I picked up a 2012 MacBook Pro and set up a John Doe user to see if I could use it, and after configuring it decided I wanted to keep it but wanted to change the username to my own and your tutorial did the trick. Excellent video, very clear on all the options!!!

For those on a MacBook, you have to click on the account with two fingers on the mouse to find 'Advanced Options'.

If you're having trouble accessing files after you have completed this process, ensure that your Full Name, Account Name and Home Directory names are all exactly the same. Hope this helps.

Firstly, thanks for the informative video. I tried to change the name of the "/users" home folder and controlled clicked and although the drop-down menu appeared the "Rename" was not shown. I disabled file sharing and was signed in as a "test" administrator when trying to make the changes. I also tried disabling SIP but the option to "Rename" never appeared in the drop-down menu with that system wide modification. Any suggestions?

I followed the instructions but after the changing the home folder and account name it won't let access the files. It says that they cannot be located at its original location. Hey you have to hold down command button and right click on your user name to see the advanced options , if you can't see any of this you might be on a different operating system

I've restarted my computer but when I click my user profile to login, it just stays on loading and i can't do anything but hold the power button to turn off the computer then switch it back on to return me back to choosing the user accounts.
