    The cool thing about this movie is that it starts with Marty finally getting back to normal and the Doc bursting in, back from the future with news and a mission. And it ends with the Doc finally getting back to normal when Marty bursts in, back from the future with news and a mission.

    The little one in the cafe 80's who turned on the video game was Elijah Wood who went on to become Frodo Baggins in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings Trilogy. This was his first movie and he had a very successful run as a child star during that time. The trilogy helped break the mold of being stereotyped as a child actor only.

    18:59 If you pause it here, it shows the "Last Time Departed" date being Nov 12, 1955 instead of 1985. Had Doc or Marty been paying attention and noticed this before leaving 2015, they would have known that the time machine was borrowed.

    Doc's explanation of multiple Doc's and Marty's make perfect sense:
    The younger 1955 Doc who helped Marty get back to 1985 (first film)
    The younger 1985 Marty who accidentally traveled to 1955 (first film)
    The present 1985 Doc
    The present 1985 Marty
    From Doc's perspective, this is a 30 year older version of the Doc from 1955. From Marty's perspective, he's about 1 week older than his younger counterpart from the 1st film.

  • @rowdycmoore
    @rowdycmoore ปีที่แล้ว +38

    Yeah, just to knock some things out of the way:
    - Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale never intended for the original to have a sequel but reluctantly agreed when Universal said the sequels would be made with or without them. The condition was they would not begin making Part II until Zemeckis and Gale finished making Who Framed Roger Rabbit - then they cast Christopher Lloyd as Judge Doom in Roger Rabbit to make sure of that (And yes, that's Roger Rabbit's voice Charles Fleischer playing Terry in both 2015 and 1955)
    - Zemeckis in fact never wanted to make a movie set in the future of any type; because of this, they intentionally made 2015 in this movie as ridiculous and unrealistic as possible.
    - Neither Crispin Glover or Claudia Wells returned for the sequels. Wells was busy tending to her ill mother, while Glover balked at Universal's contract offer, then sued when they used his image in the film without consent.

  • @cjwiesner
    @cjwiesner ปีที่แล้ว +5

    They didn't bring back Crispin Glover to play George in Part II and used prosthetics, upside down George, and far away shots.
    This actually resulted in a lawsuit by Glover and changed how Hollywood had to go about re-casting actors. Glover set the precedent which is why you don't see them trying to cast actors to re-create existing actors (at least without compensating the original actor).
    Another fun fact. Glover is 3 years younger than Michael J Fox...so the "dad" is actually younger than his "son"

  • @toodlescae
    @toodlescae ปีที่แล้ว +16

    They had to film 2 & 3 back to back because Michael J. Fox, who was 23 when they did the first one, was getting to where he couldn't pass for a 17 year old anymore at 27.

      It wasn't even planned to be a trilogy at first. After throwing out an early draft of Part II that was a standalone sequel, Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale brainstormed a story so elaborate that they realized they'd have to split it into two movies.
      Universal wanted the sequel out for the summer of 1989, and after overhauling the script, Zemeckis told the executives "Okay, bad news is, we won't make summer of '89; good news is, we'll make Thanksgiving of '89 _and_ we'll have Part III for the summer of '90." So all in all, a pretty good trade-off 😆

    Rewatch the hoverboard scene when Griff and his crew fly into the courthouse. Watch for one of them bouncing off a column. They barely rehearsed that stunt and that stunt woman was actually flung into that column, it wasn't planned as it was intended for all of them to go through the prop glass. She broke some bones and if she had hit a little bit different it could have been fatal.

    When dealing with the Time Travel Paradox, yeah there's bound to be holes. But I think Speilberg and Zemeckis did one hell of a job working out things in the small details. There are still things to this day that people miss.
    Note: Biff's "henchman", the guy you noticed was in Titanic (Billy Zane) also played the theater actor in Tombstone.

    • @Karadjanov
      @Karadjanov ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes! you are very correct. Time Travel is not possible and there will never be a great way to portray it without plot holes. Speilberg and Zemeckis indeed did a great job but they did so mainly by following 2 basic principles about time travel in movies.
      1st: Never introduce Time Travel unless the movie is about Time Travel specifically.
      Bad Example: Harry Potter and the time-turner.. Avengers: Endgame. If we leave the nostalgia berries aside it really ruined the movie and made it super trash.
      Good example: This movie and The Butterfly Effect, and more.
      2nd: Follow basic human logic/intuition to integrate time travel events and don't linger on the paradoxes trying to explain/justify them.
      Good Example: Doc Explains the time branch with a board and chalk with simple linear logic (Scientifically incorrect but very good to the plot/story and in unison with the pace of the movie) .
      Bad Example: Hulk explains time travel in MCU (More scientifically correct but still wrong and totally illogical and out of pace with the movie).

