i absolutely love this video i watched all of it and listened to all of it. these are my favorite kind of videos thank u for tis lauren i hope u make more of these podcasts miht not be one of the most viewed videos but the ones who watch them definitely stick to them, also question were ur parents ever against you going with art as a major ever since hs, uni etc?
oo this is a really good question! i get my artistic side from my dad, so they were never 'against', but more worried that it wasn't going to be successful. they expressed feelings that they wouldn't have minded me going into the medical field to make good money. but once they saw i was able to make reliable income from art, they were fully supportive. my dad even embarrassingly plays my videos on the tv once i moved out 😭
@@ayeoopsmy parents do the same thing! my moms boss is even a big fan of mine, he plays my videos so all her coworkers and his family can see 😭😭 my mom watches my videos downstairs but the difference is i haven’t moved out lol
i'm planning to major art in a regular university and this video excites me because something you kept saying is that you learned this and that. I want to learn, I want to get better, I want to be really good. Thank you for this
I'm 15 and in 8th grade because I moved countries when I was younger, just like you. It's comforting to know that someone I admire has shared similar experiences :)
I relate to these stories so much- every teacher I had basically talked me into believing I couldn't be an artist as a career, so I settled for wanting to be an "English" major so I could read and discuss literature and storytelling for a living- because everyone around me, in spite of my obvious affinity for and skill in art, would just ask what I wanted to do for a career, as if it wasn't obvious. I grew up telling everyone I wanted to be an artist, but even my parents said it wasn't a real job, so from a young age I just talked myself into thinking I was passionate about writing/reading enough to spend my life doing it for a living, and just paint in my spare time. Well, as of now, I still don't make a living from my art, but it's what I spend most of my spare time doing and I have a job to sustain me until my art is known enough. All I want to do is paint and draw and make things that make me happy, and many people make a living doing this. I don't understand how art isn't a 'valid' enough career path for people to strive to and have others take them seriously. Art isn't lazy.

As someone who's done undergrad and grad in art schools and also plans to work as a professor in the future, I'm not sure you would've been happy there either. You kept bringing up that there were classes you didn't need or didn't apply to you personally but the thing is, art school is like that too. I went in as a photo major but in my first year there, I think I only touched a camera once. The majority of my classes were traditional art (drawing, color theory, 2D design, etc.) that everyone had to take regardless of what they planned to pursue. Looking back, I really appreciated those classes because if I really tried, I could find something that applied to photography. Hell, even in my senior year I was taking classes that had nothing to do with my major. I took visual and ethical anthropology, intro to graphic design, screenprinting, etc. and you know why? Because I could integrate what I was learning into my art even if there wasn't a clear benefit. Anthropology: I learned how to better source my supplies and appeal to people who lived vastly different lives. Graphic design: I learned how to take up space on a page better and how I can improve people's line of sight. Screenprinting: do you know how much custom backdrops are? Expensive as all hell if you want good quality. As far as the teachers, oof, art school professors don't give a rat's ass about people's feelings, and tbh neither do the students lol. Department critiques were always the most nerve-wracking thing. Besides having all the professors and students in that major there, oftentimes there are guest critics who are much harsher. I can't even count the number of times I felt like I was going to cry as I was trying to defend my work. But in hindsight, while everyone had their own styles and sometimes worked in completely different mediums, their critique usually helped me in broadening my ideas, experimenting with other things, and figuring out how to apply them to my art. Then for grad school, I went to one of the top animation schools in the US, and let me tell you, if you didn't break down at least once from either your professors or just the classes themselves, you were doing something wrong *but* I did come out a better artist. I'm not going to say the school because I don't want to discourage others from going because despite what I said, it was definitely my favorite school. So yes, while I think art school is beneficial if you choose to pursue art, some people won't like the experience regardless. I'm not saying this is the case for you 100%. I'm really just putting it out there for anyone who's trying to decide between a regular uni vs an art school. Note: You also tend to sacrifice the overall general college experience because art schools are so hyper-focused on art.
