I don't know whether or not this applies to this video.... But Karl is from Manchester /the North like myself.. But in other videos he says "toffee shop" and Ricky and Stephen give him abuse for it.. But "up north" (Manchester) a toffee shop is any shop that sells chocolate, sweets(candy).. The local newspaper shop could be classed as a "toffee shop" if it sells sweets(candy) chocolate ect

I like this episode a lot, not only because it's hilarious, but because I think I get almost everything Karl says in the first half of the episode. Like I think I understand what he means and I agree with him. His points about the perfect life in the machine are very interesting and probably correct. I think he has great ideas sometimes but he doesn't know how to explain them properly, so it comes out funny.
Think that was the first time we've seen any representation of Karl laugh. Does he laugh genuinely in Idiot Abroad? I know he sort of laughs in incredulity and desperation at the things he has to do. But I can't recall any other occasion where he's genuinely laughed. I think it is a bit of an act, an extreme version of himself. I'm sure real Karl laughs 😂
He does laugh a few times in An Idiot Abroad. There's a couple of times I can think of: The desert island episode when he's talking to Ricky about the land dive, the Gorilla episode when he's talking about the bungee jump and he also laughs a few times on Moaning of Life 😊
