought alone. We kept the local tribes leaders in power almost as a puppet. We policed and made sure tribes kept from attacking each other and causing unrest and generally kept everyone inline. India wasn’t a country like it is now with just one government power. If anyone wanted background info, there are 2 brothers in the good side and one of them will be the new king. This battle was used to see the skill base of the 2 brothers in combat and strategy. You will see that one of them make poor choices and the other does it a better way. The father roots for the “evil brother” and the mother roots for the “good brother”.

Why didn't they do this when the British took over the entire sub-continent?
Because the British had guns. I know it was satire, but just in case it wasn't the answer is simple.
@@th3s3us45 Because that's not how the British took control. It started with territory being leased, then land being directly administered, then increasing British influence until the entire continent was under British influence, not necessarily rule.