As someone who’s currently taking Lower level art classes, I resonate with the bored feeling and feeling like I’m not ever going to get to do what I want. I’ve just tried to make the most of it, I try to enjoy these different mediums and apply them to my own projects. Because no matter what, how hard the day has been, I can come home and draw what I want to draw. And no one is stopping me
I literally just needed something to listen to that calms me down. My parents are fighting outside my room and your voice calmed me down so much. Thanks for that ^^
Hearing your horror stories of your art teacher and art professors made me appreciate the ones that I had even more. Though I can relate with you on saying how art classes in high school don't focus on personal artistic growth and interests, once I got to college (I go to a Tech School that had an Art Department) I improved so much on understanding anatomy, composition, digital art, and even mediums I would've never used on my own like oil paint, charcoal, pastels, ceramics, etc.
this is going to be the PERFECT thing to repeat while waiting for more uploads. perfect length for a drawing, to remind me of a break, and to put on in the background while doing whatever else!
WAAAH IM SO HAPPY UR STARTING TO DO THESE LONGER VIDEOS!!! i've always LOVED longer art videos discussing absolutely anything just for me to listen to while in the background, but due to these not getting as much attention they're very rare!!!
Watching another person drawing and just quietly listening to them rambling have always been calming for me. Also I loved learning about your drawing process!
i want more of these! i like listening and watching as well. While i was drawing i had this video overlayed so i can watch while drawing it help me to just chill while drawing!!! anyways amazing art as always!!
I’m glad that you were able to this draw with me podcast despite knowing you may get less attention! I find it nice knowing the artist who draw these amazing art! :)
Your back. It’s been really long since you posted i’m so happy there’s a one hour video. I always listen to your videos while I’m working and it’s so nice thank you. Keep up the vids 😊😊❤
Thank you for this video, it was really interesting hearing you talk about your school life. I can relate to it a lot. Also this video helped me with my looong art block ❤❤
24:14 i relate to this part so much. I took ap classes is history and politics. Everyone in my life told me that i should study in law. I never wanted to study in law but my family pushed me into doing it. The guilt of saying no took me over. Now im in college studing in law and im miserable. Im glad you're able to follow your dreams, i hope everything goes well, and i love your art!!💖💖
Listened to the whole thing and I really enjoy it :) I listened while drawing and your stories were nice and interesting too so can’t wait for the next podcast ☺️ Love your artwork btw ❤
I'm absolutely inspired by how you have so much to talk about, while also drawing which are always amazing to hear, its been a while since I watched an artist and I've been watching your vids for quite a while now and it's amazing all the time! It always helps me draw while also watching/listening to you talk and stuff. Not sure if I've told you this but I'll say it again, you've inspired me to do the same and honestly, I'm glad I found your channel and happy to say that you're videos have been boosting my motivation to draw once more! It's a big thing and I just wanna say continue doing what you love and I hope you have the best Christmas and New Years too!
Ooh i love that you're making longer videos now, i usually watch your videos while working on some art myself, so it's amazing being able to listen to your voice for this long straight 😭 I love your art style btw, and the way you do hair..*mwah*
Gosh, social media was hardly a thing when I was 15. lol I think there was MySpace, hardly anyone used those like people use Facebook and Instagram today. I love this video! I don't usually watch podcasts or people talk. It's cool to hear someone else's experiences!!! Thank you for sharing :3 This drawing is lovely~
Ahh this was so nice! I pulled up some animal crossing music (particularly the relaxing, night time songs) to play along with your video and it worked out great. If you ever consider adding music in the background, quiet instrumental music like that could be nice! best of luck as you try out new content :)
I did not realize the video was an hour long after watching all of it😭this video absolutely sucked me in and really enjoyed watching this video and I really love your art!!keep up the good work!!🥹
I'm so glad you were able to do a podacst! It's so fun to watch your draw with me's, and now a longer draw with me +a relaxing and realistic podcast?! This is amazing.
