For so many guitarists, you can watch their hands and understand what’s happening. With Tim, even at 1/4 speed, you have to rewind to keep up with his hands. His pick hand is like a fucking spider running up and down the strings. And half of them aren’t even picked, they’re plucked, which just adds this other level of awe to it. Dudes got 5 fingers and 7 strings. And never misses a string. You can’t convince me he doesn’t reveal two extra fingers when the camera points away.
I imagined Ibanez's management sat around seeing this video with smug expressions in their faces, looked at each other, and said "Our freakin' awesome endorsed artists, ladies and gentlemen !"
The past, present, and future, all rolled up into one. Mind-blowingly beautiful. Some of the most complex playing I've ever heard, but with such emotion and severe feeling. Then Mr. Vai shows up. Unreal.
I ended up watching the Closeout ZOOM Meeting between Steve Vai and Polyphia. It was just after the video wrapped up and had just been released. I wasn't expecting much. I almost didn't watch it, but it was in my headphones while I was working on work stuff and let it play. After the regular business stuff and casual talk ... I was immediately struck by the Polyphia guys humility. LOOK AT THE GROUND and almost wait to be spoken to. The questions they were asking Steve were super telling ... and Steve's answers were extremely candid. It felt like I was eavesdropping on a mentorship. I loved how when Tim was asking Steve about how to navigate the politics of this ever evolving music industry ... Steve flat out said that he wanted to ask Polyphia the same question because he would probably learn more from the guys moving forward then he could teach them about how he got there. That turned into a long talk about industry issues from Vai's perspective. The mutual respect was a breath of fresh air after trying to navigate social media lately. Steve went into depth about why he took Polyphia under his wing and the guys were more than happy to be there. I have a feeling that due to the chemistry I witnessed this might just be the beginning of a long and creative relationship. Steve Vai came off as a wise man prophesying the best thing about Polyphia is 10 years away, not the music they will wright so much as the music they will inspire.
That is awesome, I didn't know about that zoom vid. Is it still up? I love listening to Vai in interviews, he is such a wealth of information and he doesn't bullshit. He always showed respect to other musicians. It is cool to hear about this interaction, thanks 👍
Steve Vai is amazing, that solo he did gave me goosebumps. His style fits way too much to Polyphia, his constant use of the whammy bar while soloing and him using these dissonant chords and notes first to create tension and then the cool drop here7:17 before releasing all the build up tension followed in the end the epic tree harmonizing guitar solos is just amazing, this is great example of great instrumental songwriting. Definetly my favorite Polyphia song. I was not sure to feel about it first with Henson's solo at the begining but Scottie's part followed by Vai just made the song for me
I'm late to the party but I've watched the official video last night and I was blown away by this song. And I was blown away even before Steve Vai appeared in the MV. He's just the icing on the cake. For me, this is by far Polyphia's best song. Very complex but also very catchy with that hunting melody. I appreciated your reaction Ryan, as always ;)
The most compelling Ibanez advert ever! LOL Seriously tho, despite having *all* the technique available to him, Vai's maturity & depth of musicality saw him choose here to play lyrically, with a healthy dollop of good ol' *human emotion* which balances out the lads' übertechnicality a treat imho. Great piece. :)
I watched you go back in time with the reaction. Like a kid in a candy store. This is such a treat for those of us more familiar with the early Vai era. Track is amazing and I can't stop watching it.
This trumpet guy at the end is from band called Brasstracks, they are amazing too, and it looked like a teaser for the next song 🤣 I loved that, one of the best song i've ever heard. Those 3 could easily be put on the "100 greatest guitarists" list, and yet we are hearing them all together. It was huge collab
Cool, time to get some physical copies of their music. I don't know why I haven't already. Everything I've heard is great Too many Japanese bands clouding my back account!
New viewer here! I gotta say, the intro and the outro are simple but beautiful things, I wish they were just a tad longer, everything in this song is so tasty and fits well. One of the legends and I'm pretty sure a group that is one of the best in modern history. I have gotten the chills and shed a tear listening to this while drunk or just high as balls, cheers to that beautiful outro!
Ryan -- I just discovered Polyphia today and was going to send you the link. And then I found you saw them a couple of days ago. Ha! Pretty special guitarists (da!) and drummer (wow!), techniques and vision, huh?
Nice. I watched a Herman Li video with Tim Henson on how they got Steve Vai to do a collab. Apparently he was drunk to get enough courage to ask his idol for a collab. Also, if you have not already seen it, You need to see Steve Vai playing Teeth of the Hydra on his Hydra monstrosity.
Don't you just feel like Music will eb ok in the hands of people like Tim Henson and Scott LePage? Their level of talent just makes me overwhelmingly HAPPY.
Please react to their song Nightmare, it's one of polyphia's best songs, and add The Great Calamity (Chalenger Deep) to your reaction list please ... I think you'll like it
Well Ralph Macchio "cheat" with those classical licks so here Steve dumped the devils and joined forces with Polyphia and asked "Where are you Mr. Macchio ? I'm ready"
Yes, I just noticed at that moment and thought it was cool. Then I was too dumbfounded by everything else to contribute much else LOL. They r all so good!!
I'll stand by that statement! I think it was The Ultra Zone....um, Jibboom. It was supposed to be an SRV tribute of sorts? Not good blues. There's a reason he didn't play the blues parts in Crossroads.
@@RyanMear He calls himself a composer. Guitar's just the best way to get it out there. That's how he's always felt. But to say he can't play the blues well? He can play anything if he wanted to.
You mean the part in the song where the guitar is heavily processed until it sounded digital? Yeah, I'm pretty sure whatever happened, it wasn't accidental!
Is it just me or am I the only one who sees very little actually enjoyable in anything Polyphia does? For me it's annoying and sterile with nothing true to lock into. All style no substance.
1st section - TIM 's throne
2nd section - scottie's throne
3rd section - King vai's throne

