I think that you are super brave to open your home to us and allow us to join you on this journey. My husband says don’t worry about what the winter has done to the yard, “Linda is not coming to visit”.
I’m with Leah. It is so exciting to see exactly how you did the coleus topiary. Love how encouraging you are to both Leah and the rest of us with basic questions. Thanks Linda.
One of the things I enjoy most about your space is the hardscape -- your front walkway with the brick edging, your social patio, the "rugs" along your pathway, back patio, and more. But my absolute favorite is your back porch! The railings are a nice touch to both the front and back. I don't ever notice the utility boxes, etc. People should realize that you live in a house and not on a "set."
I kept a cartoon on my fridge for years, told my husband ,”that’s what I want the yard to look like.. his mouth fell open.. so I said , picture it without the castle.. 😉
Just a suggestion - it’s probably easier to replace both of the container plants by the door on the back porch, you can repot the healthy one as a single 💚
I wish you had put the circles on the top part of the railings as per your railing near the front door. They are prettier. Big hugs from Sydney Australia. ☺️🙏🏼🇦🇺🍷
Linda, have you thought about spray painting the yeti cooler that same color as the new planters on your back porch? It’s the only brightly colored object in your back yard,. And draws unwanted attention ?
There has not been one video from Linda that I have not leaned something, never thought to topiar coleus that is a must try, the railings enhance the movement of the back steps love it🌷😎
I really enjoy the camaraderie and fun, the three of you have working together! You brighten my day, as well as teach me! I love the railings in the front and the back of the house! It has been so wonderful to see the progress you’ve been making since you moved into the cottage. Thank you for sharing your life with us. Yay to Stuart for getting the orchid to bloom again!❤😀
I live in North Florida and we have very moderate temperatures, but I keep my orchids on my screened lanai during the warmer months. I water when needed, fertilize occasionally, and when it gets to 45-50*, I bring them inside on a plant stand. They all rebloom during the time indoors. I move them back outside when the nighttime temps get above 45-50* again. Works every year, and maybe it will work for you too.
I usually remove flowers from plants that have foliage that is the main show. My MIL/gardener told me to that years ago. She said it gives more energy to the foliage if flowers are removed.
Great job Stewart on the orchid! We’ll need another update on Lea’s Coleus, frankly I was riveted, I want to attempt one this spring. Give it a quarter turn weekly Lea, for even growth. The railings look really good, it really ground the steps.
Hello Linda! Waiting for you to have my glass of wine tonight! Love the red sneakers!! I do remove the flowers on coleus. It’s still freezing here in Ontario. 0 degrees Celsius. Jealous of your outdoor activity!
Nice to see someone outside in a t-shirt. Although seeing new green growth in spring is fun, seeing myself burst out of my heavier winter clothes I like even more.
I got my first Myrtle topiary this year and I’m enjoying it very much. When it’s time to prune it I’ll experiment with propagating to make a two ball one. Thank you for another great video, and I’d like to add that I love seeing you interact with your team. Gardening with friends is so much more fun 😊
Love your railings! I can't wait to see your pots planted in your back yard and the finishing touches that you are planning. Your videos always inspire & cheer me up. Thanks so much.
Hi everyone 😊 I just adore your comraderie, information and style. Thank yiu for helping me put a little spring in my step everyday. Your friend Kristine
I always deadhead coleus. If I don’t, seems to signal plants that growing season is almost over and plants become leggy and slows new growth. I live in zone 8.
I love your aesthetics. Railings look great. Black looks good against the cottage grey and the scale is perfect for those handsome stairs. Curious if you’ve noticed any signs of life on your oak leaf hydrangea. Hope so!
I like being able to change the colors of my outside pots by using spray paint. This works well for me. Your garden looks lovely, and I love the addition of the railings.
Hey Stewart, you can just put the Amaryllis in a glass with the roots in water and have blooms in a couple of weeks! I have some blooming now that I just started a few weeks ago. Just add water every few days. You can do it! What a fun video. Love you guys!
I always enjoy your videos; thank you. You're obviously still experiencing warm weather, while here in Southern CA it was another gloomy, chilly day with some rain in the forecast. I just keep reminding myself that plants are thriving, and I'm not in fairly nearby areas where there are mud slides and other problems.
I can't believe you are out in summer clothes in February! It is warmer there than here in CA except for yesterday when it got up to 75 and I was outside.