Listening to this while I dabble in digital art. I know what you went through. My family moved right in the middle of the first semester of my Junior year of High School. My interest was in computer science, and they had already denied me going to the vocational school to take computer science in my previous high school, as the counselor felt that computers were a dead end, and he wanted all males to study shop and mechanical repair so we could be workers for the local factory. The new school was in a wealthy neighborhood, and transferred me to the vocational school as a form of discrimination, (I was from West Virginia originally, and they saw me as nothing but an ignorant hick, not worth their time to educate) and I let them. :) When I got there, I was already into computers and was learning nothing new, so the computer science teacher let me work ahead and take the finals, and put me to work as a lab assistant. I spent my senior year in High School taking the required general courses in the morning, then spending the rest of the day processing all the jobs for the school admin staff as an unpaid intern. There was no internet in those days, it was all computer magazines, and every related book in the county library. :) Frankly, I have taught myself much more over the years by self study than I ever learned in High School. And if you look on TH-cam, you'll find a good number of professional artist that will tell you not to waste your money on those expensive art schools. Your portfolio is the only thing an employer is going to care about. If you need the leg up, your local college is a much better deal than an expensive art school.
everything you've been mentioning in this video man... Like I honestly relate to how high school just makes it so difficult for artists to improve and have great art classes! Always throwing you around in classes you've taken and if your art teacher is tryna bring you outta the regular classes and the counselor "SOMEHOWWW" can't do that? that sucks. I've gone through this my senior year :c and I am glad you spoke about these things, because it's given me bigger perspective on continuing my art career, I haven't done collage yet but I graduated Thankfully. Love the video so much!
i put on some ghibli jams and i loved your vibes during this! i love podcasty-longer videos of rants and rambles that i can listen to whilst drawing. also your background art never dissapoints! i can relate on the highschool art things tho lol- im a freshman and in intro 2 art rn, and its kinda a struggle because im advanced but required to take intro. have a lovely day! i cant wait for the next installment
✨❤Thanks for sharing this Lauren (hope im spelling right) I went through some similar experiences with high school counselors they really do try to push you to do other things. it is VERY annoying 🗿. And college classes I’ve felt the same I just want to get to the digital drawings 😂 also that frame story had me laughing 💀 if they still have that pixelated drawing that’d be funny 😄 I like the idea of talking with another person for these podcasts too! ❤
I had a similar situation in school when I changed A Levels. There was a mix up and I got put on the wrong course, so I got to change my course to Fine Art two weeks into the term and it was awkward for the first week lol
I’m in a similar boat as you in college! I also wanted to major in illustration, though they don’t have that at my school so I’m taking Graphic design and hoping that I gain some skills from that
hello! I really enjoyed hearing about your college stories! I have a suggestion for a future podcast, it's a bit random but I want to know what your personal fashion style is like! To me it's interesting to compare an artists fashion sense to what clothes they tend to draw on characters, and all artsy people I know have pretty cool styles! Please do consider (if fashion is your thing) :)
Honestly I would listen to u talk anytime this first episode was very nice to listen to and I want to ask can u talk more about your school experience because I'm going to middle school soon so I'm a little nervous
this was so good i enjoyed this, felt like i was talking directly to you and you're very interesting to listen to. Lol when you started getting heated about the counceller i did too.
Okay, i'm here for the art but I stayed for the story! ^u^ let's make one thing clear, I LOVE the girl you drew her outfit and her hair and smile!!! She looks so pretty! Story part, art class in school or college usually sucks. The point of art is letting yourself be creative and step out of your comfort zone. I have my own art style, but my sophomore, junior, and senior years of highschool, I took advanced art classes so that I could be creative and do something I loved. Like, my art style is mostly paper drawings without anything super special, I always color them digitally. However, in school i got to be creative and paint things too, which was fun for me. I also got to use the expensive colored pencils and tried to do different art styles a bit too. Also, making posters and painting characters on posters was fun too. I had to do a Moomins one one time, and try to replicate that art style. College/Uni art classes should be the same. Like, you're an adult! If art is your passion then you would have took art classes in the past, right? Most people have already found their art style, but still want to try different stuff. It also sucks when teachers/professors make students redo work because it's not "good enough" to fit in with all the realism and everything else. Not everyone wants to draw in the same art style, and some people want to try different techniques and styles.
