It's a fantastic razor, had I found it before I started using DE razors I probably never would've made the switch. Less than £25 for 102 cartridges on ebay... You'd be lucky to get 8 Gillette cartridges for that price in the UK. I use it for travel and when I am too tired to pay attention to shaving. Nice review!
I use this razor regularly i gave up on wey shaving using de razor now this Gillette guard one blade razor is my go to razor i sold all my expensive razors for this one which made my daily routine easier.
👍 I think what makes this razor work well it has none of them stupid, unnecessary lube strips which have a gluey, sticky affect when using creams and soaps.
Great shave! I only used two single edge blades in my life, both when they were the cutting edge (pun intended) of shaving. The Gillette Techmatic was shaving if you were not adverse to giving blood. The other was the Wilkinson bonded blade, which I remember fondly. It might be my favorite all-time razor. Thanks again for the informative and well-done video!
Thanks for the great comment. I've never tried or even heard of those razors but I'm going to have to try and get hold of them to give them a whirl ! Thanks so much.
I have this and the Guard 3 as well. Both are great. The guard works better for a 4-5 days growth for me and for 2-3 days growth the guard 3 works well. The guard 3 is similar to what is called the Gillette Smart/Hybrid in the middle east.. except has a guard/comb and the hybrid has rubber microfins instead. I use the smart handle with it's blades and occasionally switch to the guard 3 blades.. the smart is called 'Flexi' in some other countries and Sensor 3/Blue 3 in others... Basically the same/Similar handle. The Guard single and the guard 3 are not interchangeable as the handles and blades are differently made...
Wow. Thanks for all that. Loads of good info. Sounds like I need to find and review the Guard 3 or whatever it is called here in the UK. I'll do some research and keep you posted. Thanks so much for the comment. Much appreciated.
I've made my trip down the DE razor rabbit hole. I've still got a good stock of DE razors and blades. They do offer good, close comfortable shaves. BUT after trying the Guard, I've set aside my DE's and gone with it. I use the Guard as a daily driver razor. I'll still break out a DE for a relaxing 3-pass shave on occasion. The Guard with some good cream and you've got a comfortable, close enough shave to meet the day. At this price point, The Guard is hard to beat. 😜
@@sharpshaves One of the big issues, cartridge shavers are missing out on are good quality shaving soaps & creams. Generally I'll simply face lather with some Proraso cream, no brush just my hands. That along with the Guard, gives a one pass shave that's hard to beat. Canned foaming goo is good for kids pulling pranks, but that's about it.
I couldn't agree more. I find even the expensive gel just like goo with too much gloop factor to it. I use a cream soap that lathers easily. I'll try what you've recommended. Sounds good

Yeah. Agree. Really not much beats it. Let alone at that price

Yes, I agree. No goo strips but also, nice and simple with a well positioned blade. Simple wins with this razor. Cheers for the comment.
Just started using it today, love it.
They're amazing aren't they !!

I really think you could be right. It's just so good for what it is and costs. I'm testing the Wilkinson Sword equivalent this week.

It's a really cracking little razor. Thanks for the comment
This razor feels better than Gillette Vector which is costlier than guard.
It's the most go to shaving razor for youth in India here it costs hardly .22 English pounds
