    Thank you, I did my first two clips for cattleyas today. I found only 12 guage wire, I think it works fine. Addicted to your videos, so much information to digest. Thank you and hope you feel good at this Easter day....

    I have had 26 surgeries on my hands.....and you're right, with the right tools I am able to make these clips. My first ones were clumsy but they hold the pot.... thank you.

    Thank you for sharing the info on the wire you use, ceiling tie wire! I am making a list and when we go into town next week I am picking up lava rock, wire, and I've found the clay pots you use at home depot. I love the idea of making custom-made supports and hangers! I appreciate these videos, learning the how-tos

    • @rickl.orchids
      @rickl.orchids  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ........those wire supports are the best thing for keeping the plants anchored well, and growing them upright....

  • @plips71755
    @plips71755 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Absolutely. 30 yrs ago clay pots and osmunda was all we used - with clips like this but not made by me - and they stayed in those pots until the growths were several over the side - made large speciman plants by not disturbing so much and tons of flowers. I’m archiving your clips demos to make some of my kwn.. As usual.. great and thanks.

    Wonderful video, Rick. Thanks a ton for doing it. Also, fine work by your camera girl! Working with wire like this is something that I would never attempt without instructions like yours. I wouldn’t even know where to begin.. You make it look so easy, though I know I might struggle doing it at first. I can see using custom clips and wire supports for much more than planters. Knowing how to work with wire like this can have lots of practical applications for many types of projects around the home. You are a real asset to the TH-cam community. God bless you for being so generous with your time and knowledge.

      @baggyjohnnybags 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Excellent tutorial Rick, and natural filming skills from camera girl! I love to tinker but lack an engineer's spatial imagination, so end up taking a looong time/multiple attempts to get it right. Luckily Debbie has learned to be patient with my early botched attempts. Your excellent video has just shortcut the whole process for me, thanks again.
      Now just have to work out what wire I can get hold of down here... NZ is famous for its' No.8 wire - too thick I think (about #6 AWG). I've got plenty of 2.5mm fencing wire lying around (#10 AWG?) but again probably too thick and it's very difficult to bend. Something to do with the label 'high tensile' (?) as the thicker stuff seems softer...

    Very clear and concise instructions! So much easier to do when you're not having to hold the camera, huh? 😊 Did you drill all the holes in the side of the clay pot next to the one you're demonstrating with the wire? What type of drill bit did you use? I like the added holes for air flow/drainage. 😊

      Rick L I'll have to make a trip to Lowe's...I bought a pretty ceramic orchid pot like the one you used in your transplanting demonstration video (the one that your wife loved!) and it doesn't have a hole in the bottom. I guess whoever designed these pots didn't grow orchids, Lol!

    I spend too much money buying these clips. Your video makes it look so easy. I know I can copy what you did, but the hard part is bending and twisting the wire, specially the thick ones. Is there a tool that can do the bending instead of using pliers? I've been watching your videos and I found them more educational compare to others who claim they are the "How to" videos. Thank you for making them. I hope your wife is doing well. She seemed to be doing a good job being a camera woman.