For the scar on your hand they make cream you can get at a drugstore to help it fade a bit; I have a large scar on my hand that’s faded a lot from using some, hope this helps.✨
I love this!!!listening to youas i draw helps alot!! If its okay, can you think about talking about to start growing more as a artist?(like on social media) as a growing artist i would loveeee to hear your advice!!
art schools here in Brazil are for free! makes me so sad to hear that you couldnt get where you wanted to, im so sorry... btw, i loved every second of this podcast, even took my own canvas and pretended that we were talking to each other. a big kiss from a brazilian fan!!!!!!
im currently applying for rocky mountain! physical art school isnt worth it imo(my 2nd transfer 😵💫 a lot of life stuff is happening n im already 3 years into art school so i cant quit now), whether its an actual institution or a standard university. they really do hate digital art for some reason 😭 theres so much i could say, i'll take inspo from you and talk abt my art school experiences in a video as well 😅
absolutely love this video. It was very nice to watch while I was drawing. By the way, I had a question . What do you use to record your videos? Do you use your phone and phone holder? Just curious
i have a scar on my drawing hand as well tho it was when i burnt myself whilst frying some spring rolls ;-; it's healed up but still visible. i hear Bio Oil works well on scars tho i haven't tried that out
Listening to you saying hard was it to be an art atudent in america is so shocking for me cuz i live in croatia and true elementry and now high school evryone was supportive of someone doing art and to go to an art high school and teachers are also so nice and encourage you to do more art
Hii ^^ i love you videos and I was wondering if you could do a challenge where you make a drawing in procreate? I know you have a procreate brush set and it’d be so cool since I use procreate too ✨✨ THANK YOU
my teacher actually looked into it and me and a couple friends enrolled into her class which was marked as AP, but she was too lazy to do the paperwork for the portfolio exam so she changed the course back to cp 😭
Hey Ayeoops I've been a fan on your channel for quite some time and I love the type of videos you put out! I too wanted to go to art school but as you said the cost for art school is very high, so I ended up graduating with a degree in Graphic Design. Am I really passionate about doing graphic design? Tbh not really, I just wanted to do get a degree in something in the arts field. I did enjoy my classes as it taught me to get out of my comfort zone such as taking a class on screen printing and ceramics. Both of those are something I would've never done! I too was drawing while listening to your podcast and relating to your points felt a different type of wave. I would love to learn more about your day and possibly have a conversation with you!
I absolutely loved this video I love when you do these kind of videos I love to listen to you talking about art and I love you channel I am such a big fan of you video but you are a very god artist you inspired me many times I am the best artist in my whole family because of you I am a god artist a drawing humans, animal's,
How did you get your carrd websit to work, ive been trying to make my own for commissions and such but it just wont work. Is there a tutorial you watched?
i dont rmbr which one but it was like a general "aesthetic carrd tutorial" that i watched just to understand the elements. i also got premium to get unlimited elements
im a freshman, bout to be on the second semester and I still don't know who to talk to. there's people that talk to me but I am not to keen on talking to them 😭. i think for this second semester I have an art class but before I had art history and it was cool but most ppl were older.
I am planning to get the kamvas 12 and I am kinda confused. I am a beginner artist and not sure if I wanna make money out from art. Is the kamvas 12 OK for me or I should get the 13??
for my own safety i can't say which one i go to, but you can look up california animation degrees and look into the cal states. cal states are usually affordable with financial aid

Same here 😆
YEA SOMETHING I CAN LISTEN TO WHILE WORKING
:cryy:
I followed along like your my teacher or something. Love your artwork! I hope I can be like you someday!!
i love podcast art content ❣this was so lovely
I love this so much
✨❤Thanks for sharing this Lauren (hope im spelling right) I went through some similar experiences with high school counselors they really do try to push you to do other things. it is VERY annoying 🗿. And college classes I’ve felt the same I just want to get to the digital drawings 😂 also that frame story had me laughing 💀 if they still have that pixelated drawing that’d be funny 😄 I like the idea of talking with another person for these podcasts too! ❤
not only was it pixelated, but it was stretched too 😭
@@ayeoops 💀 dang
Love it 🫶!!