The coleus topiary looks great I don’t have the eye like you have. The railings look great along with the pots you painted gray very classy can’t wait to see it this spring with beautiful plants/flowers in them.
Great video ! Perfect end to the day , as I have spent a large part of my day re-watching videos from your former garden 💙 Such inspiration and very much a " feeling / mood " setter as I begin making this years gardening choices !!! Thank you all so much for all you do !!!
I love the back rails, and the topiaries are great. Looking so forward to seeing Leah’s fill out. I didn’t know that you could a coleus into a topiary. Thanks for another great video! 😃
I leave the flowers on my coleus for a couple of days, when they start looking a little ragged, I cut them off. Homework assignment for Leah, keep that coleus topiary alive, and we want to see it, in a couple of months. Love your topiary and your team.🌱
I started a coleus topiary when you mentioned them before. I am sad today since when I was watering mine I broke the top of the plant off. I am hoping it will regrow. I am rerooting the top. What a coincidence that you are working with yours today as well.
Don't tease me with the old garden. Its like finally trying to get over the one who got away... then someone sending you a picture of him at his happiest, handsomest best! I have been growing coleus for years, and can't see it in a topiary form due to its growth habit.I will be interested in seeing this transform into one. The back railing is gorgeous and with the trailing plants in the pots flanking the back door, will look incredible. I do feel the wood pile should be elevated to porch level. Seems too low for easy access without having to stoop over.
I began taking my boxwoods out of hiding and set them out in their appointed places. The weather is on an upswing. Leah congrats on your coleus! Good luck Stewart with that orchid. My myrtle topiary died a slow death in my unheated garage. Very sad. That's okay...I'll get a new one. I will admit that it did last quite a long time...May through October.
As a spiller to go with the Cranberry Boxwood in the pots on the back porch: Glacier Ivy, with a punch of Yellow Creeping Jenny (Lysimacchia Aurea). And could tuck in a splash of purple or yellow pansy or viola in spring. Another spiller option: Lamium--various cultivars.
Hi from Annie you look nice in the outfit, topiary is looking good. Can be bit tricky at times as you can trim it too much etc.The back looks great finally some railings for safety etc.. Will look good with painted pots and plants by the back door..
I loved when you got your front railing how it added so much to the front of your house. The back railing adds a whole different look & will be exciting to see those large pots overflowing with pretty plants.
I started boxwood topiaries last year because of you. They do have some new growth, should I trim them or wait ? They are quite small , I took cuttings from our established boxwoods ( I don't know what kind they are) On another note, I started an ivy topiary on a wire clothes hanger I bent into a circular shape and it's doing great !!! I had to pot it up the end of the summer it was going crazy 😅 Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I hope we get updates on Leah's coleus ❤
I have a question for you Linda. I have a juniper topiary but it got knocked off of a pedestal and fell and broke out part of one side. How would you deal with that to get it back in shape ?
The back steps look just beautiful with the railings! Everything is looking so cohesive, Linda. I try not to sweat the small stuff too much either!! Whatever you create should be a reflection of you and how you want it to be. A garden is just that, ever evolving.
Linda has said in earlier vids that the issues were vendors/supplies. It takes a long time to have things crafted so she's been on a kind of wait list for months. She'd hoped for them by xmas but obviously that didn't happen. Linda puts out so many vids that it's hard to keep up with all the info about design projects. (not complaining, there's just a lot of info)
I think that you are super brave to open your home to us and allow us to join you on this journey. My husband says don’t worry about what the winter has done to the yard, “Linda is not coming to visit”.
Ha, sounds a little like a dare!!!
I’m with Leah. It is so exciting to see exactly how you did the coleus topiary. Love how encouraging you are to both Leah and the rest of us with basic questions. Thanks Linda.
Railings look great! It’s all coming together nicely. Great lesson on topiary trimming. Thanks a bunch!
miss Linda...there's something new about you..... your eyes... your face ? even your smile but.... so beautiful you are... ❤️
One of the things I enjoy most about your space is the hardscape -- your front walkway with the brick edging, your social patio, the "rugs" along your pathway, back patio, and more. Very true !! Y'all lighten up! Linda has done a remarkable job and her home and garden is lovely 🥰👍