What they actually said was “PAYDAY BABY!!” And celebrated their incoming bonus checks.
What they really said was "Ladies and Gentlemen, i smell money"
The past, present, and future, all rolled up into one. Mind-blowingly beautiful. Some of the most complex playing I've ever heard, but with such emotion and severe feeling. Then Mr. Vai shows up. Unreal.
"I love that this happened" is just a genuinely perfect way of putting it.

It is brilliant
Chills when I saw Steve come in it brought me back to passion and warfare and I legit cried

Real recognizing real. Such a phenomenal collaboration of eras.
Agreed! I love that they did this. It all worked together seamlessly! The song is just ridiculously amazing! A wonderful Colab!

Yeah, such a cool thing to see
Supposedly he's going to be on 2 other songs, im excited to see how that turns out.
Cool, time to get some physical copies of their music. I don't know why I haven't already. Everything I've heard is great Too many Japanese bands clouding my back account!
@@RyanMear Do it! I pre-ordered the new vinyl, im so pumped to blast it over my speakers
I just pre-ordered the new album, signed. They older have the latest stuff available in their store. I'll have to search elsewhere
Just an amazing collaboration !!
Well I could play all the notes, just not in the right order. God tier level.
I think I played all the notes at one time when I threw my guitar against the wall.
And very, very slowly! 😅

Thanks, Isaac, yes this is a pretty legendary lineup!
Those Scottie's riffs and sounds remind me somehow about Iron Maiden's "Seventh Son of A Seventh Son" album. Awesome stuff.
An absolute masterpiece 🤘🏻
This song made me feal like crying bro and for some reason it is the least played by them on spotify i feal the emotion in this song
Loved your take Ryan - enjoyable as the music, and watching kindred musicians just put their artistry on show.
What a sincere reaction, amazing work my man. Keep doing you, you’re shining!
I see why they called this “Ego Death” 🔥🔥
Love your approach and honesty - dope video/reaction