I had a similar situation in school when I changed A Levels. There was a mix up and I got put on the wrong course, so I got to change my course to Fine Art two weeks into the term and it was awkward for the first week lol
I love these
I loved this video thanks for everything you did I love you channel and all your videos
I really enjoyed the podcast ❤and I'm sorry I don't comment much but I find your channel helpful 😊
I’m in a similar boat as you in college! I also wanted to major in illustration, though they don’t have that at my school so I’m taking Graphic design and hoping that I gain some skills from that
37:06 I felt that lol that's literally me every day 24/7
Please keep making videos like this ❤️❤️❤️
Honestly I would listen to u talk anytime this first episode was very nice to listen to and I want to ask can u talk more about your school experience because I'm going to middle school soon so I'm a little nervous
:0 New video!!
yeesh i don’t remember my teachers ever discouraging me from doing art, im sorry you had to deal with ppl like that 🥺
this was so good i enjoyed this, felt like i was talking directly to you and you're very interesting to listen to. Lol when you started getting heated about the counceller i did too.
LMAOO ty for getting heated for me
Okay, i'm here for the art but I stayed for the story!
I died when you talked about the framed logo LMFAOO
For the scar on your hand they make cream you can get at a drugstore to help it fade a bit; I have a large scar on my hand that’s faded a lot from using some, hope this helps.✨
oh thank u sm! ill look into it
I go to CSULA and i really like the variety of art classes and degrees they have
I love this!!!listening to youas i draw helps alot!!
Just curious
yep! iphone 13 camera and a phone arm
design podcast!!! plssss!!! ♥️♥️
i have a scar on my drawing hand as well tho it was when i burnt myself whilst frying some spring rolls ;-; it's healed up but still visible. i hear Bio Oil works well on scars tho i haven't tried that out
oo i'll look into it ty!
Perfect to watch while drawing but now I’m studying 😢
аа я люблю твой стиль!!!!
I know you have a procreate brush set and it’d be so cool since I use procreate too ✨✨ THANK YOU
Hell yeah!!
Them not having AP art available is CRAZY 😭😭😭
my teacher actually looked into it and me and a couple friends enrolled into her class which was marked as AP, but she was too lazy to do the paperwork for the portfolio exam so she changed the course back to cp 😭
god i ADORE ur videos sm.... but for some reason every time i listen/watch i suddenly get motivated to organize and purge my brushes lol
Ah yiss a podcast
Early,. And thx you for making this video dear ! 😘😘😘😘😘
I would love to learn more about your day and possibly have a conversation with you!
that last story was a health code violation

@@ayeoops ill take a gander, thanks fren
꧁I can watch this video for three more hours꧂
im a freshman, bout to be on the second semester and I still don't know who to talk to. there's people that talk to me but I am not to keen on talking to them 😭. i think for this second semester I have an art class but before I had art history and it was cool but most ppl were older.
I am planning to get the kamvas 12 and I am kinda confused. I am a beginner artist and not sure if I wanna make money out from art. Is the kamvas 12 OK for me or I should get the 13??
never tried the 12, but i assume the only thing that is diff is the size and price
❤
She just like me fr
My eyes widened when you said that dreaded word “logo”
Edit: also you basically got a free frame so you can frame something idk what

In which university are you?
Im looking for affordable animation colleges, so, coul you please share this information?
for my own safety i can't say which one i go to, but you can look up california animation degrees and look into the cal states. cal states are usually affordable with financial aid
@@ayeoops oh, thank you!
