Random tip directed at anyone who wants or needs it, when I created a Pinterest board for my plus size ocs, I looked for references of plus size people who would have their style as well. One of my OCs is goth, so I searched goth plus sized outfits, and then I did th same for my other oc. It really helps for clothing references and folds rather than trying to apply the reference of a non plus sized person onto a plus sized one
One thing I other do is research about plus sized characters in games. One really intriguing game is a dating simulator (hold on, it’s cool) called Monster Prom/Camp. There are plenty of diverse characters of identities and appearances, even if they’re different species from myths/urban legends/the like. The art style is still a bit cartoonish but executes body types and character design brilliantly.
@@midoriiiii34welll using chubby is for a smaller but still bigger body, using fat is usually for bigger than that, so using plus size is for bigger in general, like how small medium and large, for skinnier people
Your thought process is so entertaining to listen, and your art is wonderful as always. I love when artist make a conscious effort to learn new features and shapes for their characters. Fun fact, as a latine person: don't worry so much about specific faces or skin colors! One of the beautiful things about latin people is our racial and ethnic diversity, obviously there's some common features from place to place, but most american countries don't have one "specific" body type/face shape/skin color ❤
i loved hearing all your thoughts on drawing plus size characters! it's awesome to see artists actually explore body types and traits outside of their comfort zone or the norm :) i want to add that i adore her design with the low waisted skirt! i know you ended up liking the high waisted pants as well, but i love seeing plus size fashion that isnt afraid to show off big stomachs or muffin tops etc. i hope you have fun exploring and studying different body types!
Considering we're the future generation of who sets the standard of representation in media and art in general, I love to see us begin to consider everyone as a muse rather than people that fit the very narrow beauty standard- loved drawing alongside you and seeing you narrate your thought process!
This is the first time I’ve watched one of your videos, and as a plus sized person I very much appreciate what you have to say and your acknowledgments on how you’ve grown with drawing plus sized characters ! As an artist myself I still struggle with drawing plus sized characters, so don’t put yourself down for struggling. Keep up your amazing work !
as a plus sized person, i love seeing artists try and get more body type diversity in their art! it really does make an impact and brings people joy to see people like them represented
As a plus sized person who always draws plus size oc’s based on inspiration of me and other plus oc models, I don’t think your drawing was too “skinny”. I understand what you want and I’ll say that looking at references is the best thing for any art us artists do. It’s an amazing drawing and your art is still inspiring, I love your channel so much 😊❤
It's funny, I actually hate high waisted stuff because it constricts my (fat) stomach too much. Low waisted/hip hugging stuff is more comfy for me cause my stomach can just do its thing. I really like how this character turned out, she's soooooooo cute.
I hate the look and the feel of wearing high waisted stuff for the same reason! I cant wear low-rise things either or my belly hangs out and they slide off my butt. I stick to wearing regular-waisted clothing.
As a mid size girly with a stomach who loves drawing, I also struggle with drawing plus sized characters even though they represent my own body type. I love that you show your thought process while drawing because it really encapsulates my own. I love seeing representation of plus sized girls and us being shown in a beautiful light, your art is such an inspiration 🫶🫶
one of the tips ive learned drawing plus sized people that may seem like a small detail is the belly button placement! with extra fat the belly buton tends to be lower and squished, which can help with figuring out how the fat lays on the stomach and hips
This character is absolutely adorable, I loved hearing your thought process behind each aspect of her design while watching you piece it all together! Btw, for anyone that would like some help practicing drawing wider varieties of body types- particularly bigger bodies, I would hiiighly recommend checking out the “Fat and Skin Folds” Morpho Art Book! That was such an incredibly helpful resource for me when it came to breaking down how fat sits on the body! That book paired with references of real bodies really helped me improve in that area^^
Your videos haven't gotten bland, no!! I love how chill they are and how you just...talk. It's very relaxing & keeps me company while I draw🥰 I'm usually picky on choosing ppl to listen to while drawing, I can't find any podcasts I like listening to in the bg while drawing, but I love your vids. Even talking about things you think are irrelevant, I think I'd still like it and listen to it
I love this, shes so cute!!!! ((((( as a plus sized woman, her neck is so thin and thats USUALLY not our case even if she isnt that big her neck would still be thicker.
I hope I'm not the only one who'd love to see another character design video but now with what you've learned about exploring more of the character designing process sdfsdfg that sounds so fun
This is so cool, and even better cause there's actually a mexican actor/influencer called Emeralda Soto and she looks exactly like your character, you definitely nail the nationality!
I’d love to see a video of some plus sized studies :D I’ve also been trying to improve my art with fat bodies, as well as some variety with racial features (East Asian faces give me trouble for some reason ;/) so seeing other artists work on similar things to what I’m struggling with is really inspiring
I absolutely love draw w Me’s, it’s nice because it’s like watching or listening to a podcast and your voice is very calming and soothing 🥰🌸🌸 and your art is beautiful
As a plus sized person, I struggled to draw my own body type for a long time. It just takes time and lots of practice. She looks great so you’re on the way for sure. 👍
I'd love to see you redesign her in another video, your art is beautiful and I thinking you're being a too critical on your art this is so beautiful and if you're unhappy I'd love to watch a redesign because I'm invested in seeing this character being drawn again ! ❤️
I think its a fun challenge you gave to yourself is to do the studies and everything you said you wanted to do and then come back to this character. So you can appreciate your improvement ❤ can’t wait to see what happens

