My first brand new car was a 1985 Toyota Corolla. It was the first generation to have front wheel drive. It only had a 70 hp engine and a 3 speed automatic transmission… but with everyone forced to drive the 55 mph speed limit, and having a 56 VW Beetle with a 36 hp engine, it seemed like a sports car. At 6’3” tall, I had to recline the driver seat 2 notches so my head had enough room. The car had a comfortable ride, a bigger trunk than my VW, but the wind noise was pretty loud drowning out any other noises including my stereo. I remember how obsessed and excited I was over my car… to me it was like a spaceship compared with my old car.
Mine was an 87 Corolla FX hatch. Nobody wanted them, the FX, so my buddy worked at the dealership and told me the manager wanted them gone. Super deal. What a useful great car, 5 speed w/ AC and a cassette deck, i drove it 10 years.
There is a AWD Corolla Sedan Hybrid which came out in 2023. I got the 2024 Hybrid AWD. Have ift for almost 6 months now, mostly highway driving and I’m averaging 4.8L/100km (49 mpg US).
The former Big 3 automakers have removed affordable reliable sedans from their lineups and are charging up the wazoo for big bloated pickups and SUVs that a lot of people don't really need. The NEW Big 3, Toyota, Honda and Mazda excel in making affordable reliable sedans. I bought a new Corolla this year and love it. It was cheap to buy, cheap to feed and cheap to maintain. If you don't like spending a lot of money but want a solid reliable car then the Corolla is worth considering.
Problem is the first year of a new Generation Toyota vehicle comes with issues that have to be worked out in the following year or even second or third year. Look at the new Tundra
@@PHILLIPS8822That's all manufacturers. Just throw it together and cross your fingers. Lol Golden rule is to never buy the 1st year of any new generation.
I drive 31 000 miles per years. I work as an uber driver. My last car was a kia optima and it’s lasted me only 130 000 miles until the engine fail. Now that i bought a Corolla, i save more on gas and i hope this car can last at least 300 000miles.
Had a Corolla GTS rear wheel drive took out the crank bearings doing a 120 mph on the autobaun it ran at that speed for about 2 hours but it still got me back to base and never locked up 😅
What would we do without our Japanese friends. They continue to build fairly affordable cars for us. Our own OEM's have abandoned most Americans. At least those of us who do not have $100.000 for a expensive truck.
Absolutely! The more I experience in the automotive world the more I appreciate and respect the Japanese companies, they’re literally doing so much to keep our auto industry alive and still reasonable. And technically since most top safety pick cars come from them, they’re also helping to keep us alive haha. 🤪
The Corolla sells as well as it does, because it is a reliable appliance, the vast majority of car buyers are basically looking for a no fuss dishwasher on wheels, and the Corolla has always been that for its customers, and it helps that there is a Toyota dealership around every other corner for servicing. If I were shopping in this segment, I would more likely look at a Honda Civic or Mazda3 both of which are superior dynamically to the Corolla and have nicer interiors.
Yeah, this one is slightly used, so it was tinted but also caught a rock on the windshield from its recent owner. I assume the windshield will be replaced by the dealer within the following days. Thanks for watching!

Oops, I should have shown the vin. I just looked up each trim level from a dealers website and found only the non hatch non hybrid sedans like this are made in the U.S. the hatch, GR, and sedan hybrid vins all start with a J. At least according to a dealership in a fairly large city. Good catch!
I'm looking to replace my 2004 Corrolla, and saw that consumer reports rated backseat safety in the 2024 model really really low. Can you speak to whether rhe 2025 model resolved any issues there?
I’m sure the current generation is much more safe than a 2004 model. But a lot of vehicles have poor back seat ratings. Even the F-150 has a bad rating for the rear occupants during the front over lap test. If you want a more safe vehicle I’d maybe look into the Impreza or something else. But sub compact sedans just don’t have the size to help them. Thanks for watching and best of luck!
Sorry about that, I didn’t catch that mistake in editing and had the 1.6T GR Corolla on my mind, lol. It’s a 2.0 4 cylinder that makes like 169hp and 151tq.

Odd thing about the XSE sedan, no driver side lumbar, just a cap where lumbar would be...in the XSE, hmm. The Corolla hatchback and Corolla Cross XSE both get actual lumbar support. I don't get it.

Great insight!, thank you for pointing this out I’ve found that to work somewhat inconsistently with other equipped Toyotas, and when it does work it then seems the engine always shuts off once the driver door is opened. Idk why I didn’t attempt it with this Corolla, but I should have. 🤦♂️😅
I think you’re right! When I learned this car was available it was before its windshield was fixed and it was all set up with the dealer. I just knew they had a lightly used new Corolla so I prepared for 2025 information. Sorry about any confusion and thank you for pointing this out!!
The only NEGATIVE that I have for Toyota is that they still use that stupid and monotone grayish black interior. Personal preference I would take the tint as I do not like tint on my cars. Cool video though.
I briefly mentioned in the video that it was a slightly used current gen example. I’m sure someone traded it in for an AWD Subaru or something else they had at their dealership. 😅 This dealer moves a lot of cars so they often get pretty new other makes/models pass through them.

You’re absolutely right, but I called this the best selling car because it’s a sedan. The model Y in my mind is a crossover or hatchback, not necessarily the stereotypical “car”. Thanks for watching and adding your input!!
Why the Toyota Corolla is NOT the best selling car in the world. Because the Tesla Model Y is NUMBER ONE worldwide. For the most recent full year, 2023, the Tesla Model Y sold 1.223 million. Number 2 is the RAV4 at 1.075 million. Number 3 is the Honda CR-V at 0.846. The Corolla is in fourth at 0.803. Some will argue that the Corolla and the Cross should have their numbers combined. To keep the comparison realistic in that case, the Tesla Model 3 should be combined with the Model Y because, like the Corolla and the Cross, they are the same platform. the numbers then are 1.732 million vs. 1.519 million, with Tesla again taking the crown. Both brands make excellent vehicles, but other than the having four wheels i'm getting people from A to B, they are not really competitors with one another. The Teslas cost 50 to 60% more than the Toyotas initially. This fact put them in vastly different addressable markets. Interestingly, though, the Tesla models actually have lower 10 year total ownership costs.
