I love this video its visual storytelling is subtle but on point, as the song intros and the band comes together they are in this tighter all white space with very little detail, but as the song gets more complicated they graduate to bigger and bigger spaces as they show off their individual styles and make the instrumentation more and more complicated, as if they are on a journey to reach "the king of guitars in the heavens" eventually reaching open sky and the top of the building with their goal sitting there in judgment, they then play for the "king" wanting for his approval, he sits there and listens, and when he decides they are worthy he joins in their song literally making the guitars sing in harmony accepting them as equals in glory.
@@wynandmorgan9985 oh really? totally didn't know that almost as if the joke is flying right over some people's head, even though the laughing smilies just above your reply 😅
Steve Vai is in a movie called Crossroads from 1986 that stars Ralph Macchio. He's an up and coming blues guitarist and has this guitar battle with Steve Vai at the end! Phenomenal movie!!!
Hollywood & Smoke , the story goes that Vai played a more elaborate solo initially. When mixing down the album , Tim edited Vai's solo. When Vai heard the edit he wasn't very pleased at first but afrer a few listens relented it was a better fit for the song. A great display of mutual respect between these artist.
Funny you are reacting to this since last night at work I was listening to "Drinks with Johnny" (which is a podcast of Johnny Christ of Avenged Sevenfold for those who don't know) and he had Tim and Scott from Polyphia and they were literally talking about Steve Vai and this song among other things. Very interesting and cool stuff.
I fucking love steve Vai, I fucking love polyphia. Great fucking stuff. First time i heard Steve play when this song released a while back. I was like "I forget how good that dude is until I hear him play"
I saw Steve Vai live a few years ago on the Generation Axe tour with Yngwie Malmsteen, Zakk Wylde, Nuno Bettencourt and Tosin Abasi… THAT was a lot of guitars lol. Back in 1990 Steve Vai had a 10 year old guitar player named Thomas McRocklin in his video for ‘The Audience is Listening’ (which is a fun video btw.) So it seems like he’s been supporting young artists for a long time.
Icarus flew too close to the sun, but Hermes/Mercury has wings on his feet (he was fast) Ego death is when you take so much of a psychedelic you can't separate yourself from your environment. You essentially melt into the world. It's a temporary state, but it's a religious experience for some people
It certainly was for me when I did peyote in the desert on the Cherokee reservation. My great grandmother was 100%, and literally lived on the reservation before she met my great grandfather
Great reaction guys! Love this song! If you’re digging the technical guitar playing and want something similar you should check out Liquid Tension Experiment which is basically Dream Theater with no singer. I highly recommend the live version of Paradigm Shift or Acid Rain. Incredible technical playing by all 4 musicians, it’s a sight to behold.
Steve Vai starred in a movie called Crossroads with Ralph machio about the blues and the crossroads where blues legend Robert Johnson became who he was in lore
I really like that yall do commentary before watching the video and then more commentary after watching the video. I like hearing what people think of the music vs. just watching or listening to it.😊
Smokey, Hollywood...this isnt the only additional musician they have on this album. They have Chino Moreno from the Deftones sing on one of their tracks! The song is called "Bloodbath"
One theme with four variations, plus all watching the modest trumpet in the end, after the wall of guitars. Check out the completely OTT video for David Lee Roth - "Yankee Rose" and you'll see some of the other side of Steve Vai.
The best thing about Steve's playing here is his show of restraint. He's famous for smoking that axe, and he could have just ripped off and let loose but he played within the melody of the track and showed how much of a professional and legend he is by not just going insane.
That song went in all kinds of directions... damn those guys are good.... had my head nodding as to a dope beat... Next react: Porcupine Tree- "Trains" Leprous- "Below" Riverside- "Lament" Thrice- "The Artist In The Ambulance" Guns n Roses- "Estranged"
Morning guys! Damn that was really good!!! All of them together were so intricate and good times...very Kool collaboration! Check out Joe satriani too! 👍💯🤓
Give it a try folks. I think somehow you will like them. A Danish rap number called: > Djämes Braun - Fugle (Official Music Video) < You can skip the intro monologue, (if you wish), and start at 0.40. And you should also watch this music video: > Nephew feat. Johnson - Statusopdaterer At Jeg Statusopdaterer. < It is truly Awesome.
Absolutely amazing song. The song title Ego Death I believe refers to three of the greatest guitarist out there today putting their egos aside to make an amazing song. If you pay attention in the video, on the first floor Tim Henson is sitting on the throne, on the second floor Scott LePage is sitting on the throne, and when you get to the roof, Godfather Steve Vai is sitting on the throne. That in my opinion is where the title Ego Death comes from. Their egos were completely put to the side to make this amazing song.
This reminds me of a ps1 soundtrack. If you put a ps1 game in a cd player and skip to track 2 it's all the music. I kinda want to see a bass battle between this guy and les claypool.
You guys have been at this some time now, yet I'm wondering if you're ready to react to and dive into the pond that is Cardiacs. Maybe you could dip your toes in gently by listening to "Dirty Boy" or perhaps "Nurses Whispering Verses" before you get to the unexplainable stuff.
Steve Vai is 64. Played with frank zappa, whitsnake and David Lee Roth. Was one of best guitarists in 80s. This video was so cool
Ever. One of the best guitarists, ever.

I always love Smokey's face during intricate guitar work. His sleepy face always gets me. Love it.
Lovely to see Polyphia supporting smaller artists such as this Steve guy 🥰
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Steve Vai, a "smaller artist"? I don't think so... He's one of the pioneers for guys like Polyphia!

i haven't thought about that movie in years, huge hit of nostalgia right there :)
@@ticozayas6430 It's so good! I haven't seen it in like 30 years though! I really need to rewatch it
In supernatural too

Tender Surrender by Vai will blow your mind. Its a clinic in technicality and emotion. Pure art.

The horn at the end is like a smoke after some sweet lovin. Always enjoy your reviews gents.
Steve Vai did music with a lot of fantastic musician, one of them was Devin Townsend.
Your reaction was great. Thank you.
I fucking love steve Vai, I fucking love polyphia. Great fucking stuff. First time i heard Steve play when this song released a while back. I was like "I forget how good that dude is until I hear him play"
You need to hear Polyphia with Deftones singer Chino "Blood Bath"...wicked tune ❤🇨🇦

Steve vai is a big reason we all know and love devin townsend. Fucking LEGEND
Steve Vai's Tender Surrender (Live) is a common but excellent video for a reaction.
Hollywood really needs to work on his air guitar. It looked like he was having a stroke playing the piano.
And the guy with wings on his feet was Hermes (or Mercurius in Rome)
trivia about Steve Vai Joe Satriani was his teacher
I’m so exited to see Danny carey and Steve via! Go to a concert called Beat
Yall should see the video of Steve Vai playing the triple neck guitar/bass combo, insanity…

You mentioned wanting to hear vocals with Polyphia. Check out ABC w/ Sophia Black! Super cool, as rappers you will have a ton of respect for it.

If you want the METAL version of this band check out UNPROCESSED a German metal band that toured with them and picked up some of their guitar flavors.
The urge to talk shit was so strong because you had no idea who Steve Vai is 😂 but at least you're branching out
If you played Halo 2, steve vai also done the opening soundtrack.
Hey TrashTalkers: Did you know 311 released a new song from their upcoming album? It's called You're Gonna Get It. Can you do that one sometime soon?