    Flying cars in 2015. Let's just assume it's an alternate universe. lol
    They didn't really THINK that's what it would be like. The writers decided not to try to predict what 2015 would actually be like. So many stories about the future get things wrong, so they just had fun with it. It wasn't a prediction.
    Besides, it's a lot easier to write about a dystopian, post-apocalyptic future than one where there's still a society.

Loved the fact they came within 1 year of nailing the Cubs winning the World Series for the 1st time in 100 years. Tom Wilson played four versions of Biff plus Griff plus the voice of Biff's grandmother. That must have been fun to make. I got to see all three of these movies in the theater when they came out. They did do well at gathering the same actors again after a gap of a few years (except, as others have said, for Jennifer who had to bow out because of family emergencies, and George who chose not to return). BUT they were also able to literally reuse a fair amount of film from the first one: from the prom and similar scenes, just overlaying our new action in front of it as needed.
    They worked around the absence of Crispin Glover (George) as best they could -- seeing him from the back or at a distance, or in 2015 hanging upside down. When we definitely see the original George's face, they've simply reused footage from the first film.
    It's weird to think of Jennifer sleeping on her porch all this time, but that's the fun thing about time travel -- they can return to a time just a few minutes later, and hardly any time will have passed for her.

The exagerated movements of him trying to act like a girl are to show the audience, those that spot it, that it's him. Also, I don't know if you noticed, Needles is played by, Flea, bass guitarist for The Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

    You're right, that's not George. The actor, Crispen Glover, wanted too much, so they 'cheated' him, they actually used some footage (when he's helping Lorainne up), and used his likeness without his permission. The actor sued, and was awarded $760,000 for zero work, but compensation for the use of his likeness in film.

      @@sharonhoyt2133 No movie magic, they just reused scenes from the first movie with Glover, who successfully sued them because he had not agreed, nor been paid. I'm sure it's been mentioned that the actor who played George McFly in the first movie didn't come back but the controversy around it is huge actually. So obviously all the actors playing George, Lorraine, Biff, were the age they were portrayed as in 1955 more or less. They created prosthetic face molds to age them up for the 1985 scenes. When George's actor didn't come back for this movie, they reused his face mold on a different actor for the 2015 scene he's in (and also flipped him upside down in hopes of fooling more people since facial recognition isn't as easy upside down). Worked really well but good god did it piss off the original actor something fierce. Definitely ethically murky.

    There was a conflict with the actor who played George so he was not in the 2nd or 3rd film at all. First one is my favorite, but its like 3-act trilogy for me. What I liked about part 2 and 3 is that Marty has his story arc, similar to his father George, but with the opposite problem. George's arc took him from being afraid of confrontation to being more confident and assertive. While Marty was a bit impulsive, feeling like he had something to prove, especially if he was called a coward. I like how it built from George's arc, to where the message was "Don't be afraid of confrontation, and don't let people walk all over you; but at the same time don't let people gaslight and goad you into making a mistake that could cost you your livelihood, and your life." In other words, be assertive, but not impulsive and aggressive. Learn when to stand up to people, learn when to let sh*t go if its not worth it. -- The only thing I would have liked to have seen is Biff having a story arc if there was a part 4.

    I still like 2 the best, because I've always liked when the rules of time travel gets more complicated, and you get to explore the same events through different perspectives and stuff. Though this movie does violate its own rules a couple times. You were right that Einstein and Jennifer should have been stranded in alternate 1985, but so should have Marty and Doc in 2015. Old Biff should have traveled to the future of the alternate timeline leaving Marty and Doc without the Delorean. People say the deleted scene of Old Biff disappearing in 2015 after returning the Delorean explains it, but it only makes less sense, because then the Delorean would have disappeared too.
    Minor nitpicks though, all of these movies are excellent.

    • @xejelah
      @xejelah ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree about 1985, but don't get your reasoning for 2015 Marty and Doc. I think it makes sense for old Biff to return because young Biff had yet to change time when he left. Young Biff's actions is what created the alternate timeline. Which explains why old Biff disappeared when he returned because his future changed, but not the Delorean.