Yeah, pretty amazing group

God dammm that middle Steve shreaking ...just pure joy😂
Ok, this was pretty insane. Damn.
Steve sang on this.🎸♥️
Don't you just feel like Music will eb ok in the hands of people like Tim Henson and Scott LePage? Their level of talent just makes me overwhelmingly HAPPY.
Wow, goosebumps...
This band is cool. There are many cool instrumental bands in Japan. Please give them a listen.
Steve chose to sing
I like that
New setup looks great!
👍
Check out the instrumental that Vai did with Orianthi.
Great reaction.
They make it look so easy.....
It's a hybrid picking technique
you've night time radio voice bro...very soothing...
EPIC!
Please react to their song Nightmare, it's one of polyphia's best songs, and add The Great Calamity (Chalenger Deep) to your reaction list please ... I think you'll like it
you have a badass sounding voice.
Thank you!
I dream of a Asterism/Steve Vai collaboration.
Or ASTERISM & Polyphia :)
„Joint shifting“
Would also like to know exactly what that means
That's it! He would fret a chord and bend different strings individually
@@RyanMear Excellent description and explanation thank you
The first part of his solo is about that. U can check also his song
"Candle power" if i remember the title correctly.
This song just SLAPS! I had to cover the solo :)
You covered Vai's solo? Cheeky promo 😉
th-cam.com/video/QaKoX2eDWoo/w-d-xo.html
I checked out your cover.... Very well done! How about those other riffs?? It's pretty f****d up when a Vai solo is the easy part?
@@RyanMear thanks man!! I’m going to work on Tim’s part next… and yeah, I agree that Vai’s part is the easiest section of the song, crazy 😂
When Ralph Macchio beats you at a blues battle you know you need some practice.. jus' sayin'.....
🤣
LOL
🤣😂👍🍻
Well Ralph Macchio "cheat" with those classical licks so here Steve dumped the devils and joined forces with Polyphia and asked "Where are you Mr. Macchio ? I'm ready"
God x God
In the bass player's defense, he is also slapping, as well as holding a pick. Hybrid picking bassist for a hybrid guitar picking band.
Yes, I just noticed at that moment and thought it was cool. Then I was too dumbfounded by everything else to contribute much else LOL. They r all so good!!
You are correct, though... He's doing it all, they all switch up to compliment each other. It is wonderful
Please react to vob sundanees instrumen ,live rennes frans 2021
🤯🤯🤯🤯
Did you really say he can't play blues very well??? lmao ok
I'll stand by that statement! I think it was The Ultra Zone....um, Jibboom. It was supposed to be an SRV tribute of sorts? Not good blues. There's a reason he didn't play the blues parts in Crossroads.
To clarify.... Blues is simple in idea. Anyone can technically play the blues, but I would doubt that Mr. Vai would call himself a bluesman.
@@RyanMear He calls himself a composer. Guitar's just the best way to get it out there. That's how he's always felt. But to say he can't play the blues well? He can play anything if he wanted to.
I would welcome a clip of him playing some good blues!
@@RyanMear I didn't say he played blues, he's never played the blues in his life as far as I'm aware, but to say he couldn't is ridiculous.
This is my new favorite song, but tims guitar is out of tune at 3:40. I cant unhear it.
You mean the part in the song where the guitar is heavily processed until it sounded digital? Yeah, I'm pretty sure whatever happened, it wasn't accidental!
Lol what
@@jleighwolfe it is🤷🏻♂️ effects or not. The whole song has effects but the song isn’t out of tune. Just the one part. Would bet on it.
Whatever it is, it is intentional. That's what I'm saying
Tell me you don’t play guitar without telling me you don’t play guitar lol
Is it just me or am I the only one who sees very little actually enjoyable in anything Polyphia does? For me it's annoying and sterile with nothing true to lock into. All style no substance.
