I have been keeping an eye on the situation and his letters, it seems like he is in some form of Messianic Psychosis, which makes sense since the only entertainment probably available to him is the bible, It could also be him trying to look insane to get an insanity plea, its hard to tell with just the letters to go on. If my demon theory is correct, it probably left long ago, we are just seeing the shattered remains of his consciousness it left behind.