I always remove the flowers on coleus, per grandma’s instructions 😊

I found the topiary instruction very riveting thank you Linda. Hugs from Sydney Australia. ☺️🇦🇺🍷🙏🏼

I love your lighter hair colour😊❤ love from Rosie O from Devon England 🏴
I'm working on a lantana topiary. I live in Florida, and they get large here. I have one that is about 3 feet tall.
Hi, Linda. Thank you for your video. ❤ Welcome and Take care.

I wonder if Stewart could give us his tips for getting orchids to rebloom. 😃

I don’t understand why you faced that beautiful steps toward the utilitarian side of the yard. The railing looks nice
New railings look fantastic and safer!
What a great idea to spray paint those pots! They look like they were special ordered to coordinate with your house!

I have many coleus, will try some shaping.
Love your railings! I can't wait to see your pots planted in your back yard and the finishing touches that you are planning. Your videos always inspire & cheer me up. Thanks so much.
I'm wondering why the railings are so high?. I guess I had pictured railings about waist high.
Railings look stunning and the pots are beautiful. Leah is adorable, hope she has fun with her baby topiary.
Everything looks fabulous Linda! Have a great week! 💚💚💚
I would have never thought about a coleus topiary! I’m intrigued!
Hi everyone 😊 I just adore your comraderie, information and style. Thank yiu for helping me put a little spring in my step everyday.

You have inspired me to start doing topiary.
I've been waiting on topiary time! I have been grow-lighting a few in my basement over winter.(JFF..just for fun). Trying to do double balls.
Always Deadhead for more foliage growth!

Hello! Both railings front and back are spot on! Love it.... Also I love the coleous for it's foliage the flowers makes it look unkept to me.

I love all of the railings. I worried about you and hubs on the back stairs.
Hi from Annie you look nice in the outfit, topiary is looking good. Can be bit tricky at times as you can trim it too much etc.The back looks great finally some railings for safety etc.. Will look good with painted pots and plants by the back door..
I received my own Myrtle topiary from Passiflora! Yay! Thank you for the info.
Spoke to soon, but love the back railing too! 💝
I loved when you got your front railing how it added so much to the front of your house. The back railing adds a whole different look & will be exciting to see those large pots overflowing with pretty plants.
Yes here in pensacola fl it’s definitely cooler than ok city.. amazing that is great video
I always remove the flowers on my coleus because I want the foliage to bush out. I do however keep the flowers on the Mona lavender plectranthus.

Railings look really good.❤
This is exciting!
I have started setting out my plaint today
That was a great video !! Thank you for sharing. 🌳
Linda, that boxwood on the doorknob side does not look dead to us. Just winter-bronzed. Will you plant it elsewhere, trim it up, & water it?
Yes
Anyone know where Linda finds the brown italian pottery? Thanks, Sharon
Where did you get the spray paint can attachment? That looks so much easier to use for my hands!
Every hardware store has them! Just ask next time you are there!
Purchased mine at Lowe’s in Columbia, SC.
I always cut off the blooms on coleus, I don’t think they match. I thought I was the only one who didn’t like the colors together.
Creating topiary requires bravery, you just have to go for it.
Linda, thank you, great video. Where might I find the brown pots?
The railings are beautiful! They really made a difference ascetically!
It is riveting information dang it, lol. Thank you
I think the railings look great. Anxious to see the back porch rails too.
I keep the flowers
Hi Linda, Can you tell me the name of your trim on your house? I have a little brick house that needs redoing! Thank you!
I have a question for you Linda. I have a juniper topiary but it got knocked off of a pedestal and fell and broke out part of one side. How would you deal with that to get it back in shape ?
❤❤❤
I absolutely love the new rallings!!!
Did you attach a sprayer on the spray paint? If so, what is it?
I know! I always get paint all over my hands!
Linda what is real name of the paint you refer to as “Cottage Grey” ? Thanks
Can you tell me where did you purchase the container you have your coffee sitting on? TY
I’ll have to look where my coffee is😆
@@LindaVater The item I am referring to is at the time stamp 12:52
Where can we buy these topiaries? Or where is the best place and what other plants can we make out of topiaries?
Linda - I found all of your videos that talk about that! Thank you!!❤️❤️
The back steps look just beautiful with the railings! Everything is looking so cohesive, Linda. I try not to sweat the small stuff too much either!! Whatever you create should be a reflection of you and how you want it to be. A garden is just that, ever evolving.
I have a small blue spruce. Can I make a temporary out of it?
I think my cranberry creek may not have survived the winter. Zone 6. Will wait and see.
I always remove the flowers on my coleus.
I am only concerned that you are getting paint all over the driveway. Or was that already there?
The railings look nice and safe. Just curious, why did it take so long to get them or were you just waiting til Spring?
Linda has said in earlier vids that the issues were vendors/supplies. It takes a long time to have things crafted so she's been on a kind of wait list for months. @@janereel1903 I got mine in three weeks but mine are simple. But still seems like a long time.
Linda, I love your new railings, but if you painted them the grey color on your house, it may soften the look!
💚
😊
Love the railings!!!! Believe me you will need them. We added a railing to our front porch as I need it!! Looks great!
