Don't you just LOVE auto-generated text. When Eddie said "You've been Knighted?" Captions said : "You've been IGNITED" !!! I'm sure Peter would have appreciated that.
He's such a brilliant mimic amongst so many other skills. Not to mention a brilliant mind.
I think he'd been asked many times why he didn't go into politics and I'm sure he responded diplomatically - mostly - but from these anecdotes it's clear he was wise enough to skirt around such cesspits.
What an insight into the character of those he describes. I've always thought if he hadn't chosen this career path he would have made an excellent Psychologist or some other form of 'Shrink', as he has such an acute eye for every micro nuance of human communication - verbal and non-verbal. Of course he'd have had far less FUN! A Brilliant man and a sad loss to the world when he left us - but what a magnificent contribution.

Once on a long drive someone came on the radio and I became entranced by the quality of his speech: intellectual, nuanced, profound and knowledgeable. I was astounded. I had always presumed Peter Ustinov to be nothing more than a comedic actor. That gift was not even the tip of the iceberg. No wonder he was befriended by influential people of East and West.

Writer, raconteur, producer, director, filmmaker, winner of Oscar's, Emmy and Golden Globes. A multilinguist described as a Renaissance man. An absolute pleasure to listen to his stories. An entertainer's entertainer!

Who on earth is having the mean-spirited ignorance to press the "don't like" button in view of this outstanding man?

Amazing. When introducing Bach, he switches to a satirical but fitting East German accent and starts talking German. Shortly afterwards, he continues to talk English with the same dialect and then (when mentioning the city where the orchestra performing it comes from - which is in West Germany), he switches to High standard German. Pure genius.

Thank you for publishing this video, what an absolute legend Peter Ustinov was! A genius. They don't make people like that anymore.
Too bad the end is cut, but well, unfortunately not too many tapes or recordings survive from that era.

I kinda resented him in the commentary for "Spartacus", because it was the first time I had seen or heard of him in "affecting" the script, but I guess even the director and producer were so awestruck by the presence of these legends, that they got a lot of leeway in changing their speaking parts. But I love his voice. Very witty and funny!

Must be before Christmas 1991, since there is USSR.
Yakovlev fell out of power in July 1990.
Plus Saddam Hussein was in power.
    So it's probably 1990.

18:52 I find it mildly interesting that, that little bit of melody sounds just like the main theme from Jurassic Park. Maybe just shy of a year before the film's release.

First of all, this, above all doubt, cements, Sir Peter Ustinov's briliance... even in the claws of such an utterly pointless host... (im danish... so i know ALL TOO WELL who Eddie Skoller is) and despite the script-bound and completely unimaginative idiocy, Sir Ustinov is able to make this show worth while... (no thanks to the host... the utter and completely talentless "clown" of a host)

WOW! Skoller is about as far-removed from a Dick Cavett as a viable talk show interviewer, as is humanly possible! I think it's an insult to one w/the dignity & immensely-deserved stature of Mr. Ustinov to be so poorly represented as his guest! Perhaps Skoller was intimidated by Mr. Ustinov's reputation & presence...or he was just unprepared. Whichever it was, it felt quite awkward to watch.
