    I love watching how you just take a piece of wire and make virtually ANYTHING for your orchid’s security. I’m going to buy a roll of it tonight after work and every newly-potted orchid will be hung and/or staked using this.

    Not orchids Ric, but AVs. There is talk about flushing, so prevent build-up of salts, does this apply to African violets.?

    • @rickl.orchids
      @rickl.orchids  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ....I use wicks, but in trays....and I water in the trays.....I also water from above every so often to flush salts out......the catch is.....they tell you to re-pot every 3 months....so the logic is you ...never build anything up.....peat perlite, and vermiculite....which is a basic violet mix.....has almost zero nutrients..and is a hydro mix....so you supply everything......and in hydro we flush accumulated salts........the media is fine....only re-pot if root bound.....not for nutrients.........if that makes sense....in hydro.....when you flush media....your starting over, like it was just repotted....root bound is different.......Hope I didnt confuse you Margret.......great question

  • @poodlepup1

    i noticed that you dont use clear plastic pots which i was advised to use so that light and air gets to the roots etc.. so i soldered holes all around the pots...and your use of ordinary gravel Rick do you find that its too heavy or no air etc around the roots ??? wow.. your thoughts please..

    • @rickl.orchids
      @rickl.orchids  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ........issues no,.... clay pots have been used long before plastic was even invented..and orchids have been growing on and in stone for eons........the stone adds some weight, but nothing crazy......they don't blow over, they drain well......there's big gaps in between the stones for air...the flush like a dream, they dont rot, never have to re pot again..etc etc......but, there is nothing wrong with clear plastic pots.......use what works for your grow set up.

    Nice I don't mind if my plants sprawling all over the place. If they are healthy they shouldn't brake. However it's easer to accidentally brake a plant that is untidy.

    Lots of good information but you are panning too fast which makes it hard to watch...It's a common fault with TH-cam presenters..slowing it down would make a much better video IMO.