She’s such a cute character! This video was also very informational. Big fan of this video style that goes into the the thought process of your illustration! :)
I love it when artists diversify their characters more because it makes me so happy to see characters I can relate to. I don’t see it very often, and cannot express nor emphasize the importance of it, so it’s really nice when artists do this. Regardless, the character turned out so bubbly and I love the name! Although it may be biased because that’s my name and I’m also Mexican, I found that part so funny. I was so shocked when you mentioned the name, I replayed the video to make sure I heard it right. Thank you for making this video, I can’t express how happy I am to see someone that looks like me in such a cute art style. It made my day💖

One thing I can tell you for drawing larger characters is widening the neck. Also I would reccomend looking at and doing studies of faces with double chins or whose faces blend into their neck.
i love listening to your thought process as you draw, you seem to have a great growth mindset. I can't wait to see all the improvement in character design
I love your art and your draw with mes! You’re one of my favourite artists to watch, especially when I need motivation, your videos are very inspiring and relaxing.
Plus sized artist here! obviously you dont have to take my advice but something i really recommend is drawing or practicing "unconventional" body types! i see most artists draw the typical "chubby" person with a smaller waist to thigh ratio. i suggest studying stretch marks, arm fat, double chins, back rolls, chubby hands, thigh lumps, stomachs that hang over, etc! i highly recommend this to any artist looking to study plus sized anatomy!
This is such a good video! I love watching your process when drawing 😊 I highly recommend watching lines in motion's video about character design, it's very good and I certainly learned a thing or two.

Just wanted to add this to the comments before anyone is over here saying “she doesn’t look Mexican” like what do you mean she doesn’t look Mexican? So I had to throw my two cents in for the people with that type of mindset
thank you ang! i know there's a lot of things that i could have done better with her design but i did try my best and it means a lot to know that you appreciate and understand it
(keep in mind that I am a white european person, so take this w a grain of salt) I am very glad you commented this, I saw that comment and smth abt it rubbed me the wrong way. Especially because, as you mentioned, the Latino community is extremely diverse so saying that she can't be plus sized and brown with curly hair was...idk kinda odd because there isn't a way to "look mexican"
I want to be a film director one day and design my own characters for my shows and this taught me a lot. 1. My sillioets are boring. 2. I've been tacleing character design wrong and 3. I need to experiment more. Tysm
Hii! I'm a new viewer and got interested by this video because of the character designer portion. I also want to take a career in character design in the future, and I'm struggling to make a portfolio D: I'm glad I'm not the only one kinda struggling, and I will totally keep up with this channel to help me improve with my skill! You also seem like a very sweet person who is very passionate about this! :DD
I absolutely love her cherry earrings, and her color palette! You did an awesome job, as always! Kinda makes me think of the song, "I Don't Wanna Talk (Just Wanna Dance)" by Glass Animals. :3
you're my cat's new favorite channel :] he loves to paw at your hand and pen while you draw ( which is cute until he knocks my monitor over....... worth it :] )
I think you captured a plus sized character quite well! My only tip is to add that same weight to the character’s neck. Plus sized people, women/AFAB folk more than men/AMAB folk, tend to have a thicker neck. Over all a great piece! Love the outfit you chose for her
Off topic but i would love it if you made a video on how you stylize anatomy/bodys in genral , i can kinda draw relistic bodys and cartoony bodys but i realy strugl drawing bodys in my art style i would love to know if you have any tips bc i am obssesed with your work QvQ

thank you ang! i know there's a lot of things that i could have done better with her design but i did try my best and it means a lot to know that you appreciate and understand it
(keep in mind that I am a white european person, so take this w a grain of salt) I am very glad you commented this, I saw that comment and smth abt it rubbed me the wrong way. Especially because, as you mentioned, the Latino community is extremely diverse so saying that she can't be plus sized and brown with curly hair was...idk kinda odd because there isn't a way to "look mexican"
@@ayeoops no worries! You are doing a good job!! I think the issue is other people thinking latinos look one way and not many ways
@@sapphoscorner !!! I couldn’t agree more
She looks amazing! I'm sure when you revisit her she will look even better.
I would love to see you draw some guys!
It's amazing, which app do u use?
SO CUTE
I want to be a film director one day and design my own characters for my shows and this taught me a lot. 1. My sillioets are boring. 2. I've been tacleing character design wrong and 3. I need to experiment more. Tysm
I saw the thumbnail… had to see this video right now 😍

Yooo great video
It was kind of a bummer to hear you didn’t enjoy this process because the final design is sooo cute 😭
you're my cat's new favorite channel :] he loves to paw at your hand and pen while you draw ( which is cute until he knocks my monitor over....... worth it :] )
this made my day 😭
18:59 wait thats crazy, i literally just finished designing a character that has the same name and she look similar to yours!!
I love how she lookex
I think you captured a plus sized character quite well! My only tip is to add that same weight to the character’s neck. Plus sized people, women/AFAB folk more than men/AMAB folk, tend to have a thicker neck. Over all a great piece! Love the outfit you chose for her
I am a big fan
Off topic but i would love it if you made a video on how you stylize anatomy/bodys in genral , i can kinda draw relistic bodys and cartoony bodys but i realy strugl drawing bodys in my art style i would love to know if you have any tips bc i am obssesed with your work QvQ
Where did you found those moodboards ? I need them
